    FT: Hearts 2-1 Hibs

More from Hearts manager Robbie Neilson, who tells BBC Sportsound: "Credit to our players for managing to get through it, and credit to Hibs for battling really well, came back from two goals down, threatened even with 10 men, but that's a derby. Thankfully we came out on top.

"I played with Craig Gordon 20 years ago and he's matured unbelievable. He's now a leader of the group, He should be in the running for player of the year.

"We're guaranteed group stage football in Europe. It gives us money to invest. We won't go crazy, but taking that next step to allow us to do well in Europe but transition us into getting into Europe the year after and the year after and trying to grow this club."

Defender Craig Halkett is set to go to hospital for a scan, but Neilson says he is hopeful he will be fir the Scottish Cup final on 21 May.

  3. 'We created more than enough' - Maloneypublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Hibs

Hibernian head coach Shaun Maloney tells BBC Scotland: “I'm extremely disappointed, gutted really for the players and the support.

"I think the performance was brilliant really, even with going 2-0, with the way we were playing at times it was really good.

"With 10 men, we still looked like the team that looked most likely to score, I’m incredibly proud but disappointed the performance didn't match the result. It’s by far the best performance since I’ve been here.

"We created more than enough in terms of dangerous opportunities, but we didn't defend the set-play or the counter-attack, I was really with how we played in that attacking area.

"We have to get to a point where we’re more clinical and until we get there will are going to feel more hurt than we are just now

"What I need to instil over the next four or five games, months, seasons - whatever it may be - is a level of performance, desire and physicality that we showed today.

"We need to instil that culture again and make sure we never feel like this again, particularly next season.

  5. 'Hearts showed character'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Hibs

Hearts midfielder Andy Halliday tells BBC Scotland: "I'm just delighted for the boys, we just showed so much character in the second half.

"The first goal is what we worked on during the week, we worked on pressing high at goal kicks, and we managed nick it and big Ellis [Simms] who I thought was absolutely outstanding all day, what a strike that was. The second was a really well worked routine but you still need to fire it into the top corner.

"It's one hurdle to go, we know we're going to be facing a top side whoever wins the game tomorrow, but we've put ourselves right in with a chance."

  6. 'We deserve to go through' - Neilsonpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Hibs

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson tells BBC Scotland: “It was a tough game, credit to both sets of players, it was a real nailbiter until the end.

"We did well to get the second then we made an error to let them back in, but the players did well to hang in and we deserve to go through.

"There were a lot of strong tackles, a lot of opportunities, thankfully we came out on top.

“We had a number of chances, it’s just in those final moments we didn't take some of them, we’re glad to have taken two of them but on another day we could have had more.

“Now it will be about reinvesting the money we’re guaranteed with the European football today’s result has guaranteed.

On Craig Gordon's pivotal save a 2-1, he jokingly commented: "I thought it was bog-standard from Craig. I'd have expected him to catch it.

“I’d expect him to be in the running for player of the year in Scotland. The players are 100% behind him because he’s producing great saves behind them."

The Hibs end emptied out very quickly as Hearts fans rejoiced with a rendition of 'It's magic you know' and a few other unrepeatable chants.

It wasn't exactly plain sailing, with Hibs battling for every inch of turf, even after Joe Newell's foolish dismissal.

Two sensational strikes set up another Hampden date for Hearts, who last lifted the old trophy in 2012 after thrashing their Edinburgh rivals in the final.

It was much closer this time, but once again it's the maroon half of Edinburgh partying at Hampden.

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Hibs

Hearts' Stephen Kingsley tells BBC Scotland: "We're delighted. It was a tough game and we knew that would be the case after last weekend.

"To be fair, I don't think we played at our best but we got the two early goals and then our lapse in concentration to concede made it interesting.

"We got the win in the end and that's all that matters."

On his stunning goal from a free-kick routine, he added: "It's something we'd worked on, more on the other side with Barrie [McKay], but I knew I'd have a wee chance if it was on that side.

"We had a wee chat before it and thankfully it went in."

  11. Hearts in Europe until at least Novemberpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    FT: Hearts 2-1 Hibs

With the cup final place comes another prize for Hearts.

They are guaranteed a Europa League spot whatever happens in the final, having already secured third place.

They will be parachuted into the Europa League play-off spot. Win, and it's Europa League group stage football. Lose, and it's the Europa Conference League group stage.

Either way, after a long wait for a return to Europe, Hearts are guaranteed a minimum of eight games next season.

It also means fourth and fifth place in the Scottish Premiership will now be Europa Conference League qualifying spots, with Dundee United, Ross County and Motherwell fighting it out over those two places.

  12. FULL-TIME Heart of Midlothian 2-1 Hibernianpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

Hearts are into the Scottish Cup final after yet another Hampden triumph over their Edinburgh rivals Hibs.

Ellis Simms thumped them into the lead and Stephen Kingsley's wonderful finish made it two.

But Hibs hit back through Chris Cadden, and will feel they dominated most of the remainer of the game, but the red card to Joe Newell for a second booking hurt their chances and they could not find an equaliser.
