Bristol Rovers boss Joey Barton has led the club back to League One at the first attempt in the most dramatic circumstances

We're shutting up shop after what has been an absolutely frantic end to the regular season in the EFL.

First, Sheffield United and Luton both secured the wins they needed to seal their spots in the Championship play-offs.

And then, well, then things went really crazy.

Bristol Rovers won promotion to League One on goals scored after hammering relegated Scunthorpe 7-0 to leave Northampton Town in the play-offs despite the fact they had started the day in third and WON 3-1 at Barrow.

The Cobblers join Port Vale, Swindon and Mansfield in the play-offs.

Keep across the site for more reaction from this mad day.

We'll be back with more live text action tomorrow when MK Dons host Wycombe in the second leg of their League One play-off semi-final, looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit.

Thanks for your company today and hope you can join us then.

    Cheers!

Dramatic end to League Two title race

What an end to an incredible season! Forest Green Rovers snatching the title on the last day despite drawing away at Mansfield.

But these players and fans won't care how they've done it, just that they HAVE done it!

What a day for the club.

When that seventh goal went in I really couldn't believe it, then we had that stoppage because of fans coming on the pitch and then we came and played out whatever time was remaining, nothing happening.

Now look at it, you can hardly see the grass in one end of the pitch. So many fans out there, so many blue flares being let off. Joyous scenes from the Rovers supports, an incredible afternoon.

Who on earth thought they would score seven goals and they would get promoted automatically?

Especially after the first half of the season as well when Joey Barton promised promotion and I think we'd lost by some stupid score down at Exeter.

Just incredible scenes, I don't think those players are going to get to the dressing room for a long time yet.

When I checked the score before we got in the car, Northampton were 3-0 and we were 2-0. It looked like an impossible pipe dream. I cannot believe what I’ve just seen.

Some day indeed for Bristol Rovers fans. They were in the top three this season for about 10 minutes. The last 10 minutes of the season.

What a way for Scunthorpe to bow out of the EFL after 72 years.

A few people are questioning the young side that Iron boss Keith Hill put out today but they were relegated weeks ago and he's been playing the younger players for some time now.

Sometimes in life you've just got to be there, you've got to see it. This is quite exceptional at the Mem. Thousands of supporters on the pitch some being held on people's shoulders with blue flares going off.

Absolutely extraordinary scenes here at the Memorial Stadium.

Shades of deja vu six years ago with Dagenham & Redbridge when Lee Brown scored that crucial, crucial goal to take Rovers up to League One. They've done it again, 7-0 Rovers have won to go back to League One, not on goal difference but on goals scored.

Promoted: Exeter City and Bristol Rovers

Play-offs: Northampton Town, Port Vale, Swindon and Mansfield Town.

    Relegated: Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe.

    Football, gotta love it.

What a remarkable, unbelievable, crazy match we've had this afternoon. There's unexpected results and then there's this.

Bristol Rovers have secured automatic promotion to League One on the final day of the season, moving above Northampton into third place for the first time on the only day that it mattered.

An Oliver Lobley own goal kicked off the goal-fest, before Connor Taylor, Aaron Collins, Anthony Evans and Elliot Anderson completed the rout.

That's one match that's going to go down in the Bristol Rovers history books.

In case you wondered how much Bristol Rovers have dominated today.... they're currently up to 34 shots at goal, 14 of which were on target.

Joey Barton is pacing around the technical area waiting for the second the referee blows the whistle for full-time.

What a ridiculous afternoon this has turned out to be.

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford

Watford have been relegated from the Premier League!

They follow Norwich back to the Championship at the first hurdle, having won promotion to the top tier last season.

Wilfried Zaha's first-half penalty was enough to consign the Hornets to relegation with three games left to play.

What will the future hold for the Hertfordshire club? Roy Hodgson has already announced he will not continue as manager. It will be another summer of change ahead...

We've finally, finally got the players back on the pitch as the referee gets it up and running again at the Mem.

The security has been significantly bolstered around the stands but the referee has suggested that if fans return to the pitch again the game will be abandoned.
