Australia made it difficult, that was the game plan to frustrate and that's what they were.

It was always going to be a piece of brilliance and that's exactly what it was.

  9. 'Australia can take heart from their performance'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    HT: Argentina 1-0 Australia

    Mile Jedinak
Former Australia captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

Conceding the goal in the manner we did more so than the man who scored it, we know his ability. I just think Behich and Messi have the little tussle beforehand it's just a lapse in concentration and a rash decision which allows Argentina in.

Australia will take heart from the way they played. Argentina have played a little bit within themselves and rightly so and Australia have got to pick their opportunities now and do it more frequently in this second half.

But when Messi is on the pitch, you can set up how you like, he'll find a way.

They've done alright Australia, they haven't had many chances but they have contained Argentina really well.

At 1-0 you are still in it. That's the message I would be saying at half-time if they can get to that.
