    Hearts 2-1 Hibs

    Colin Moffat
    BBC Scotland at Hampden

Two wonderful strikes had Hearts fans dreaming of another Hampden derby mauling like the ones dished out in 2006 and 2012.

However, that swift reply from Chris Cadden keeps the tie alive, although Hibs don't score many.

Hibs have now managed a goal in each of their last four outings, but since the turn of the year they have only managed two goals or more on four occasions.

Robbie Neilson will be absolutely furious. Hearts need to deal with this. It's terrible play by Toby Sibbick. He is the one Hearts player that hasn't been up to speed for me in this match.

That all comes from the running and tenacity of Lewis Stevenson. Then he shows great composure to pick out the initial ball across.

Hibs fans have witnessed this movie before. From 2006 to 2012 to 2020.

They trail Hearts at Hampden. But can they do what they didn't do on those occasions and turn it around?

But they have a free-kick to defend as Stephen Kingsley stands over it...

Wow! You knew it was coming, you could feel it. Ellis Simms has been causing problems since the start of the game with the way that he's been getting in behind. What a strike.

    Ellis Simms

Hearts take the lead in spectacular style.

Ellis Simms, on loan from Everton, produces a cup cracker.

He finds a yard of space outside the box and bullets it past goalkeeper Matt Macey.

  10. 'Hibs hungry to win scraps'published at 12:29 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Hearts 0-0 Hibs

    Colin Moffat
    BBC Scotland at Hampden

Hibs were a soft touch in last weekend's derby defeat, fading meekly in the second half after a bright start.

The men in green are certainly fired up for this one, challenging for any loose balls like Rose Street seagulls after a discarded fish supper.

Hearts look more composed in possession, but Liam Boyce let the side down with that dreadful sclaffed cross.

    Hearts 0-0 Hibs

    Hibs appeal for a penalty.

Ewan Henderson does well down the left, plays a ball into the middle which bounces up and hits the arm of Stephen Kingsley inside the box.

But the replay shows his arms was right by his side.

    Hearts 0-0 Hibs

Liam Boyce beats the offside trap and has two maroon shirts to aims for, with Ellis Simms screaming for a pass on the edge of the six-yard box.

But Boyce makes a mess of it and it's into the side netting.

    Hearts 0-0 Hibs

Both sides are struggling to settle into the game.

Jake Doyle-Hayes plays a long diagonal ball that has far too much on it for his Hibs team-maters to get onto.

Hearts' Ellis Simms steals the ball off a defender but can only knock it harmlessly towards goalkeeper Matt Macey.

    Hearts 0-0 Hibs

The first chance goes the way of Hibernian. Ewan Henderson floats in a free-kick, and a header is flicked towards goal though it is a simply enough save for Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

They scored early at Tynecastle last week and are on the front foot from the start again.

  17. Can Hibs save their season at Hampden?published at 12:14 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Hearts v Hibs (12:15)

    Colin Moffat
    BBC Scotland at Hampden

A conspicuously large empty section in the Hibs end contrasts with the opposite side of the national stadium, which is bursting at the seams.

A reflection of how their respective seasons have gone...

Both sets of fans are in fine voice though, rivalling the ludicrously loud PA system.

Hibs are big underdogs today, while Hearts are sitting pretty in the league and go with a settled side.

Can Shaun Maloney's changes and a more experienced and robust line-up upset the odds and rescue what has been a miserable season for the Easter Road side?

  18. 'Porteous coming back is a huge boost for Hibs'published at 12:13 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Hearts v Hibs (12:15)

Hibernian manager Sean Maloney tells BBC Scotland: "Some of the team changes were enforced by injuries. Josh Doig has done well to make the bench and the other ones were about how the game went last week, particularly with the number nine and James Scott.

"Ryan Porteous even when out of position is good on the ball, he's a good defender and he has the personality for these big games it's a big boost to have him back.

"For Porteous he needs to still show the same aggression but a level of calmness has to be present throughout his performance."

  20. Hearts to outnumber Hibspublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 16 April 2022

    Hearts v Hibs (12:15)

Hearts have sold out their 20,000 allocation, and had extra tickets on sale this week.

With third place already secured, a handsome derby victory last week, and previous wins at Hampden over Hibs to gloat over, it's little surprise the maroon half of Edinburgh are looking forward to this one.

Not so much Hibs. Struggling in the league, reports are they've sold just over 15,000 tickets, with a good five sections of the east stand set to be empty this afternoon.

Will those Hibs fans who have stayed away regret it if their team pull off a result this afternoon?
