Jeester: When you factor in that he played everyone onside AND the shot/cross was going wide, that Salisu own goal might be the worst I've ever seen.

  2. 'I love how this team is playing'published at 16:59 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski: "We are very pleased - it wasn't an easy game. going behind at home isn't nice and after we scored we could have scored a lot more. I love how this team is playing because we create a lot of chances and the fans are enjoying it and I like playing.

"I've missed playing. It is so nice to be back in front of the fans and the family and I really enjoyed it.

"We have a lot of days before the next game so we'll be able to recover and train ahead of the next game because Chelsea are an amazing team and it will be a tough game."

  3. 'Free flowing Spurs'published at 16:57 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Crystal Palace striker on Football Focus

Apart from going 1-0 down, a bump in the road, Spurs have been superb. They've scored four goals with some free flowing football.

Kulusevski has been the stand out player and Kane and Son not on the score sheet, who expected that? I'm sure some FPL fans out there will be very disappointed. Really good by Conte and a great afternoon for Tottenham.

    Leeds 2-1 Wolves

No friendly handshakes at full time between Leeds coach Jesse Marsch and Wolves boss Bruno Lange, who is absolutely fuming.

I think Lange felt Wolves should have had a free-kick right before the full time whistle was blown.

  5. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Newcastle 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

St James' Park is a difficult place to come with Eddie Howe at the helm and the Newcastle fans behind the team.

Nobody will fancy the trip, that's guaranteed.

This is a good team that you can see has been coached.

    Bournemouth 2-0 Aston Villa

After winning just two of their last 11 games of last season, Villa pick up from where they left off as despite having almost half of the amount of Villa's possession and shots, Bournemouth enjoy a comfortable win on their return to the Premier League after a two-year absence.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

Not a bad start, Spurs fans?

Four goals - and not a single one for Harry Kane or Son Heung-min.

Headers from Ryan Sessegnon and Eric Dier, a Mohammed Salisu own goal and a fine finish from the excellent Dejan Kulusevski make it a superb start for Antonio Conte's men.

Saints actually led through James Ward-Prowse but barely threatened after that.

  8. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Leeds 2-1 Wolves

All over and Leeds kick off the new Premier League season with a win and a performance that provides plenty of hope they won't be involved in a relegation battle this season.

For Wolves, improvement is needed in their attack as they failed to make the most of their spells of possessional dominance.

  9. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Newcastle 2-0 Nottm Forest

It took Newcastle 14 matches to register their first Premier League win last season - no such trouble this term.

Fabian Schar's blockbuster and a very classy Callum Wilson strike earn Eddie Howe's side a fully deserved opening-day triumph.

Food for thought for Nottingham Forest, whose first Premier League game in 23 years ends in defeat.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Newcastle 2-0 Nottm Forest

Newcastle take advantage of the situation to hand £33m defender Sven Botman a debut. Only a minute or two left.

  11. Postpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Leeds 2-1 Wolves

Daniel Podence's ball forward takes a little deflection and there's a glimmer of an opportunity for Chem Campbell but he can't get to the ball before the Leeds goalkeeper.

Wolves had their moment for the first 20 minutes of this half but they're lack of a killer touch inside the box has been their downfall.

Stuart: Southampton look like they could be in real trouble this season. Don't be surprised if a team inflicts another 9-0 on them.

  13. Postpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

Harry Kane tries to do a Beckham with a goal from the halfway line on opening day as he sees Gavin Bazunu well off his line but the Spurs striker slips and scuffs it nowhere near.

A couple of minutes of stoppage time to go but this one has long been over.

  14. 'Hasn't clicked for Villa'published at 16:49 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Bournemouth 2-0 Aston Villa

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on Football Focus

Villa have been out of sorts. They can't get enough passes together to get comfortable and get themselves good scoring opportunities. They've got some good players but it just hasn't clicked today. Bournemouth have been better.

    Newcastle 2-0 Nottm Forest

Chance for a late third for Newcastle as sub Sean Longstaff plays a ball across the face of the six-yard box that's just too far for Callum Wilson. He just about reaches it at the far post but can only steer into the side netting.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Leeds 2-1 Wolves

Wolves make a change as they look to try and snatch something with five minutes to go. Hwang Hee-chan is replaced by Chem Campbell.

  18. QUADRUPLE SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

Four subs for Tottenham as they cruise into the final few minutes of this one.

Clement Lenglet and Yves Bissouma on for their debuts. Lucas Moura and Rodrigo Bentancur on too.

Just before that, Harry Kane sent Son Heung-min through on goal but he curled straight at Gavin Bazunu.

Southampton just want the final whistle here, although Romain Perraud lashes a chance for a consolation over.

Willem: Well deserved - Aaronson has been Leeds' best player today.

Dean: Brendan Aaronson is some player, Leeds have a Baller!

  20. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Leeds 2-1 Wolves

It isn't a debut goal for Brenden Aaronsen, however, as it has now gone down as a Rayan Ait-Nouri own goal.
