    Man City 0-0 Watford

Ismaila Sarr is in behind Oleksandr Zinchenko on the right but he's miles offside and the flag does go up.

He's stayed down injured afterwards though. Has he rolled his ankle or is it his calf?

Milot Rashica gets away down the left for the home side but his low cross into the box is poor and easily cleared by Newcastle.

If Norwich are going to somehow scrape their way to safety, you have to think a win here is vital. It would still be a mountain to climb, but anything but three points and it is surely the Championship next season.

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a crucial game for us after two-and-a-half days to recover from a big performance and result at Stamford Bridge.

"We wanted to win again and we knew how important our fans would be. They really made it happen with the energy they played with and the spirit they have in the team.

"We wanted to start really fast and make sure we scored first and get the people behind us.

"The last 15 minutes of the first half and first 15 minutes of the second we didn't control the game and we need some luck. We had Aaron make some important saves and they missed a penalty, which is rare for the quality they have.

"We will learn from that but after that the response of the team was magnificent.

"You can't expect to win every match as that is only afforded to one or two teams in the league. We have to earn our right to win games and need a bit of luck, and today we had it."

On Xhaka's goal: "A huge moment. I wouldn't write that story that Granit was going to score that goal. But he took the initiative and had the courage to play football."

The sun's been out in Manchester today but that doesn't mean it's been warm (obviously). A stiff breeze around Etihad Stadium has made sure of that, and it was trying to rain earlier too.

Still, a rare sighting of the golden orb in the sky clearly excited some fans coming to Etihad Stadium today, and rather than a big coat or little coat dilemma, many of the City fans in front of me have gone for no coat at all.

Some are even in shorts, and they are clearly regretting that decision already. They will just be hoping the unpredictable weather does not mean we get an unexpected result.

  11. 'Top four is gone'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick: "I think we showed an improved performance but in the end a disappointing result. I think we bounced back well from the early goal and had numerous chances in both halves to score more goals.

"I thought the weak part of our performance today was we didn't defend well inside and around our box. I felt there were three very unlucky VAR decisions. For me the Arsenal third was clearly offside. The second of Cristiano was not offside. We were not very happy with the VAR decisions today. An improved display but a disappointing result."

On the missed penalty: "It would have helped us a lot of that had been the equaliser and probably would have changed the whole game. In the end, very unlucky for us."

What would Erik ten Hag be thinking: "There is a lot of work for sure. We knew that before the game. We showed what football we can play. Although we had to deal with the two early goals we still showed the attitude. There is nothing about the attitude of the players we should fault today."

Is the top four gone now? "Pretty sure. For me even before the game it was not very likely but after today's result it is gone yes."

Pep Guardiola has praised Watford manager Roy Hodgson and says it's "not true" that he did not speak with him after Crystal Palace won at Etihad Stadium.

Hodgson said on Thursday that Guardiola "would probably never speak to me again" if the Hornets pulled off a shock victory and the City boss is wary of their threat.

"After games, I speak to managers, I invite them for a glass of wine," said Guardiola. "If he beats me, we celebrate. Why should we not be friends?

"You are happier when you win, sad when you lose, so I'm sure it was a joke.

"He has incredible experience as a manager. We struggled to break down Palace when he was there.

"With their quality and their physicality upfront, we will have to be ourselves to get the three points."

Lots of Leicester fans outside the King Power are looking ahead to the Europa Conference League semi-final against Roma…they can’t wait for the home leg on Thursday and are talking about tickets and trips to Rome the week after.

But it’s a Midlands derby today and that’s all that matters for now. A bright but really breezy day in Leicester.

  14. Hodgson hopes to upset Guardiola againpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Man City v Watford (15:00 BST)

Watford manager Roy Hodgson wants to upset Pep Guardiola again and launch a late bid for Premier League survival in the most unlikely place.

The Hornets have lost their past 14 matches to Premier League leaders Manchester City and have not beaten them since 1989.

The former England boss did, however, mastermind a 3-2 win at Etihad Stadium in 2018 and also held City to a draw two years ago while in charge of Crystal Palace.

Last weekend’s late defeat at home to Brentford left his side seven points from safety with six games left.

“What we’re going to do is try to make ourselves unpopular,” said the former Liverpool manager.

“If we want to make ourselves popular with Pep, the City crowd and everyone else, we go hell for leather to try to win the game and match them at their own game.

“At least 99% of people, certainly those who work in football, know that is a recipe for disaster. We need to make life as difficult for them as we possibly can.

"Pep didn’t speak to me for a long while after Palace managed to steal a win up there and if we get a win this time, he will probably never speak to me again!”

    FT: Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaks to BT Sport: "A big performance in a game I think had everything. Moments where we showed real quality, a game where we had to suffer, a game where there were moments where we were a bit lost and lacking energy, a game where we were really efficient in the boxes, a game where we had luck when we needed it. Overall I am extremely happy."

On Nuno Tavares scoring: "The way he played as well. He had difficulties in the second half a bit but we helped him with a change of shape. They are really young. You can sense it at some stages in games that we have to make other decisions."

On Saka's fitness: "We had four or five with difficulties to make the team before. He was one, White was one, Granit had an eye issue, Eddie hasn't played many minutes. The boys are doing everything they can to be on the field and I feel lucky."

On the Champions League race: "I said this is going to be a rollercoaster. The winning and losing in this league is small margins. Today things went our way and we are really happy."

  17. A happy hunting ground for Hodgsonpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Man City v Watford (15:00 BST)

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

We already know Watford’s record here isn’t too hot, but they do have an ace up their sleeve.

I’m talking about Hornets boss Roy Hodgson. Not many opposition managers can say Etihad Stadium is a happy hunting ground, but Roy can… the only English ground he's got a better record at is St James' Park.

He has won here three times in all, most recently when Andros Townsend scored a wonder-goal as Crystal Palace left with the points in 2018.

Given Watford’s current plight, however, Roy has probably been channelling memories of Fulham’s famous victory here in April 2008.

Hodgson’s side were 2-0 down at half-time and knew they were relegated if they lost. Cue a stunning second-half comeback and a 3-2 win, that ultimately kept the Cottagers up. Watford could definitely do with some more of that magic today...

Newcastle won their first Premier League game at Carrow Road 2-1 in January 1994 but are winless in their subsequent seven top-flight visits to Carrow Road (D2, L5).

Norwich are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games against the Magpies (W2, D2).

They are looking to win consecutive Premier League home matches for the first time since August 2019, when the second of those victories came against Newcastle.

Beautiful day here at the Etihad. This time of year doesmake me laugh though in terms of what the fans wear. Some are in bobble hats and gloves, and some are in shorts!

There's a sense of expectation rather than nervousness amongst the City fans, against a Watford team they should beat comfortably.

Supporters behind me have been enjoying watching Manchester United lose at Arsenal.

TheTurboBear: Appointing Rangnick was a mistake. In a losing situation he sub's on players who are leaving in the summer and have no desire in them. And in the press conferences you get the feeling he absolutely doesn't care and has given up.
