Rhys Lewis: This is a sad day for football. City can be frivolous with buying. They don't deserve this; they haven't earnt their success. They got an influx of cash and suddenly end up top of the pile. They'll probably win everything next season and turn the PL into Ligue 1.

Adam: Haaland will be amazing in the Premier League, but you do have to ask yourself - isn't it now even more pointless? If the squad stays fit, City will be untouchable for the next 4 or 5 years. The league is meant to be competitive!

Erling Haaland passed his medical in Belgium yesterday.

In the next few days, lawyer Rafaela Pimenta will deal with the wages on behalf of Haaland.

Pimenta has worked closely with the late Mino Raiola for the past 18 years. Since Raiola fell ill a month ago, she has been leading the negotiations.

At last City have someone worthy of KDB's assists. They will take some beating with such a prolific striker in their team.

    Andy, Truro

Oh my...there's not going to be much point in anyone else turning up the next couple of seasons is there? A major major signing for City...Haaland is special.

    Stephen, Glasgow

One of the biggest moves of the last decade. If Pep signs a new deal then what can stop City? RIP United.

  7. How Haaland will add new dimension to Citypublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 10 May 2022

    Micah Richards
    Former Manchester City defender

My first reaction when I heard that Manchester City had agreed to sign Erling Haaland was just 'wow!'

What a brilliant bit of business the deal will be, and what an unbelievable signing he is going to be.

I don't want to say he is the missing piece in their team, because City have been excellent for the past couple of seasons anyway while mostly doing without a recognised striker, but he will add a whole new dimension to their play.

I remember when City beat Borussia Dortmund last season, Haaland was roughing up Ruben Dias and I'd never seen anyone do that to him before.

Every time I watch him, his finishing is just ridiculously good. I still think City miss too many chances, but that won't happen very often when they fall to Haaland. His numbers aren't just great in the Bundesliga, either - they are just as impressive in the Champions League.

  9. A Dortmund legal statement reads...published at 16:09 British Summer Time 10 May 2022

Player Erling Haaland (“Player”) is about to transfer from Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA (“BVB”) to Manchester City Football Club Limited (“Manchester City”).All parties have agreed on the basics of this today. The contractual details still have to be coordinated and documented. The implementation of the transfer is also subject to proper and timely processing in accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS).

With the realization of this transfer business, the management expects a positive effect on the key earnings figures (EBITDA, EBIT) for the 2022/2023 financial year in the order of around EUR 35.0 million - 40.0 million.Due to the opening of the international FIFA transfer window from July 1st, 2022 and, among other things, other regulatory association requirements, the transfer business will not fall into the current 2021/2022 financial year, but into the 2022/2023 financial year.

Richard Browne: City took a big gamble not paying the Levy on Kane last summer. It failed (in respect of the CL at least) ; but with Haaland they should be unstoppable.

Doni: City about to become very dangerous with a real number 9, as if they weren't without one. Clubs like United will be scrambling for a real striker this summer.

The deal ends Manchester City's hunt for a successor to their all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer.

Aguero retired from a heart condition months later.

City have played without a recognised striker for much of the past couple of years.

  17. Farewell...published at 14:54 British Summer Time 10 May 2022

    Right then my friends.

That is our lot for today. We've heard from Pep, Tuchel, Conte, covered off Haaland, heard about Haringey Borough's striker problems and even taken loads of motivational tips from Jesse Marsch.

What a sport this is. It gives, it gives and it gives.

Make sure you follow our live for Aston Villa v Liverpool tonight. It will give too.... in spades.

    Farewell all.

Tom David Hughes: Haringey Borough FC need a new striker - we’ve played most of this season without a recognised one. A permanent goalkeeper would be good too - that position has been in limbo ever since the great Valery Pajetat left for Parts Unknown.

We've asked who your club needs on its summer shopping list. We can't all buy Erling Haaland but we can still improve.

  19. Leeds have stepped up...published at 14:49 British Summer Time 10 May 2022

Leeds v Chelsea (Wed, 19:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says he has been impressed with an improvement in Leeds since manager Jesse Marsch took charge.

"It looks different," he says. "They stepped up in their physical input. We thought they were already on their top level physical wise under Marcelo Bielsa. But they have stepped up high intensity runs. This is what we expect. They play a slightly different formation. They played a back five against City.

"They look very committed. It's a fast, hard working team. A talented team individually. It's a match for them where it's almost like do or die. The atmosphere will be like this. I am looking forward to it. Tomorrow will be a big fight. The atmosphere and surrounding will tell you instantly what is going on and we need to step up."

  20. Villa's night to rememberpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 10 May 2022
