We'll be back for more of the same tomorrow, starting with an Edinburgh derby at noon, with Dundee United v Livingston to follow.

  2. 'A lot of positives' for Malky Mackaypublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Ross County 1-3 Celtic

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells BBC Scotland: "I was really pleased with the game plan and that the players stuck to it.

"I don't really think Celtic broke us down too many times and I've said to them this is a brand new group testing themselves against a side in the Champions League.

"We adapted to what Celtic threw at us, I thought we did okay.

"With 15-20 minutes to go we got a lot of the ball on the break, on the transition, we were a bit wasteful with it and then its five or six minutes to go and they get their second goal

"There's a lot to be looking at positively for us in the coming weeks."

  3. 'Good start at home important for Aberdeen'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Aberdeen 4-1 St Mirren

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin speaks to BBC Scotland: "I've not been standing here as manager too often after a 4-1 victory in the league. It was important to get off to a good start at home. Last Sunday was difficult, but it was a great reaction from the players.

"Some fantastic goals, some decent build up play, some good possession. We probably should have had another two or three goals in the second half. Miovski is disappointed in there, to not have scored a hat-trick. We should have done it a bit quicker. All in all, I'm delighted.

"Even at eleven-v-eleven we were dominating the ball, as you would expect. I've played against ten men myself in the past, and it's not always quite as straightforward as my players made it look. It can be difficult to break down a solid back line and a compact midfield.

"Yes it's 4-1 but it should have been six or seven realistically."

  4. 'St Mirren not getting rub of the green'published at 17:47 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Aberdeen 4-1 St Mirren

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "There's very little in the game for 22 minutes. To come here and play with ten men for seventy odd minutes... it's hard enough with eleven. It makes it an uphill task. It's a double punishment. After that, we showed character in the second half and got into a little.

"Two of the goals for me were very preventable. The second goal was a cross into the box that we don't defend properly. The fourth goal, we let the centre-forward turn. We can look for reasons, but there's things we can control better as well.

"Declan (Gallagher) insists that it hit his chest. I haven't seen it so it would be wrong of me to comment on it.

"The second and fourth goals aren't because we had ten men. We know that as a group. We could have defended that a lot better. We could have stayed in the game longer, they looked edgy at 3-1, but we concede the fourth and it's all over.

"I can't ask any more from them in terms of attitude and application in the last two games. They've given absolutely everything. They're a brilliant bunch of boys. We haven't had that rub of the green, that lady luck that you need sometimes."

  5. Van Bronckhorst 'very pleased' with Rangers winpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "Very pleased. It's always a very tough game when you play against opposition who would make it difficult for you to create a lot of space.

"We were having problems a little bit with creating chances. When you keep pushing, keep pushing, eventually the space will come in the second half.

"It's very important for the strikers (Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos to score), for their confidence and also for Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo to get an assist."

    Quote Message

The energy and effort was there for Rangers, working hard for each other, winning second balls. It wasn't pretty but the strikers scored and it's a clean sheet. Steven Davis was pulling everything together. He's still the real deal

  7. Celtic did not give in to frustration - Postecogloupublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Ross County 1-3 Celtic

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou tells BBC Scotland: “I'm really happy with the result and the performance.

"It's a difficult place to come but I thought the players were outstanding at controlling the game and minimising their threats.

"We obviously got challenged in the second half when they scored but our response to that was excellent and we fully deserved the victory."

On his sides lack of goals at the interval, he adds: "Their keeper's pulled off some great saves but it’s difficult - when the other team park 10 men in their box - to find some space, so I thought we did well. I thought we controlled the game well.

"I don't think we were frustrated at all, we minimised their threat, they scored from a corner. Our play was really good, it was a matter of time for the goals to come and thankfully they came."

On goal-scoring debutant Moritz Jenz, he added: "His overall performance was really good, he's fitting in well and training really well. II's great for him to get his goal. He's very dominant in the air so hopefully it's the first of many."

  8. McInnes encouraged by 'decent' Killie displaypublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "First port of call when you come to Rangers is to try and frustrate.

"I thought we were okay in the first half. I know Tom Lawrence hit the bar. Apart from that, I don't remember Sam Walker making too many saves.

"We make a tackle and play it right into Colak's path, which is disappointing. The goal that they get to give them impetus came from our own mistake.

"There's got to be a realism here. A couple of months ago, we're trying to get this team out of the Championship, Rangers are competing in a Europa League final. There is a gulf there.

"We had some good moments in the game but, unfortunately for us, not enough. You'd have to say Rangers deserve to win. I thought we were decent for long spells and I'm delighted with the players' efforts."

Former Scotland forward on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

Malky Mackay is an experienced manager and he has got his team organised. He wants to use his wide men to create and he'll be happy with the performance. I think Ross County will do really well this season

  10. 'Great spirit in a new team' - Davidsonpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Motherwell 1-2 St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson on BBC Radio Scotland: "Again, we concede from a set-play which we did last week. First-half we played really well, we looked to get out and play, and we scored a really good goal.

"Second-half we started sloppily, and the game ebbed and flowed. We defended our box well up until the last minutes and I thought it was going to be one of those days.

"There are only one or two people from last year’s team, it’s a new team, a new build, I saw a great spirit and togetherness there. I’m delighted Stevie has come on and got us the three points.

"We've signed players with ability, great experience in this league. There are a lot of positives there."

It was mayhem when Stevie May poked in the late winner. The St Johnstone players were going mad, you could see how much it meant to them. Callum Davidson deserves a glass of wine tonight because he's not had many good Saturdays of late.

  12. Morelos on the bench again on Tuesday?published at 17:17 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    FT: Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnock

The return of Alfredo Morelos was a welcome sight for Rangers, who must try and overturn a 2-0 deficit against Union SG at Ibrox on Tuesday.

Is he ready to start that Champions League qualifier after five months on the sidelines?

"It's a difficult one," says Sportsound pundit Rory Loy. "Colak scored his goal, that will help his confidence, and I would go with him. You don't want to risk Morelos.

"If it's not going well on the night, Morelos can come off the bench again.

"I would be tempted to bring in Scott Arfield, because you always know what you're getting from him."

Agree with Rory? Let's see those thumbs...

  18. FULL-TIME Aberdeen 4-1 St Mirrenpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

Jim Goodwin recorded his biggest league win as Aberdeen manager against his former club.

They were helped by Declan Gallagher's early red card which gave them a man and goal advantage - as he conceded a penalty in the process of getting sent off.

Bojan Miovski tucked away the spot-kick, and scored a poacher's goal for the second before Leighton Clarkson capped his debut with a thunderous effort from the edge of the area.

Jonah Ayunga gave St Mirren some hope from the penalty spot, but Dons sub Luis Lopes killed that off when he dinked over Trevor Carson to score Aberdeen's fourth.

  20. FULL-TIME Rangers 2-0 Kilmarnockpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

Rangers make it two wins from two as Alfredo Morelos marks his return from long-term injury with a second-half goal.

Antonio Colak fired in his first goal for the club on 51 minutes.

Kilmarnock were well organised in defence but never really threatened to do anything at the other end of the park.
