Joe: Both Morocco and Spain should be told they both lost after that, and we'll invite another side back as a wild card.

Morocco's Hakim Ziyech tries to find Walid Cheddira with a diagonal ball but it's not accurate enough.

Gray: The rain in Spain falls mainly on the… practice pitch where they do thousands of passes but generally avoid putting the ball in the net.

Anon: Extra time! Enough for 1000 more useless Spain passes! Yay.

  4. 'A sense of danger from Morocco'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

    Morocco 0-0 Spain

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

At least a striker is on for Spain, it adds a bit of edge.

Morocco lack quality in the last decision but they have pace and combine well, there is a sense of danger.

  5. Average positions tell the storypublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

    Morocco 0-0 Spain

This graphic, showing the average positions of the two sets of players, sums up the pattern of the first 90 minutes.

Almost all the Morocco players (dark circles) have been back inside their own half when they have had the ball, while their Spanish counterparts have held most of their 81% possession between the halfway line and the Moroccan penalty area.

While the lack of goalmouth action has been obvious, you can't knock the drama of this occasion.

Such a fascinating contest. Can Spain ultimately pass their way through this solid Morocco rearguard action.

The next 30 minutes are going to be very, very tense for both sets of fans.

Morocco were eliminated in their last three knockout matches that went to extra time - two in the Africa Cup of Nations and one in the Arab Cup.

    FT: Morocco 0-0 Spain

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There are a lot of tired players out there.

It might be the least tired players that win this game rather than the best players.

Spain's previous two World Cup knockout matches also went to extra time.

They beat the Netherlands 1-0 in the 2010 final and lost to Russia on penalties in the last 16 four years ago.

Weird to think this is only their second knockout game since the 2010 final.

Dani Olmo swings this free-kick in and it goes through a crowd of players with Bono palming it away. He didn't mean to shoot but he almost scored the winner.

If this goes to penalties, I'd back Morocco to win it. Spain's penalty record is poor and there will be a lot of pressure on them tonight.

Grant: Do they grow up in Spain with a version of football where you get a bonus goal for every 1,000 passes?

Peter: Bit of a comedown from the past six knockout games so far. Really hope the Portugal game is better than this. Spain are far too possession-based and hopefully they don't make it to the final like this. What happened since that opening 7-0?!

Morocco free-kick, Hakim Ziyech to take. Romain Saiss is offside before a couple of Moroccan half-chances that wouldn't have counted.

Alvaro Morata cannot believe he has missed that so badly. He has so much space.

It’s not an easy angle but really? He has to get that on target.
