There's a bit of a cup final atmosphere on the route up to Anfield from the train station with flags fluttering from cars and houses decked out in Liverpool colours.

The house on the left in the below picture gets kitted out like this whenever Liverpool are in a final or in the running for a major trophy, so the lifesize squad cutouts have been knocking about in the garden for a while this season with a couple of bits of silverware already in the bag.

The weather cannot make its mind up at Etihad Stadium - dark clouds one minute, bright sunshine the next. Manchester City fans will just be hoping things are far less turbulent on the pitch once the game gets under way.

  3. Where will the trophy be?published at 14:28 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

The presentation of the Premier League trophy could take place at one of two locations today - the Etihad Stadium or Anfield.

Sadly, there isn't some bloke hovering over the M62 in a helicopter waiting to be directed to one of two destinations depending on how things go.

It is understood the Premier League have two trophies prepared and waiting at both stadiums, along with two sets of medals - one bound for Liverpool and one bound for Manchester.

There are 40 medals available to the winners - given to players who have made more than five appearances, plus managers and officials.

As many as 80 have been prepared today.

    • Norwich have won just one of their past nine league games against Tottenham (D3 L5) - 1-0 at home in February 2014. The Canaries have conceded at least twice in their past five matches against Spurs (D1 L4).
    • This will be the sixth time Spurs have faced a side already relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season, though they’ve lost more of those games (three) than they’ve won (two).
    • Norwich have won their final league game in only two of their nine Premier League campaigns (D3 L4), beating Aston Villa in 2011-12 and Manchester City in 2012-13.
    • Tottenham have lost their final league game just once in the past 11 campaigns (W8 D2) - but that was 5-1 at already-relegated Newcastle in 2015-16.
    • The bottom side have won their final Premier League match in just two of the past 16 seasons (D3 L11).

I was hoping that the north London derby result would have an impact on both clubs as we entered into the last two games of the season - and so far it seems to be that way.

The win spurred Tottenham on to victory against Burnley - a game that was always going to feel like an event after the Lord Mayor's show, given the atmosphere and performance on Thursday.

Burnley were always going to play it safe, but Kane did what Kane does best, blasting the ball past a motionless Nick Pope to secure three crucial points.

And so over to Arsenal, now two points behind before their trip up to Newcastle.

Historically, that fixture favoured the team in red. However, the Magpies won convincingly to do us a huge favour.

Now fourth spot is all in our hands. Now we will truly see if Spurs have turned a corner under Conte.

  6. 'Champions League football is in your grasp' - your 20-word team talkspublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Norwich v Tottenham (16:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

We've been asking you to channel your inner Antonio Conte and deliver a 20-word team talk to inspire Tottenham before the final day of the season.

Here are some of your suggestions:

Elliott: Lads, you’re one step away from being where you deserve to be, the Champions League. Dare and do this Sunday!

Christopher: Go out there and work as a team. Let's get it done. Be strong. Help Son get the golden boot.

Bryan: Champions League football is in your grasp - underestimate Norwich and Arsenal will snatch that from us.

Dave: Do it for the fans, do it for yourselves, have no regrets, go out there and win.

Brendan: Don't be wary, Norwich aren't scary, they're named after a canary because they threaten goals rarely. Golden boot please Sonny!

And a couple that might've snuck marginally over the 20-word target...

Peter: Gentlemen, this is your day. Remember the great Tottenham sides, first club to win the impossible double, first to win a major European trophy. You are the beating heart of the beautiful game. Now is your chance to own this day and achieve what everyone thought was lost. We are Tottenham.

David: Lads we have all worked hard to get to this position, and are privileged to be here knowing what the final prize is! You shouldn't need much motivation for this game! So let's be confident and enjoy the game.

  7. Tottenham boss plays down food poisoning outbreakpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Norwich v Tottenham (16:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

An illness outbreak? At Spurs? Ahead of a crucial final day of the season? We've been here before.

Thankfully for Tottenham, Antonio Conte says Harry Kane will be fit to play their crucial final match despite feeling unwell and reportedly missing media commitments.

Kane has been ill along with other players and staff, but Conte denied there was a food poisoning outbreak.

"In this moment, this virus is the last of our problems," said Conte. "We are close to a big achievement."

Former Tottenham forward and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker tweeted on Friday that he had heard of a possible food poisoning outbreak at his old club.

Spurs suffered a sickness outbreak - which was labelled 'Lasagne-gate' - on the final day of the season in 2006 when they lost 2-1 to West Ham and were denied a Champions League spot by north London rivals Arsenal.

  8. 'Arsenal don't have responsible players'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (16:00 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don’t think Arsenal have responsible players. What I mean by that is players who will take information from the manager and pass it onto their team-mates in a way that makes them give better performances.

If the performances aren’t going right, they haven’t got those kind of players. That’s a massive thing when you want to get back into winning positions.

  9. 'Arsenal have struggled to handle pressure'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (16:00 BST)

    Andy Reid
Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I do think there’s quite a lot of progress being made at Arsenal. They’re a young team and they have developed.

It’s fair to say that a club like Arsenal, with the recent history they have, need to be getting into the Champions League. There has been a lot of progression, but I just think they’ve struggled to handle the pressure at really key points in the season.

  10. 'Not good enough' or 'we need perspective'? - your views on Arsenal's seasonpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (16:00 BST)

    Arsenal

We asked for your views on Arsenal's season, with a place in the Europa League now looking likely rather than a return to the Champions League.

