Brad: England 5 USA 0. You heard it here first, folks!

Dammo: Watching the match in a log cabin in Washington State, USA. Over here with American family and hoping for an England win. In for a spot of cabin fever! It's coming home.

Anon: I think it's important for England to win here as they'll most likely win the group and rest the main players vs Wales, which will give the subs much needed minutes against a side needing to win.

Matt Turner's second ball out is better, even under pressure from Harry Kane, who is moving just fine.

There were one or two blemishes against Iran for England and they will be looking to iron those out today.

USA were really high energy in the first half against Wales but that phased out in the second half. Can they keep it going for the whole game?

Looking at England and how they performed against Iran will give them immense confidence. The whole group need to start exactly how they did against Iran: start strong, start fast and have that belief. They will win tonight.

Dare I say, I’m expecting an England win! Would have preferred to see Foden in for Mount but agree with the rest of the team sheet.

Here in Maidstone, police have increased patrols after violent disorder following the Euros final defeat.

No-one’s worried here though - as the train pulled up to Maidstone East, one lone voice screamed "it’s coming home". Look at the hats - they believe!

    England

England manager Gareth Southgate speaking on ITV:

On selecting same team: "If I was one of those players I'd feel I'd earned the right to start tonight - we have great competition for places and people to come in and change things but I think we're right to go with the same team again."

On USA: "They put you under a lot of pressure in their build-up, they have an athletic midfield so it will be a different tempo to the other day and we have to try and find a way to play through them.

"We've got to be positive in the way that we play - this is a different test and the beauty of a World Cup is overcoming different challenges. We overcame that the other day and we're in a great place if we can win tonight so we'll see."

Solid anthem work from England. A punch of the air from Harry Maguire afterwards.

Whenever I hear the US national anthem at a sporting event I can't help but think of Frank Drebin pretending to be Enrico Palazzo.

Five different players (Bellingham, Saka, Sterling, Rashford and Grealish) scored for England against Iran; in only one previous World Cup tournament have they had more different scorers (6 in 2018). Nine players either scored or assisted for the Three Lions against Iran, the most for a team in a World Cup match since 1974 (Yugoslavia vs Zaire).

England had two players aged 21 or younger – Jude Bellingham (19) and Bukayo Saka (21) – score in a World Cup match for the first time when they beat Iran. No England player has ever scored in consecutive World Cup appearances when aged 21 or younger, with Michael Owen the youngest to do so aged 22 in 2002.

Following their 6-2 victory over Iran in their first match, England are looking to win their opening two games at the World Cup for a fourth time, also doing so in 1982, 2006 and 2018. Their second game at the 2018 edition saw them win 6-1 against Panama.

    England v USA (19:00 GMT)

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

In England, we've got a certain arrogance about we created football, we should be winning big tournaments, we have the best players, we have the biggest clubs but the Americans have come so far and you've got to give them credit for that.

Do I expect them to win today? No I don't because player for player, squad for squad, England are better than America but they've been non a journey and they've come this far. I think it's great that they're at this tournament.

But I do believe England will have too much for them today.

  19. Sutton's predictionpublished at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    England v USA (19:00 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

The United States are a high-intensity, high-pressing team and really aggressive with that… but, as we saw against Wales, they fade late on.

England will have too much for them - they know a lot of their players and they know they are better than them. There are some interesting head-to-heads, like Bukayo Saka going up against Antonee Robinson, who he gave a real going over when Arsenal played Fulham earlier in the season.

I don't see the US causing England many problems at all to be honest but l also don't think Gareth Southgate's men will put lots of goals past them just because they did that against Iran.

By the way, there is no way England should rest Harry Kane after his injury scare. We're not in a position to take any other nations lightly, especially in the second game of a tournament when we haven't got out of the group. Kane has to play.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

The last meeting came in 2018, with England winning 3-0 at Wembley. Jesse Lingard and Trent Alexander-Arnold were both on the scoresheet, as was one Callum Wilson, with hi9s only international goal to date.
