A tale of two signings for Millwall, who take the lead against Stoke with an excellent set piece.

George Honeyman, who arrived from Hull this summer, sends in a free-kick which Charlie Cresswell, on loan from Leeds, gets his head on and sends the ball straight past Josef Bursik for his first goal for the team.

  8. CLOSE!published at 15:10 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    Hull City 0-0 Bristol City

What a start from Bristol City and new signing Mark Sykes, who's unlucky to not have helped his team get off to a perfect start and go 1-0 up.

The midfielder dashes down the right wing and sends in an excellent cross to the six yard box, which Matty James gets his head on. But Matt Ingram is there and saves the ball and clears it from danger behind.

We have our first goals of the season in the third and fourth tiers.

A right-footed Dan Batty strike has put Fleetwood ahead at promoted Port Vale in League One, while Dan Wheeler has put Wycombe a goal up against Burton and Sheffield Wednesday have broken the deadlock against Portsmouth.

And we've also had three goals in League Two - Carlisle lead much-fancied Crawley, Salford are 1-0 up against last season's play-off finalists Mansfield and title favourites Stockport trail at home to Barrow.

    Hull City 0-0 Bristol City

Andi Weimann was on fire for Bristol City last season, enjoying his best and most prolific campaign in front of goal.

The Austrian forward seems to have picked up exactly where he left off in May, making a dangerous darting run before being brought down by for a foul and free kick.

    Mark Walton
Former Norwich keeper on BBC Radio Norfolk

Looking at Cardiff physically, they're a strong powerful side.

    There's some good physical specimens.

So every time they can get close to Norwich there'll be some physical aspects to their play.

    Derby 0-0 Oxford

    Simon Stone

New owner David Clowes has done what is being stressed is a rare interview for the Derby match programme today.

Clowes talks a lot about stability. His target is to make progress towards rebuilding the club.

But there is clear emotion in his words too.

"We didn't want the club or the supporters to suffer any more," he said.

"I will miss being in my seat in the North Stand but if that is the price I have to pay for securing the future of Derby County, that is the way it has to be."

    Luton v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

I can’t wait to see what Luton Town have to offer this season. In fact, this opener sums up what we love about the Championship. Two clubs who I can’t predict a finish for come May.

Luton shocked everyone by making the play-offs, but they deserved it. And this summer they’ve brought in seven new faces, whilst keeping hold of last season’s top performers.

Over at Birmingham, it’s of course been a rough summer due to the ownership situation, and they’ve had very limited transfer business.

However, the late arrival of Krystian Bielik on loan from Derby is a bit of a coup. The Poland centre-half will be looking to reignite his career under the new Blues boss John Eustace.

It’s worth noting that despite 28 points separating the two last season, Birmingham did the double over the Hatters, beating them 8-0 on aggregate. So perhaps it’ll be more evenly matched than it looks!

    Blackburn v QPR (15:00 BST)

Jon Dahl TomassonImage source, Rex Features

Both Blackburn and QPR start the season as somewhat unknown quantities under new managers.

Denmark legend Jon Dahl Tomasson has replaced Tony Mowbray at Rovers, while former Rangers and Aston Villa assistant Michael Beale is in for Mark Warburton at QPR.

The two men could hardly have had more different playing careers, Tomasson won 112 caps for his country and the Champions League with AC Milan as a player and Beale never played professionally.

This is also Beale's first senior management role.

  20. All change in south Walespublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

Cardiff City v Norwich City (15:00 BST)

    Philip Marsh
BBC Sport Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff fans have a lot of new faces to get to know this season - 13 in total!

Defender Perry Ng is the only player to start last season's opener against Barnsley and today against Norwich.

There are seven players making their competitive debut for the Bluebirds, who are very much an unknown quantity going into this new campaign.

Steve Morison will be hoping to stamp his own brand on football on the team, but they face a tough task in the form of the Canaries this afternoon.
