England 0-0 USA
Chance for the USA.
It is a tough one but a chance nonetheless. A cross from the right is met by Haji Wright, but it is slightly behind him and he can't generate the accuracy required. His header flies wide.

Bukayo Saka is already proving a handful in attacking areas for England, while Harry Kane has been happy to drop deep to receive the ball.
England 0-0 USA
Harry Kane is doing a fine job of protecting possession. He is dropping deep, holding the ball, waiting for pacey reinforcements before releasing.

England dominating the ball so far in the match. The battle of the chants seems to be between the England fans and ‘Harry Maguire’ and the American fans with ‘USA’

England fans are enjoying themselves.
Another really impressive start from Gareth Southgate's men as they dominate early on.
A chant of USA comes from the American fans but it is quickly drowned by strains of 'England'.

It just feels like England are just inching and inching themselves slowly further forward.

That was another really important block. This time Tyler Adams just stepped out at the wrong time.

Bukayo Saka is in again!
He gets down the right and crosses for Harry Kane to attempt a spectacular volley. He doesn't make contact, though, thanks to a US defender intervening.
It's all England right now.

Anon: That Harry Maguire seems absolute quality, be a great signing for Man United, just saying.

Play is focused in the USA half. England sensing a chance to strike.

England are stepping it up now.
Their latest attack is halted as Harry Kane fails to find Bukayo Saka on the right. Poor pass.

That is how you get through a press, fast and one-touch football. It was a brilliant block. You'd have put your house on Harry Kane scoring.

That looked like for all the world Harry Kane was going to score his first goal of the tournament.
England 0-0 USA
Harry Maguire turns into Diego Maradona for a second*. After a corner is headed out of the box to the right, the defender keeps the ball in and then weaves past a couple of challenges before poking a pass into the middle. It is cleared and then fired well over from range by Mason Mount.
*OK, that's maybe overselling a bit. Look, he beat a man alright.
England 0-0 USA
Oh, first big chance and it goes to England!
It is knife through butter initially as Bukayo Saka is found by Jude Bellingham, but after the pull back finds Harry Kane his low shot is defected wide.

Interestingly from England, they are looking to slow the game down because they know how quick and dangerous USA are on the counter and on the press.
England are being patient because USA have tweaked tactically and are matching up.
England 0-0 USA
The USA now starting to show a bit of zip in their play, shifting the ball around sharply in midfield. It doesn't go anywhere, though, a pass towards Antonee Robinson drifting out of play.

This is a much more patient approach from England. It is more respectful towards the USA, they really went for Iran from the start.

Kieran Trippier will have his hands full tonight because Christian Pulisic does like to go forward and then cut inside. It is not just him he'll have to deal with too, it'll be Antonee Robinson too.
England 0-0 USA
It's patient stuff from England early on. Getting a feel, taking charge, trying to ensure they're the protagonists in the game.
