I didn't think Gnabry had a good game against Japan. I kind of expected him not to play today and so far he's not done very well. With the ball today he's just given it away.

    Have it!

Marco Asensio tries to get through the Germany defence but his touch is heavy and there is Antonio Rudiger to punt the ball down field with all he's got.

Neuer attempts a very difficult pass over two Spanish players with his left foot but Raum came back and blocked it.

I don't get why the goalkeepers are attempting the most difficult thing.

After what happened to Germany in the Japan game, what they need to do now is settle down and not give away anything stupid. Neuer, who is the most experienced in this team, should know that. That was just silly.

Ferran Torres just takes a split second too long there and it allows the defender to get back. He has to be quicker at getting the ball out of his feet and getting the shot away.

    Spain 0-0 Germany

    Spain's turn to threaten.

Manuel Neuer's chipped pass out is poor and gifts the ball to the lads in red, who carve an opportunity for Ferran Torres. He dwells on the ball a second too long and it allows David Raum to get back and block his shot.

    Spain 0-0 Germany

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Al Bayt Stadium

Spain piecing together some very attractive moves and Germany keeper Manuel Neuer had to be at his best for that effort from Dani Olmo.

Germany, however, are standing firm and are determined not to let 18-year-old Gavi spend too much time on the ball.

One or two moments of carelessness at the back from Spain, including keeper Unai Simon, will give Germany encouragement.

One can understand the cautiousness of the German team. The tight rope they are walking is telling on their game. Spain have shown more flair. There will definitely be goals in this match.

Have Spain found the new Xavi and Iniesta in Pedri and Gavi?

  9. 'Germany aren't allowing Spain to dictate'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2022

    Spain 0-0 Germany

    Alan Shearer

That is really good play from Germany. They are ot alowing Spain to settle.

It was a good run from Ilkay Gundogan but it is really sloppy from Unai Simon.

When Spain have got the ball, Germany have it right in terms of the press at the moment and they are not allowing them to dictate the pace of the game, which is what they want.

    Panic at the back!

Germany press high to excellent effect. Ilkay Gundogan just fails to turn into space in the box for a shooting chance before Serge Gnabry gathers possession for an angled shot that dribbles past the far post.

    Very encouraging for Germany.

Alan is referring to the latest Germany dart forward. They're having the odd moment, but they're not hurting Spain. Yet.

Germany have got to try and do that. They've got to get the ball into Thomas Muller and get the runners off him.

There was a poor pass that time but that is how they can unlock the door.

Gregor: Spain look very dangerous going forward. But when Germany break they've got the talent to cause Spain real problems.

Andrew: Every time Busquets, Pedri or Gavi give the ball away, a fairy dies. Luckily for the fairy population, the chances of any of those 3 losing possession is slim to none.

Pedri is a nightmare to tackle. He's got such quick feet. He weaves past a couple of men on the charge but holds on to the ball a tad too long, allowing Germany to crowd him out.

Soon after, Jordi Alba fires an angled shot from range into the sidenetting.

There's been a lot of talk about Kimmich going back to right-back today to get the defence sorted out but he's said himself that there's no way he's doing it. He's a midfield player and that's his position.

Spain very much dominating possession so far but it is still just the one effort on goal - that thunderous shot from Dani Olmo early doors.

There won't be too many times that Thomas Muller will run in behind so they'll have to look for the diagonal ball to spread the game too.

Ilkay Gundogan, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala will have to try run in behind.

The Spain defenders had it easy in their first game and they shouldn't have it that easy again.
