Another game, another staggering record achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo. To play at x5 World Cup tournaments is an incredible achievement, never mind scoring at each and every one. Along with his natural ability it is testament to the incredible physical condition he has always kept himself in that he has been able to achieve this feat.

Look at those Ghanaians fans - that goal was right in front of them and they are going berserk.

It's that man Mohammed Kudus. He's been so good in this game and here the ball comes to him and it's a really good cross with his left foot. He puts the ball into a good area, it skims through Danilo's legs and all credit to Andre Ayew. He's gambled on the ball coming through and he's there to sidefoot in.

    A massive moment for Ghana.

    Captain Ayew strikes!

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal has woken Ghana from their slumber and they have attacked Portugal since falling behind.

Mohammed Kudus cuts the back back inside the penalty area, it goes through the legs of Danilo Pereira into the path of Andre Ayew to tap home.

Good to see Ronaldo's diving abilities haven't diminished with the rest of his game.... ridiculous decision from the officials.

"Siuuuuu" rings out around Stadium 974, Cristiano Ronaldo darted to the corner to take the acclaim of the Portugal supporters.

    It had to be him.

  10. Second oldest World Cup scorer everpublished at 67 mins

    Portugal 1-0 Ghana

Cristiano Ronaldo is the second oldest player to score at the World Cup (37 years, 292 days), behind only Roger Milla in 1994 for Cameroon (42 years, 39 days).

Will that Milla record ever be broken? Surely not. Even if Ronaldo somehow plays at the next one, he'll still only be 41...

CR7 is the oldest player to score for a European nation at the World Cup, though, overtaking Sweden's Gunnar Gren (37 years, 236 days) in 1958.

That is the worst penalty decision of all time. No VAR intervention, not even referred. Complete disgrace.

How has VAR not intervened on that penalty decision? That was a clear dive by Ronaldo.

  12. 'Put away nicely'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    Portugal 1-0 Ghana

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I was in this stadium two evenings ago to watch Robert Lewandowski miss his penalty and his facial expression when he took that was one of concern.

I looked at Cristiano Ronaldo's face before that. He blew his cheeks out, confident expression and smashes it high to the goalkeeper's right.

A really clinical confident penalty. I think it was a dubious call but there was contact and Ronaldo knew exactly what he was doing.

But this is the game and he's certainly put it away nicely.

Say what you like about Ronaldo. He's going to be missed when he finally hangs up those goal-den boots.

  14. 'He's bought that'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    Portugal 1-0 Ghana

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It looks like a dive to me.

There's a small bit of contact but there's not enough there to knock him down surely?

The thought running through my head when I saw Salisu coming over was "don't bite on it, don't put your foot out".

He does put it out which allows Ronaldo to take that and fall over.

For me, he's bought that contact.

    Portugal 0-0 Ghana

Cristiano Ronaldo goes flying inside the box under a challenge by Mohammed Salisu.

The referee immediately points to the spot but Ghana's players are protesting. VAR has looked at it - it's a pen and Ronaldo has placed the ball on the spot.

It's not been pretty for the most part but Ghana have defended doggedly.

The purple triangles in the graphic below represent Ghana tackles, blocks, interceptions and clearances - look how many of them there are in the final third and particularly the 18-yard box.

We have spoken of how few touches Ghana have had in the opposition area - but they have limited Portugal to just 16 touches in the Black Stars' box too.

When Portugal have got in promising positions, Ghana have worked incredibly hard to close them down.

  19. 'Referee managed that well'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2022

    Portugal 0-0 Ghana

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Joao Felix has committed to that as much as Alidu Seidu but there is a nudge of the head from Seidu. He pushes his forehead down his nose.

But I'm not sure there's enough contact there for Felix to sit on the floor for five minutes. He's made a lot of that considering he initiated the contact in the first place.

I think the referee has managed that quite well.

People very quick to jump in and complain a lack of quality in goals, but these guys have literally come 7 days from their last club game, the goals will come eventually, they always do.
