No doubt about it, Cristiano Ronaldo was quite emotional before kick-off. It's been a big few days. This is his last World Cup. This means everything to him.

Ghana need to find a way of getting their two dangermen into the game.

Mohammed Kudus put in some great performances in the Champions League for Ajax, while Inaki Williams has five goals in La Liga for Athletic Bilbao this season.

Neither have had a sniff so far.

It's all a bit in and around the 18-yard box. It looks a bit like a horseshoe with how Portugal move it from side to side.

Ghana have been disciplined, done their job and made blocks at the right time. They're making Portugal work really hard to try and get an opening.

Things can only get better.

There's more energy in the stands where Ghana's fans are gathered than out on the pitch.

Ghana are yet to have an attempt at goal or a touch in the Portugal box - even when they won those two corners, they did not touch the ball in the opposition's area.

Only once previously since records began (1966) has a side failed to have a shot or a touch in the opposition box in the first half of a World Cup match - Saudi Arabia against France in 1998.

Another half chance for Portugal. Was that a cross or an attempt by Otavio? It sails over the bar and it's another missed opportunity.

Bruno Fernandes sends a looping ball over the heads of Ghana's defence and into the path of Raphael Guerreiro who hits it straight at team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo from close range.

It's just not happening for Portugal.

A pretty telling picture, this average position map.

Ghana have had 10 men in their own half quite a lot - every Portugal player other than their goalkeeper and centre-halves have spent more time in the opposition half than their own.

And even the centre-halves' average position is creeping up on the centre circle.

Portugal haven't really got into their rhythm.

They are lovely to watch. When they play their little triangles, it's like watching five-a-side football with them scooping it over people's heads and playing one-twos - but it hasn't produced much so far.

If Ghana are patient and don't over-commit, then Portugal will have to find something different.

It's greeted with a blast of those trumpets where Ghana's fans are seated.

Cristiano Ronaldo's first 35 minutes:

One attempt saved.

One bad miss.

One disallowed goal.

It's never dull when he's on the pitch.

Does that look a bit soft to you?

There's not a lot in it from Cristiano Ronaldo. You expect Alexander Djiku to stand his ground there but he was looking for it.

There was a shove but it was really only a 50/50 push. You'd expect the defender to be able to hold him off but he went down really easily.

I can see why Ronaldo is frustrated.

Back to that disallowed goal.

Replays show there was a nudge and the refereee blew his whistle for the foul before Ronaldo's fine attempt hit the back of the net.

Portugal's players are not happy but at least it's brought this game to life.
