  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 63 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

    Yeah, as I was saying...

Chuba Akpom and Duncan Watmore are off and Josh Coburn and Marcus Forss are on as Chris Wilder goes to his bench for the first time.

  2. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

No subs from either side yet.

I would expect Boro to look to make one soon because they've been on the ropes for much of this half.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 60 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

And now John Swift is booked for the Baggies for pulling back Isaiah Jones as he looks to break forward.

  4. Wigan boss Richardson: 'It was a feisty derby'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Wigan 0-0 Preston

Wigan boss Leam Richardson told BBC Radio Manchester:

"A feisty derby? I'd echo that. I think it was everything you expected, fantastic for the fans, for a derby on the first game of the season.

"The pace of the game was excellent. Every player who stepped on the pitch gave a good account of themselves and so did the fans as well.

"Sometimes the sending off doesn't help. I felt the first half it was toing and froing, they probably shaded it. The second-half we grew into it a bit more, but with the sending off they're able to drop 10 yards deeper.

"On reflection, a clean sheet, first game back into the Championship. These lads have done great."

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 59 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

Marc Bola is in the book for the home side for a pretty agricultural tackle from behind on Jed Wallace on the halfway line.

That's two Boro players in the book now.

Baggies boss Steve Bruce has also been shown a yellow but not really sure why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

  6. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

Jeepers, Middlesbrough are all over the shop at the back now.

West Brom have got in behind them three times in the past five minutes.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 55 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

Great work from Zack Steffen in the Boro goal.

The big American is his line really well to stop John Swift making it 2-1 to the Baggies.

The home side hanging on just now.

  8. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom

West Brom have well and truly got their tails up now.

Steve Bruce will be delighted with how his men have started this second half after what was a pretty poor showing in the first 45.

It was a great run from Jed Wallace, he looked up, saw John Swift and he's played a great ball into him and it was a gift.

It said 'put it away'. Great play by the two new lads. It's buoyed the Albion support.

  10. goal

GOAL: Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brompublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    John Swift (51 mins)

    Debut goal!

The Baggies had been coming back into it in the past few minutes and now they have a goal to show for their work.

They get men forward very quickly on the counter and one debutant in Jed Wallace cuts it back for another, John Swift, to sweep home.

    Lovely.

    Game on!

  11. Preston boss Ryan Lowe: 'I was pleased with resilience'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Wigan 0-0 Preston

Preston boss Ryan Lowe told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"We could be better, I thought we had some good moments and patterns of play, and got some great opportunities, we could have scored a couple of goals.

"But ultimately Wigan as well put their body on the line for the cause and had some moments of play and good things from them.

"It was two teams definitely trying to win the game and get three points at either end but more importantly I'm pleased with the reaction when we went down to 10 men. The back lads were resilient."

  12. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-0 West Brom

Middlesbrough have started this half on the front foot with crosses coming in from both sides.

West Brom then cause some problems in the home area from a Jed Wallace cross but it's hacked away.

  13. Second halfpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Middlesbrough 1-0 West Brom

    We are back under way.

Can West Brom fightback or will Boro be starting the season with a home win?

  14. Bristol City manager Pearson: 'We don't deserve to lose'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Hull City 2-1 Bristol City

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol:

"We've played well, we don't deserve to lose but I'm afraid you can't do a lot about that when circumstances pan out like they did.

"We feel really aggrieved with the equaliser that they got and that we didn't get a penalty almost straight after that. Their winner is just one of those things that sometimes happens in games, a big deflection which gives you no chance with.

"There's absolutely nothing [contact for the Hull penalty] and to be honest with you, their player should have been booked for falling over afterwards. I just find it quite bizarre really. But I don't want to start moaning about referees on day one, I actually spoke to Kevin Friend before the game.

"We did OK for long periods in the game, we didn't quite pass the ball as well as we can do in the second half but we've had opportunities. Tommy Conway had a chance when he went on, Jay had a shot across the goal. We've put them under pressure but it's a disappointing end to a very promising performance."

  15. Hull City manager Arveladze: 'We kept going because of the supporters helped us'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Hull City 2-1 Bristol City

Hull City manager Shota Arveladze told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was an even game, even though we went 1-0 down we had an even game. They had their chances, we had the chances.

"We kept going because the supporters helped us, gave us the extra energy which sometimes you want to find in the last half an hour. Altogether I believe they assisted with the energy to the boys and the boys used that energy and finished the game.

"I believe Benjamin [Tetteh] had the time to really make a goal so I should not think why would he go down, they didn't break his leg but probably they touched him enough to get this penalty. It was a yard away, one and a half yards away from the goal.

"I don't want to say it's 100%, but it's a penalty which was almost a goal so he would not go down, that's what I want to believe."

    Tony Brown
West Brom's all-time record goalscorer on BBC Radio WM

I would be amazed if something doesn't change at half-time to nullify the threat that is coming from the flanks.

You could see it from the first few minutes and Albion have had plenty of time to sort it out but no-one is picking up the wing-backs.

They have got to sort it out.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

And that's the whistle for half-time.

Middlesbrough have been the better side and maybe should have more than just the one goal to show for it.

Isaiah Jones gave them the lead after Jed Wallace had seen his cross-shot tipped on to the crossbar by Zack Steffen in the Boro goal.

Since then it's been almost all Middlesbrough though and Duncan Watmore should have made it 2-0 when he got it all wrong at the back stick.

One minute of time added on at the end of the half.

  20. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-0 West Brom

Marc Bola, who earlier almost hit a shot into space, has a better go this time around.

It opens up nicely for the Boro centre-back and his low shot is well held by David Button in the Baggies goal.
