    Lauren Hemp (47 mins)

    What a goal!

City earn a corner which is whipped in to the near post and Lauren Hemp produces a sublime piece of skill to connect with what I can only describe as a backheel volley.

Think Gianfranco Zola in his prime. Superb.

That's her second goal of the game and tough to see a way back for Everton now.

  7. Double dreams for Chelseapublished at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

Chelsea v Birmingham City (14:00 GMT)

Emma Hayes' Chelsea achieved the league and cup double last season - and they have a shot at repeating that feat this term.

Two points behind Arsenal with a game in hand in the Women's Super League title race, they will be heavy favourites to reach the FA Cup semi-finals today at home to the top-flight's bottom side Birmingham.

City have won only one league this season - but a word of warning to Chelsea fans expecting a stroll: that win came against table-topping Arsenal.

It's been a torrid season for Birmingham, losing 15 of 17 league games and virtually doomed to relegation, but a cup run has at least provided some respite.

Right, only half an hour until today's other quarter-final kicks off so let's focus on that for a couple of minutes while Ipswich, West Ham, Manchester City and Everton are enjoying half-time refreshments...

Manchester City have won the FA Cup in three of the past five seasons and boss Gareth Taylor believes the competition might have become more special in the women's game than in the men's.

Taylor, who reached the semi-finals as a player with Sheffield United, lifted his first Women's FA Cup as a manager in 2020 when City beat today's opponents Everton in the final.

"Sometimes with the revenue and everything else – particularly in the men’s game – that’s associated with the Premier League, sometimes the FA Cup takes a ‘second best’ place," said Taylor.

"Having the [final] at Wembley for the women is huge and that hasn’t always been the case. That’s a certainty now. The competition prize money is going up next season too with a significant step up.

"It all points to us being able to retain that kind of romantic side of the FA Cup and the importance of it. I think it’s key.”

Ipswich, to their credit, really giving West Ham's defenders no breathing space but the Hammers' back-line has been excellent in possession. No mistakes football so far from them.

Three minutes to be added on after a couple of Ipswich injuries during this first half.

It had to be that first-time finish - she didn't have that much time.

Evans started it and finishes off a well-worked move.

Quick, good quality and really puts Ipswich on the back foot.
