Will Mikel Arteta mark his 100th Premier League game in charge of Arsenal by keeping the Gunners on top of the table?

Arsenal start today with a two-point cushion at the summit after a 100% winning start to the campaign.

Arteta, appointed in December 2019, is the 14th different manager to reach 100 league games in charge of the Gunners.

Only two of the previous 13 have lost their milestone game (Herbert Chapman in 1927, George Swindin in 1960), with the most recent two managers to do so both winning (George Graham in 1988, Arsene Wenger in 1999).

Considering we've not had a goal, the game has been pretty exciting. It has come to life in the last 10 minutes or so. Christian Eriksen is having an influence on the game.

First goal is going to be really key.

Che Adams is a handful. He's putting himself about and is Southampton's biggest threat. United. however, have looked organised at the back. Wonder what Harry Maguire is thinking.

Christian Eriksen delivers a lovely low ball into the box but Bruno Fernandes cannot connect.

Saints counter and Che Adams gets a chance after United's defence opens up.

DSSBrooks: Elanga needs to cut out the diving/playing for free-kicks and generally being useless.

Matt: Leaving Maguire out looks like it's working. Not sure about leaving Ronaldo out. Rashford has done nothing and I'm sure Ronaldo could have done that just as well...

Robin: This game clearly highlights how ineffective Rashford is as a centre forward.

Joe: Still perplexed how Bruno Fernandes gets in this XI and Donny doesn't get a run? JWP all over Bruno at the moment. Not long before his weekly whining begins I suspect.

Southampton are growing into this and Che Adams digs out another attempt. United are having to do a lot more defending than Erik ten Hag would like.

Mic Medeska: I live in the US so not sure how it works over there but has England considered making United’s kit colour illegal and sending them to jail? Viewing on TV is atrocious and criminal!

Mike Bell: How can the Manchester United players possibly see each other against the green pitch wearing those shirts? You'd think that having been once bitten at Southampton they'd have foreseen this one? Seems not.

Nice spell of Southampton possession. Che Adams, looking to make it five goals in three games, heads on to the roof of the net and then a HUGE chance for the hosts.

Armel Bella-Kotchap has the ball at his feet six yards out but he lifts it way over the bar after a corner.

How did he miss that?

Not a lot of happening on the pitch right now so let's talk about United's kit again.

It had all been very sedate in the Southampton sunshine until that goalmouth scramble of the highest order.

Great work from Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu followed up by brave blocks from Kyle Walker-Peters and Armel Bella-Kotchap.

Saints' boss Ralph Hasenhuttl loved that show of commitment.

This game is warming up nicely. United will still be wondering why they are not ahead but Saints look dangerous themselves on the break. I don't think this is going to finish 0-0.

The Reds - winless in three so far - are looking to kick start their season this afternoon against newly promoted Bournemouth, who actually begin the game above them in the table.

Who would have predicted that in the summer?

Craig: This style of play might have worked against Liverpool but I see them struggling today, if they play the same tactics against Southampton. This midfield will get caught out for a goal.

Shaun: A week ago 90% of these players weren’t fit to wear the shirt and now the commentators reckon Man Utd have great strength in depth. Funny old game.

Richard: If Chelsea are insane enough to make a bid for Maguire, surely United have to bite their hand off?

A poor headed clearance by United allows Mohammed Salisu to whip a dangerous cross back into the box but no Saints shirt can connect.
