Former Stoke manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Southampton's two wide players will tuck right inside the pitch, leaving the space for both full-backs to push on.

City will have to watch that they don't get outnumbered in midfield and that those balls over the top don't allow Southampton to get in.

  5. Starting to see the real Jack Grealish?published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Slow start. Certainly didn't see the best of him but in the last four or five weeks I feel we are starting to see more of the Jack Grealish we saw at Aston Villa.

He is starting to forget they have paid £100m for him. I think it has taken him time to believe he belongs in that Manchester City squad with all the superstars and the expectation there.

  6. 'Southampton always a tough opponent'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

Southampton v Man City (15:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Sport: "Traditional competition and we want to reach the semi-final, as always we try to do that."

On what changes will bring: "The quality they have, they know who they are, football is not copy and paste. Every player has their own quality and that's so important against teams like Southampton."

What to expect from Southampton: "Quite similar to other times we have played them - organised, aggressive, good in set pieces and runs in behind, well structured. They defend the space of the ball not the man, tough opponent and always have been when we've played them."

  7. 'Saints have hit the buffers'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

Southampton v Man City (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Southampton have given Manchester City a good game twice already this season - drawing home and away in the league - but Saints have hit the buffers a little bit recently.

Three successive defeats, to Aston Villa, Newcastle and Watford, mean they will not come into this game with the same confidence they had earlier in the year.

City have got plenty to think about too, although I don't think their draw at Crystal Palace on Monday was a terrible result, it's really only made to look bad because Liverpool keep on winning.

Still, I was a bit surprised Pep Guardiola didn't make any attacking substitutions to try and change that game as it went on - instead, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus were left on the bench.

When you look at how Klopp has been using his bench to make an impact on tight matches, and give the opposition something different to think about, it seemed an odd decision by Pep.

    Prediction: 0-2

Perfect conditions on the south coast. Glorious sunshine and an expectant crowd at St. Mary's for Southampton against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.

And a loud rendition of "When The Saints Go Marching In" from a brass bans outside the stadium before kick-off to get Southampton fans in the mood.

  9. 'A good challenge for us'published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

Southampton v Man City (15:00 GMT)

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is a good chance for the club to win something big and to win something big you have to beat big teams. A good challenge for us.

"Pep will find solutions and we will have to find answers for the solutions he has found. This is what football is about.

"We can play better than the last three games. We are positive we can do it."

Goalscorer Marc Guehi: "Really enjoying it - it's fantastic. I've settled in really well, credit to everyone at Palace for making me feel welcome. I just really hope we can continue this form.

"It was a nervy start from myself but we responded well to make sure we didn't concede a goal in that top period and we had a good performance after that."

Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Everton were front-footed in the first 15 minutes, they pressed and then they just fell apart. At half-time, being 2-0 down, the next goal is the most important one and all their heads were down and nothing galvanised them.

Throughout the game there were massive holes and Frank Lampard is trying to plug gaps and chop and change and they weren't cohesive. You can see that they don't believe, there's no confidence in this side at all. It is worrying.

All credit to Crystal Palace, a brilliant performance and it could've been a lot more than four.

Unbelievable performance, great defensive display with a clean sheet and Jack Butland had very little to do. And the front four were magnificent, completely opened Everton up. A brilliant performance and it was just effortless.

The first 20 minutes they had a bit of an issue but they solved it and then never looked back.