    There's been a real range of responses - here's a snapshot:

Ross: This has been an amazingly frustrating season for Arsenal fans. Instead of being consistently below standard like the last two seasons under their amateur coach, they looked really promising a couple of times, only to break fans' hearts. Simply put, this squad of young children choked when it was all on the line. No excuses, this is below standard.

Oba: Season over - for me it's been over since that Everton game. Arteta isn't good or experienced enough to take Arsenal to the next level. He's showed it on more than one occasion since arriving and he'll be going into his third season with us next year. Truth be told our current squad wouldn't have been good enough for the Champions League anyway!

Carolyn: Sadly Arsenal have lost it. This season we have been very poor. Now to beat Everton will be hard. I think it’s Spurs’ season.

Steve: We started the season awful, we're ending it the same way! So many points lost through inconsistency. However, had we been in Europe this season it could have been a lot worse due to the depth of our squad. Perhaps we should just be thankful for where we are!

Asif: One thing that us Arsenal fans need more than anything is perspective. Yes we didn't perform against Newcastle or Spurs, it hurts - but look at the big picture. We have an incredible emerging squad of players getting better. Fifth is better than eighth! We have a manager who deeply cares about the club. This is the Premier League, it's not easy!

    Charlene Smith, AFTV, external

I cannot believe how we performed against Newcastle! I did not see any fight, confidence or intent.

Newcastle were the better side from kick-off - they looked more like they were fighting for the top four.

I’m absolutely gutted that we have got this far and it feels like we're now giving up.

We have to beat Everton and pray that Norwich beat Spurs.

I'm going to fight with the team to the end. Until the season is over, there is still the possibility of finishing fourth. Let’s go! #COYG

  12. We are not where we should be - Artetapublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Arsenal v Everton (16:00 BST)

    Arsenal

    Mikel ArtetaImage source, Getty Images

Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal have made progress this season but says "we want to be in a completely different position".

The Gunners can finish fourth and return to the Champions League if they beat Everton on Sunday and Tottenham Hotspur lose at Norwich City.

Arteta feels there is a good culture around Emirates Stadium now and that the team has re-connected with the fans.

But the manager added: "It is very clear and obvious we are not where we should be.

"This club's history tells us we need to be the best. We have to get there somehow. That takes a certain amount of time and windows.

"We want to be challenging the top teams. The league table doesn't lie - after 37 games it says we are very far away from those teams, and that is the level we have to meet.

"We have strong foundations to build what we need to do. We need to increase the quality of the squad."

  13. 'Both extremely consistent'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

Man City v Aston Villa (16:00 BST)

Steven Gerrard says Manchester City and Liverpool have been "the two best teams by far that we have faced".

"One tries to hurt you with positional play and possession, the other with speed and intensity," he said.

"They are very different but they are both extremely consistent. They have top managers and top players and have both recruited well over a period of time.

"It’s no surprise they get the results they do."

Well, Kylian Mbappe has caused a right old stink hasn't he?

I mean, great news for Paris Saint-Germain, of course. They've still got one of the world's finest players, even if it is going to cost them (if you believe some reports), external £1.6m a week.

But he's sparked all sorts of fury over in Spain, especially in Madrid, where Real were pretty confident they were going to sign the player this summer.

Forgive me if I'm not overly sympathetic to the anguish of little, old, humble Real.

Spain's La Liga called the deal "scandalous" and announced it plans to file a complaint to Uefa as well as French and EU authorities.

For more on why Mbappe chose to reject Real Madrid and stay at PSG, have a read of our column by Guillem Balague.

Today is the fifth anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombing, when 23 people were killed in an explosion as they were leaving at the end of a concert.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United have posted memorials on their media channels.

And United will wear the distinctive Manchester worker bee symbol on their shirts at Crystal Palace today.

    Liverpool v Wolves (16:00 BST)

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Anfield

With the Great Manchester Run taking place ahead of two huge Premier League games in the north west it is fair to say the journey via train from my home in Manchester to Liverpool was a tad chaotic, but it did provide an interesting glimpse into the thoughts of City and Liverpool fans.

In Manchester, the City supporters I came across were cautiously optimistic, hoping for an early goal to settle the nerves.

The chatter among Liverpool fans on their way to Anfield was mixed, some believing the Quadruple would be on by the end of today, others expecting nothing but a comfortable win for both sides involved in the title battle which would be, of course, enough for City to win it.

Whatever happens the next few hours promises to be some of the best and most dramatic on a Premier League final day.

OkeyDokey: Despite a deteriorating brain due to dementia, my Dad will still make a phone call at least once a week to ask how Tottenham got on. These moments are the ones I'll remember most.

This is beautiful. Me, my dad and brother support a team that could have a really bad day today. But that's just part of football. The only really important thing is that we can still go to games together and sit in the pub talking about it.

  20. 'You need to carry a threat'published at 13:54 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

Man City v Aston Villa (16:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard believes Aston Villa can cause problems against Manchester City today.

Villa pushed Liverpool hard last week and almost pulled off a memorable comeback against City in the reverse fixture.

"Against a lot of the top teams, we have done well. It took a penalty for Liverpool to beat us at Anfield; we took City to the death with pressure.

"We could have nicked a point there. We need everyone to be all in, in terms of organisation and what we give to the game.

"But at the same time, we are not just going to wait and show no ambition. We need to carry a threat in this game."
