We always wondered whether Gareth Bale could play three games in a row.

He is the man who has saved Wales so often. Perhaps we are going to get a glimpse of the future now.

Who is going to take the 75th-minute penalty to give Wales a 1-0 win now Bale is off?!

Brennan Johnson gives you more legs obviously.

We haven't been near England's box enough, so those legs should come in handy in this half.

A reminder of how things stand in Group B.

If it stays like this, USA will play Netherlands on Saturday at 15.00 BST in the round of 16.

And it will be England v Senegal on Sunday at 19.00 BST.

Gareth Bale, who offered very little in that first half, is off. Brennan Johnson is off.

The suspicion is that this might be a Bale injury.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2022

    Wales 0-0 England

All the onus is on Wales.

They have to come out and attack or they are gone. That will surely help England in their quest to unlock a previously packed defence.

We live in hope of a bit of drama.

We've had an interesting Welsh change at the break...

AMG: Don’t want to give him the kiss of death but Harry Maguire has been brilliant in an England shirt. Good to see after the horrible stick he receives at Manchester United.

James, London: It doesn't matter who you put on the pitch if your manager instructs them to play negatively with no intensity. Time to release the handbrake!

England are flat, boring and aren't showing anyone that they will go far. Harry Kane's shattered. Should be killing this game.

The expectation is England should dominate and score early in a game like this, but you have to give credit to Wales.

They have been very disciplined and are making it difficult for England.

That's going to spur Wales on and give them hope.

There are moments when Wales win the ball, they work super-hard to get it, and they need to know where the pass is going so they can get higher up the pitch.

We knew Wales would try and keep it tight the first half and then in the second half, they need to take a bit more risk.

But this is exactly what happened against the USA. England just moved the ball too slow. When they get into the offensive third, move the ball quicker because every time they have moved the ball quickly, they got those two chances.

Llanymynech near Oswestry, in Shropshire, is split down the middle by the English Welsh border.

Jason Farr, landlord of the Cross Keys Inn, says his pub is hosting the majority of the English fans and The Dolphin over the road in Wales is entertaining the Welsh fans.

The entire village has been “buzzing” for the past couple of months since the announcement of the game.

“It’s a proper community feel around the village,” he says.

“This is the first time for Wales being in the World Cup for obviously a number of years and being such a highly important game - it just adds that little bit extra to it.”

Dull first half, yes, but Chesney Hawkes is on the pitch and performing some new material!

Only joking, of course it's 'The One and Only'.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Ahman bin Ali Stadium

If people still wrote home they wouldn't get much material from that. Deadly dull for the most part with Marcus Rashford being thwarted by Danny Ward the big moment.

England will be happy with the scoreline while Wales will have the satisfaction of reaching half-time with the scoreline goalless.

    Other than that...

Wales have given England hardly anything, apart from that Marcus Rashford chance.

You have stifled their attack, now it's about go and attack yourselves.

    HT: Wales 0-0 England

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

England will be pleased but possession needs to be turned into goals. England's best moments have been when Wales have attacked them, being able to draw them out. Then England can hit them quickly, move the ball quickly and can get passed them. I'm sure that's what Gareth Southgate will be telling them.

    HT: Iran 0-1 USA

Here is the goal that means Wales now need to score four times to qualify.

It is 1-0 to the USA against Iran.

The Americans will be going through as runners-up to England if it stays like this.

  17. Postpublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2022

    HT: Wales 0-0 England

The England attackers brought into the starting XI today, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden, have had the most individual shots of any player so far - Rashford with three, Foden two.

England are trying hard but lack a bit of quality so far.

Rashford's first chance was the best of the game so far. By far. He was clean through but Danny Ward came to Wales' rescue.

England were expecting the long throw-in - so was I! Well worked and Joe Allen catches it well but it was always rising. Good moment for Wales, though.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+6 mins

    Wales 0-0 England

If the Welsh plan was not to concede in the first half and build on that, they've played this perfectly.

They've got some serious work to do as it stands, though. They need four unanswered goals to qualify.

England have dominated but lack a cutting edge.

Aside from the early chance for Marcus Rashford and an effort from Phil Foden, there hasn't been a lot to talk about from England going forward.

The longer the game goes on, the frustration kicks in.
