    Joe Thompson
Former Rochdale and Tranmere midfielder on Squad Goals

That's his 11th goal of the season so it's a good return for him. Paul Heckingbottom has to take a lot of credit for that because he's given him the opportunity and he's repaid it.

    Morgan Gibbs-White (10 mins)

The goal the home fans desperately wanted!

Morgan Gibbs-White gives Sheffield United the lead.

The Wolves loanee heads past Paolo Gazzaniga from Oli Norwood's cross.

Rather curious attempted save from the Fulham keeper it has to be said.

Blades fans wont care. They're in the play-offs if it stays like this.

    Luton 0-0 Reading

    Luton mean business today.

Former Motherwell man Allan Campbell gets his head on a cross into the area but it's straight at Orjan Nyland in the Reading goal.

Victory for the Hatters will confirm their place in the play-offs.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Millwall

The only outcome for Millwall today if they want to keep themselves in contention for a play-off place is a win.

They've already had two early free-kicks, giving them an chance to put the ball into the box and test Bournemouth. So far, however, the Cherries have held firm.

  5. Postpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    Huddersfield Town 0-0 Bristol City

There's a bit of an end-of-season vibe at the John Smith Stadium this opening few minutes. Huddersfield, already assured of a spot in the play-offs, are keeping possession well with most of the action coming around midfield.

You'd imagine the aim for Huddersfield today will be to not get any injuries, with the play-offs to come.

The Blades will hope they are joining the Whites in the top tier next season.

  9. Aadam's Championship game of the daypublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    Sheff Utd v Fulham

A clash against the stand-out side of the Championship season is probably the last thing you’d want going into the last weekend of the league when you need a result to secure your place in the play-offs.

But for Sheffield United, welcoming the champions Fulham may well be a blessing in disguise. The Cottagers sealed the title in emphatic style on Monday night when they hammered Luton 7-0, which incidentally strengthened the Blades’ play-off hopes.

And by all accounts, Fulham have enjoyed a well-deserved few days off.

This match-up was a Premier League fixture last season and starting with today, the Blades know they are three games away from an instant return to the top flight. They’ll take confidence from the fact they beat the visitors earlier this season at Craven Cottage.

A win would book their place in the play-offs with a home tie under the Friday night lights at Bramall Lane. But anything else will have them twitching. A draw will have United looking across the Pennines to Deepdale to see the Middlesbrough score at Preston North End while defeat will bring Millwall into the mix.

  10. Joe's Championship game of the daypublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    Luton v Reading

    Joe Thompson
Former Rochdale and Tranmere midfielder on Squad Goals

Who would have though it - the Hatters are in dream land. Nathan Jones' men are one game away from securing a play-off place. They'll have no doubt chalked off their 7-0 hammering by Fulham and will be ready to go again. They can't rest on their laurels though as Middlesbrough are hot on their heels hoping they fall at the final hurdle. A win for Luton will guarantee their place in the play-offs and a chance at the Premier League.

Reading come to Kenilworth Road knowing they're safe in the Championship for another season. Paul Ince's side have lost their last two and the Guvnor's future is still in doubt. He'll be hoping his side can finish the season strong and then he can make a decision on his own future knowing he holds all the cards.

    Can Luton do the unthinkable?

    Bournemouh v Millwall

    Sanny Rudravajhala
    Presenter, Squad Goals

I feel like Mystic Meg trying to predict where Millwall will finish this season, but could the stars align for the Lions? Before the midweek games it looked unlikely. But couple Luton’s goal-difference-halving 7-0 defeat at Fulham, with Bournemouth managing to achieve automatic promotion early, and it could be clear skies for Gary Rowett’s side.

Bournemouth captain Lloyd Kelly wouldn’t be drawn into how hard they partied after beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Tuesday, but the fans will still be celebrating at Dean Court and Scott Parker may choose to rotate his side and allow fringe players to get in on the festivities.

Millwall haven’t been in the play-off positions all season but it’s where you are after matchday 46 that counts and with only two defeats in their last 16 games, Lady Luck is clearly on their side.

Benik Afobe’s goals are coming at just the right time with four in his last eight appearances and 13 for the season. Add to that the return from injury of Jed Wallace, who has scored or assisted 18 for the Lions and Leo could indeed be coming into view this evening.

It’s must-win for Millwall and even then, they need to hope for favourable score lines from Luton, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough but if it does happen, I’ll be buying a lottery ticket later.

  14. Pressure offpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

All games kick off at 12:30 BST

While four teams have their eyes on the prize of a play-off spot in the Championship today, plenty will be playing for pride on the final day of the league season.

Relegated Barnsley, Derby and Peterborough take on West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff and Blackpool respectively.

Blackburn, who just missed out on the final-day play-off scrap, travel to St Andrew's to take on Birmingham, while Mark Warburton takes charge of his final QPR match against Swansea.

The Hoops were fifth at the beginning of March but defeat against the Swans would be their 10th in their last 13 games and could see them finish as low as 16th if results go against them.

Stoke currently sit 13th in the table but could finish as high as 10th if they win at home against Coventry and other results go their way.

Will these Boro fans be feeling as jubilant as tis at 15:00 BST?

Like the two sides above them, Middlesbrough and Millwall know what they have to do.

    WIN.

Anything other than away victories for these pair will mean Sheffield United and Luton will be in the play-offs regardless of their own results.

Bournemouth are giving a start to experienced Republic of Ireland international Robbie Brady, while Preston name Aston Villa loanee Cameron Archer in their starting XI.

  16. Win and inpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Sheff Utd v Fulham; Luton v Reading

In relative terms, it's pretty simple for Sheffield United and Luton today.

Win against Fulham and Reading respectively and they'll be in the play-offs regardless of other results.

Of course, these things never tend to be that simple do they?

Title winners Fulham have named Championship record-goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic in their XI but, as to be expected, they've made some changes from the side that hammered Luton 7-0 on Monday.

Reading secured their survival at this level some weeks ago but interim boss Paul Ince doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would let his team rest on their laurels.

It's the final day of the regular season in both the Championship and League Two today.

We start off with the conclusion of the second tier, where most things have actually been resolved now (League Two is an ENTIRELY different matter but we'll get to that in due course...)

Fulham wrapped up the title on Monday and Bournemouth secured second spot with a win over promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, while Barnsley, Peterborough and Derby will all be in League One next season.

We know Forest and Huddersfield will be in the play-offs but as for who they'll be up against? Well, that's what we're about to find out with Sheffield United, Luton, Middlesbrough and Millwall battling for the final two spots.

    Let's get going.
