It's easy to be critical of Poland but the shape of Mexico sometimes pushes you back into a low block.

But when they've had the ball, that's when I've been disappointed with Poland.

They have no desire to press high, I think they can move up another 15-20 yards.

  2. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

Free-kick to Poland deep inside Mexico's half. A number of white shirts position themselves in the box awaiting the delivery. It's over-cooked. Poor.

  3. 'Lewandowski starved of the ball'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

It must be frustrating for Robert Lewandowski.

He's had one touch in Mexico's box - this doesn't happen to him at club level with the clubs he's played for. He's used to getting more touches of the ball.

He's completed three passes in the first half, he's been starved of the ball and he's having to feed off scraps.

  4. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

If both managers asked their players to up the tempo, it's gone in one ear and out of the other. It's slow and there's not a lot happening.

  5. 'A point a good result?'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is quite a defensive change when you look at it. Not sure whether Poland think that a point would be a good result and they are willing to take that.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

Poland have responded to a turgid 45 minutes by making a change.

Krystian Bielik is on for Nicola Zalewski, who took a knock at one stage.

  7. KICK-OFFpublished at 45 mins

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

Right lads. We need a goal, please. Back under way.

  8. Why so cagey?published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

Poland's one shot was the fewest they have ever had in a single half (excluding extra-time) of a World Cup match on record (since 1966).

  9. 'Where will Mexico's goals come from?'published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Montes and Moreno have been very good. Montes in particular has been very close to Lewandowski when there is a turnover in possession. I think Mexico will be happy with how they have played they have got some seriously exciting players in the wide areas but the big question mark is where their goals will come from.

  10. 'No team wants to grasp the chance'published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC One

It's too cagey, I think it's just lack of quality.

You're looking at the earlier result and you're thinking this is a chance - but it's like no team wants to grasp it.

When they're going forward, there's missed passes, a lack of quality in the whole game.

It opened up near the end but it's been one of the worst 45 minutes of the World Cup so far.

  11. 'Lewy no closer to first World Cup goal'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

On the flipside, you could throw a blanket over most of Poland's players with their number nine looking particularly isolated up top.

Penny for Robert Lewandowski's thoughts - he looks no closer to that elusive first World Cup goal.

  12. 'Lewandowski isolated by deep defending'published at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Pablo Zabaleta
Ex-West Ham and Argentina defender on BBC One

If you just keep defending so deep, it leaves Robert Lewandowski isolated up front and he's not the kind of player who will run in behind.

They need to come up the field higher and give him better balls.

  13. Postpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

Chances were scarce in the opening 45. This was one of the few highlights.

  14. 'Has anyone seen Lewy?'published at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport at Stadium 974, Qatar

It's not lived up to the hype or the atmosphere so far. Mexico have been the better team and have had more chances. Poland haven't recorded a single shot on target yet and Robert Lewandowski has had just one touch in the opposition box. We could do with a goal to spice things up!

  15. What formation are Mexico playing?published at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    HT: Mexico 0-0 Poland

Mexico won the midfield battle in the first half.

A glance at their average positions shows that their formation is looking a touch blunt though with number 20 Henry Martin in theory their frontman.

Raul Jimenez to come on in the second half and offer a focal point for the Mexicans?

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

Mexico look the more dangerous. They just need someone to stick it in the net.

  17. 'Nearly catches the keeper out'published at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2022

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC One

It's really good build-up play - we wondered if there was a foul there but the ball comes out to Sanchez and he nearly catches Szczesny out.

Taking control now, Mexico - there's only one team trying to win this at the moment.

I don't know whether it's the climate but Poland are stuck in first gear.

  18. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

Boooooooo. Just the two minutes of stoppage time.

  19. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

    Shot on target!

Jorge Sanchez lets fly from an angle and Wojciech Szczesny has to be alert.

    Corner to Mexico.

  20. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Mexico 0-0 Poland

Hirving Lozano is Mexico's biggest threat. He manages to beat his man again and whip in a cross but Jorge Sanchez is quickly surrounded by a sea of white shirts.
