  1. goal

GOAL Motherwell 0-1 St Johnstonepublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Jamie Murphy

A bolt from the blue! Clinical from St Johnstone.

Ryan McGowan drifts a long ball on to the chest of Theo Bair, who deftly flicks towards the onrushing Jamie Murphy.

The veteran winger takes it in his stride and slots low beyond Liam Kelly from inside the box. A very well-worked goal.

    Bojan Miovski (pen)

The new number nine fires it low to Trevor Carson's left and gives Aberdeen the lead!

A double whammy for Stephen Robinson's men, who will play the rest of this one with ten men.

    Aberdeen 0-0 St Mirren

Penalty for Aberdeen! And Declan Gallagher is off! His Pittodrie return is over after 25 minutes.

Vicente Besuijen's shot hits the post, it comes back to Liam Scales and Gallagher, already booked, blocks it with his arm.

This is a month of must-win games for Aberdeen, with Motherwell, St Johnstone and Livingston coming up. It's a great opportunity for Jim Goodwin

  5. New ball, pleasepublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Motherwell 0-0 St Johnstone

Drey Wright has just cleared the Davie Cooper Stand with a wayward shot. That about sums up the action at Fir Park. No shortage of endeavour. The quality, though? That's another matter...

  6. CLOSE!published at 15:22 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Ross County 0-0 Celtic

Jota bursts into life, driving from the touchline to the edge of the box and flashing a shot towards goal.

Ross County defender Jack Baldwin manages to divert to ball narrowly wide of the post.

  7. Rangers continue to threatenpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Rangers 0-0 Kilmarnock

Malik Tillman wins Rangers a free-kick in a position similar to James Tavernier's match-winning free-kick at Livingston last weekend.

The captain sizes it up but his effort is off target on this occasion.

Moments later, Scott Wright's deflected shot is well blocked by Kilmarnock goalkeeper Sam Walker.

  8. Clarkson on for early Aberdeen debutpublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Aberdeen 0-0 St Mirren

They're still looking slightly slack at the back, but Aberdeen have had their first effort at goal. It's Ylber Ramadani with it, skipping inside and firing a long-distance effort over the bar.

A few moments later, Declan Gallagher is into the book for scything down Hayden Coulson - who has to go off. The St Mirren centre-half, returning north after his summer move, is not a popular figure around Pittodrie.

Leighton Clarkson replaces the injured left-back. Signed at 10am, debut at 3.15pm.

  9. Postpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Motherwell 0-0 St Johnstone

It's been a scrappy old opening in Lanarkshire, very much bearing the look of confidence-shot teams.

We've seen a couple of nervy moments at either end as defenders spray passes carelessly to the feet of opposition players.

And we've seen a yellow card, too, with Melker Hallberg booked for a late challenge as Motherwell broke on the counter.

  11. Postpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Ross County 0-0 Celtic

Some neat edge-of-the-area passing from Celtic results in Jota chipping in cross to no avail.

Ross County are playing some decent football of their own as Ross Callachan splits the Celtic defence with an impressive pass but no runners can latch onto to the ball.

  12. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Rangers 0-0 Kilmarnock

Lots of possession and lots of movement so far from Rangers but they are missing a killer pass.

Kilmarnock are standing firm, happy to frustrate.

Antonio Colak bears down on goal on the right of the box and sends a shot across the face of the Kilmarnock goal. He netted against Rangers from a similar position at Ibrox for Malmo last season.

  13. ouch!

    Ouch!published at 15:09 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Aberdeen 0-0 St Mirren

A dreadful start by Aberdeen as they consistently concede possession to the visitors, who end up winning a corner.

It's floated in by Greg Kiltie and headed off the line by Bojan Miovski, who is crushed between Curtis Main and the goalpost. A harsh welcome to Scottish football for the Macedonian.

  14. Postpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Ross County 0-0 Celtic

David Turnbull threatens as he nearly nestles a whipped ball in the back of the net.

The Celtic midfielder was probably going for a cross but wouldn't have been caring had it crossed the line.

  15. CLOSE!published at 15:07 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Rangers 0-0 Kilmarnock

Certainly a determined start from Rangers with Scott Wright sending Malik Tillman in on goal.

The attacker is forced wide on the right and his shot, which is on target, is blocked by a combination of goalkeeper and defender.

Moments later, Tillman tries to forces his way through in the inside right channel but his pass inside to Antonio Colak is cut out.

  16. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Rangers 0-0 Kilmarnock

With his new bleached locks, Alfredo Morelos will be easy to spot if he does get off the bench later.

  17. CLOSE!published at 15:04 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Motherwell 0-0 St Johnstone

First attempt at Fir Park goes to Motherwell, after former St Johnstone man Sean Goss is crudely cut down on the left edge of the away box.

Kevin van Veen steps up but bends his free-kick narrowly over the bar.

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Here we go.

Goals, please. And plenty of them...

Former Rangers striker for BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

Influential players have left Rangers and now it's up to the new signings to make their mark - and they have to do it pretty quickly. I'm delighted to see Steven Davis back today. He'll pass through the lines and keep the team going

  20. 'Hammell holds all the aces' in Motherwell hotseat racepublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Motherwell v St Johnstone (15:00)

    Brian McLauchlin
    BBC Sport Scotland

Interviews for the vacant Motherwell manager's position took place on Friday. Today, they'll be whittling the list of candidates down to a shortlist. That will consist of no more than four names.

Simo Valakari, a Motherwell player in the 1990s, will be one of them, as will caretaker manager Stevie Hammell. There was huge noise coming from the large Motherwell support in Paisley last weekend, singing 'there's only one Stevie Hammell', after he guided them to a 1-0 win in his first game in charge.

I would suggest Hammell holds all the aces and I wonder if victory today against St Johnstone could do the trick.
