Austria are struggling now, with the England tails up.
Laura Wienroither drops for some minor treatment before a mad scramble following an England corner. The Austrian keeper, Manuela Zinsberger, is brave to throw herself on the loose ball after a Millie Bright header and some wrestling for a subsequent touch.

"Wow" is all I can say - that is an unbelievable bit of play from England. Fran Kirby comes back and does exactly what she does best: she's cut inside from that left-hand side in the inside 10 position and dinked the ball over the Austrian defence with an unbelievable bit of skill. I looked on the screens and it was definitely a goal. Beth Mead: what a player and what a season she is having. Doing it again in an England shirt is fully deserved - even if it was against the run of play, on balance.
England 1-0 Austria
As the goal-line graphic shows, the ball was over the line by an inch or two.
We've now got a Mexican Wave, bucking the trend of these only happening when a game gets dull.
They're having a carnival in Manchester.

England 1-0 Austria
It really was a deft finish from Mead. A true touch of class.

Wonderful touch and what a lift over the keeper. We have goalline technology. It was signalled. The goal was given. What a sensational finish from Beth Mead. Ellen White knew it had gone over the line. After 15 minutes England lead.
England 1-0 Austria
Whatever it is for, it is not enough to rule the goal out. The crowd get an aftershock of cheering for the goal.
England lead in the opening game of Euro 2022. Nice.
England 1-0 Austria
No, wait. We've got a VAR check. Is this for offside? Or a failure of the goal-line technology?
Beth Mead
LIFT OFF!
Fran Kirby finds Beth Mead in the box, behind the Austrian defence. After that is all about her control to bring the ball down on her chest and then her delicate chipped finish over the onrushing keeper.
Initially, it looks as though the ball has been hooked clear. But goal-line tech gives it.
England 0-0 Austria
Millie Bright has been a bit of a magnet for the ball in these opening stages. Her headed clearance sets up an attack that sees Georgia Stanway beat one, two, three players before seeing her cross diverted behind a team-mate.
For a second there, I thought we were going to see a special Euros goal.
England 0-0 Austria
The visitors remain a threat on the counter, though. It takes a Millie Bright hooked clearance to prevent a cross from the left causing serious bother. Austria worked that very nicely.
England 0-0 Austria
Austria are dug in now. England dictating matters.

My question is, throughout the 90 minutes, can Austria sustain this level of intensity? This is not a worry for England but the early stages of this game have been very intense. They need someone to take control of the ball.
England 0-0 Austria
Signs now that England are warming to this task.
Lauren Hemp comes in from the left to meet Lucy Bronze's cross but heads over. Did she get a little nudge from the defender to put her off?

Precision pass to start it. Lauren Hemp needed to maybe hit it first time and if not drill it low and hard. It was hard for Ellen White to get any power on it.

In that midfield, already, it's three-v-three with the formations lined up. Austria are dominating so far and they've just really stifled England's counter-attack. It's been a really bright start from Austria. They won that corner because Keira Walsh played a very risky touch with her feet after Leah Williamson should have cleared from the edge of the 18-yard box. Irene Fuhrmann is really, really happy with her team so far.
England 0-0 Austria
First real effort of the game comes from Ellen White, who's header in the middle from Lauren Hemp's cross loops to the Austrian keeper.
It all came from a cracking forward ball from Millie Bright. Beckenbauer-esque.
England 0-0 Austria
The backing and desire from this crowd is right there. Every England tackle or hint of an attack is cheered to the rafters. Austria are keeping a lid on most of it, though.
England 0-0 Austria
More work from Millie Bright at the back. She has to hack away a cross from the right.
