  3. 'It has been a challenging season'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Chelsea v Leicester (20:00 BST)

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says: "Our plan was to finish the season as strongly as we could. It has been a challenging one with all the injuries but we're getting the guys back together and the aim is to finish strongly and build for next season.

"Youri Tielemans had a clash of knees at the weekend and he hasn't recovered from that. Hopefully he will be OK for the weekend. James Justin is ill so has not travelled and the other changes are just tactical.

"The top players always want to respond, Chelsea have been in two finals and just missed out on penalties. They played well at the weekend and the team Thomas [Tuchel] has picked is a strong one.

"We have to show a strong mentality when we defend and play with the confidence we have been doing when we're attacking."

    Frank LampardImage source, Getty Images

Frank Lampard said he wants to select "11 Evertonians" on Thursday, as he prepares his side for a crucial game against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

A win would secure Premier League football for another season and Lampard is demanding his players replicate the passion of the home crowd.

"I have to thank our fans for their impact on the team, particularly in recent weeks," he said. "I'm sure they will come with everything again - and maybe a bit more. We really appreciate that.

"Historically, this could be such a big night for us. The players have to turn up to play with the same passion and fight as those in the stadium.

"We need 11 Evertonians on the pitch."

Lampard wants his players to understand the magnitude of the situation and harness that pressure in a positive way.

"They have to tap into the occasion," he added. "It's a game that's really critical, but they can use the pressure in a good way and play with control on top of that.

"We're playing a game that we love, so we have to be up for those big-pressure moments.

    "Everyone has to be ready."

Frank Lampard wants his players to relish this.

It is a huge opportunity for them to go and get this side out of the trouble it’s been in.

It shouldn’t have been like this coming into the last weekend of the season.

  8. 'Less pressure than usual'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Chelsea v Leicester (20:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says: "Newcastle did us a huge favour and beat Arsenal to get us a top-four place for the Champions League, which is a huge target.

"You could feel it on the training ground and it feels there's less pressure than usual, but it shouldn't keep us from performing and it doesn't mean we can't be switched on and totally focused.

"We trust the guys, that's why there's not too many changes and that's why we have a strong line-up. Leicester have a good attacking team and a good coach."

  10. Tuchel 'proud' despite final defeatspublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Chelsea v Leicester (20:00 BST)

    ChelseaImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says the Blues' season should not be judged on their two cup final penalty shootout defeats by Liverpool.

In 2021-22, Tuchel's side added the Super Cup and Club World Cup to the Champions League title they won under the German boss last term. But a domestic trophy continues to elude Tuchel after Chelsea were beaten by the Reds in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals.

Tuchel said: "I refuse to judge the season by two penalty shootouts. If we had won those, it would have been maybe one of our most successful seasons ever with four titles. Losing two shootouts does not make it less impressive what effort the team put in and what success the team achieved to reach these two finals.

"That’s why I told the team, after the cup final, I'm proud of how we played these finals and how we went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the world.

"Hopefully we manage to come third so there has been progression. We have constantly been in the top three in the toughest league - we now compete with perhaps the two best teams to ever play in this league. To put it into perspective, there's no need to lose sleep after this season. But there's a lot of ambition in us that hasn't been satisfied."

  11. Rodgers praises 'Premier League icon' Vardypublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Chelsea v Leicester (20:00 BST)

    Jamie VardyImage source, Getty Images

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has described Jamie Vardy as a Premier League "icon" as the striker marks 10 years at the club.

Vardy, 35, joined from Fleetwood for £1m on 18 May 2012 and has scored 132 top-flight goals in 268 games. The former non-league player is 14th on the all-time Premier League goals list and scored 24 goals as Leicester won the Premier League title in 2015-16.

"I think he's a real icon of Leicester and of the league," said Rodgers.

Vardy made his name in the non-league game after being released by Sheffield Wednesday, joined Leicester when he was 25.

"I think his journey, coming into professional football at 25 and scoring his first Premier League goal at 27, to go on and score the goals he has and to have the impact he has had, he is such a unique player," added Rodgers.

"We've seen it before with other players like Ian Wright coming through and playing at the highest level. But Jamie's story, from playing FA Cup qualifiers to going on to win the FA Cup and win the Premier League, to playing in the Champions League, he really is a great of this football club but also the Premier League.

"You put him up there with the top strikers."

  12. 'Expecting a Chelsea reaction'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    Chelsea v Leicester (20:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Chelsea had some chances to win last weekend's FA Cup final but didn't take them. Losing a final on a penalty shoot-out is always hard to take, but it has happened to them twice this season now, after Liverpool did the same in the Carabao Cup.

I'm expecting a reaction to that disappointment here, though. Leicester always carry a threat when Jamie Vardy is fit and in form, but we know they have a weakness at the back - especially from set-pieces.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-1

  13. Head-to-headpublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 19 May 2022

    • Leicester have won just one of their past nine Premier League away games against Chelsea (drew three, lost five), with the Foxes scoring just five goals in these visits and never more than one in a game.
    • The Blues have picked up just one win in their past four Premier League home games (drew one, lost two). They have also conceded 10 goals in these four games, as many as they had in their previous 13 at Stamford Bridge.
    • The Foxes have not won their final away game in any of their past 13 Premier League campaigns (drew three, lost 10), since a 4-2 win at Blackburn in 1996-97.

Everton v Crystal Palace (19:45 BST)

Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

You’ve got to be professional even if fans are getting up for it.

Sometimes the atmosphere gets to certain players. That has happened with Everton.

The Jarrad Branthwaite sending off was really unfortunate.

But the Salomon Rondon one – he is experienced, it’s a stupid tackle and now he is out for the rest of the season when they might need him to come on and make a difference.

Discipline is a big thing. You have to have cool heads.
