Lovely strike from Weah, edge of the box. It just bobbles up at him and he takes it on the half volley and it just flies into the keepers midriff.

Really good technique. It's really difficult to control that type of strike. I think the way the USA get back into the game is down their right hand side.

Finally, the USA thrown a proper punch!

Timothy Weah latches on to a loose ball to blast a humdinger of a shot at the Dutch goal. It is too hot for Andries Noppert to handle. He has to dive to palm the ball away.

That's how his dad used to hit em!

Argh, another poor pass lets the USA down at a crucial time!

Timothy Weah does really well to carry the ball forward on the right and feed a ball in that finds its way to Christian Pulisic. His low ball out to the left, though, has way too much on it. The danger evaporates.

For a second, it looks like the US might have the men in the box to hurt the Dutch, but Christian Pulisic's low cross is blocked.

This after Yunus Musah was found well in the middle but produces a dire touch to allow a man in orange to tackle him.

I've never seen Virgil van Dijk sprint anyway because he is so good but he is just marshalling the Netherlands defence, wherever he wants them to go.

saidmadrid: USA need to be more patient with the ball and not give it away that cheap that allows a dangerous Dutch counter.

Around the 15-minute mark, this was shaping up to be quite exciting. The ball was being zipped about, the US were committing men forward and the Dutch were hitting them on the break. It's become progressively duller since.

USA seem obsessed with trying to go through the middle. They need to go down the sides, we need to see more width from them.

It has been 30 minutes since the USA last attempted a shot in this game.

You tend to associate the Dutch with freeflowing total football. This is not that. It's proving effective here, though. Against a team with a bit more about them in attack? Well, unless the USA can improve, we're unlikely to find out.

It was a Dutch journalist who confronted Louis van Gaal yesterday and said the style of play was boring.

Van Gaal said, 'well go home then' and the journalist said, 'no, I have to stay until the final.'

'See you there' was Van Gaal's response.

Each time the USA do feed a ball in to a man in the final third, it is to a runner from deep charging into a wide area, not a forward who can either get in goal or hold the ball up.

It is making it a lot easier for the Dutch to defend because the US have to almost instantly retreat back to where they came from.

USA boss Gregg Berhalter has not moved away from the edge of his technical area all match. He's coaching the players through the game. I think Louis van Gaal is winning the tactical battle at the moment though.

Sloppy passes, nervous touches, long aimless passages of play. The US are starting to falter.

Denzel Dumfries tries to re-enact the opening goal with a low ball to the edge of the box from the right, but the US are more wise to it this time. In steps a player to belt the ball away.

Two Dutch corners yield nothing before the ball is fired towards Denzel Dumfries on the right. He'd need Inspector Gadget's limbs to reach it, though.
