  1. 'Parker sounded defeated'published at 19:18 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It almost felt like Scott Parker was defeated before the season started. Before the start of the season he said we would have a battle this season, he sounded sorry for himself.

It is a huge task to keep Bournemouth in the Premier League.

  2. 'Parker comments showed inexperience'published at 19:17 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

For a manager to be sacked after four games is very disappointing. What Scott has done, making things public with the recruitment, has been damning in a lot of respects. The owner has stuck a lot of money in to get them to the Premier League, he will have been disappointed.

As a manager you have to be careful not to lose trust from the players, and that the owners who put the money in, you don't rub them up the wrong way. There will be a lot of managers who will feel like Scott, but won't say it. It's a bit of inexperience.

Scott has tested him [Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin] out, last window he had a bit of a go and they brought in £5m of players. He thought it was the right time to do it, he played his cards and played them in the wrong way.

  3. Hudson-Odoi excited by Leverkusen movepublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Southampton v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi completed a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen earlier today and he said that the combination of challenging himself overseas and playing Champions League football was "really exciting".

"That combination is really attractive and I'm keen to get to know the club, the fans and the Bundesliga."

Chelsea have the option to recall Hudson-Odoi in January.

  4. 'This week is a nightmare'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

To have games this week is a nightmare. You've got to concentrate on trying to win a game, but you've got players coming in, coming out. It's the most stressful of any week in the season.

  5. Sterling to shine against Saints?published at 19:12 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Southampton v Chelsea (19:45 BST)

Raheem Sterling got his first Chelea goals at the weekend, scoring twice as the Blues beat Leicester 2-1.

This game perhaps couldn't have come at a better time for him to continue that run because he has been directly involved in 11 Premier League goals against Saints (scoring seven and assisting four).

Only versus West Ham (14 goal involvements) does he have a better record.

  7. Sutton's predictionpublished at 19:10 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Fulham v Brighton (19:30 BST)

For this week's fixtures, Chris Sutton is up against Tom Dowse, guitarist with post-punk band Dry Cleaning, and an Arsenal fan.

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

Brighton have had a really good start to the season, I think this one will be tight but I think Brighton will edge it and keep their run going.

The question is, will they be able to cope with Aleksandar Mitrovic? If they can, then I can see a Brighton win and another clean sheet for them.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-1

Tom's prediction: Fulham started the season so well against Liverpool on the opening weekend but the question is can they - and Mitrovic - maintain that? Brighton boss Graham Potter is one of my favourite managers, who is very smart and always gets his teams playing together. He will surely get a chance at a bigger club soon and I'd back him to edge this one. 0-1

  8. Everton should 'bite Chelsea's hand off'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Leeds v Everton (20:00 BST)

Everton should "bite Chelsea's hand off" if reports suggesting they have offered £25m plus Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher in return for Anthony Gordon are true, believes the Telegraph's Jim White.

The Toffees have already rejected two Chelsea bids for Gordon, but speculation is rife the Blues will make another attempt to prize the 21-year-old winger away before Thursday's transfer deadline.

“If you’re Everton and Frank Lampard and that is what’s being offered, I suggest you bite their hand off," White told the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast. I would have thought this is the best offer you’re going to get.

“Everton need a striker and Dominic Calvert-Lewin - a great player when he is around - is almost perpetually injured, and he's not going to be back for a month or so.

"Broja is good and raw - he needs a bit of work but I think there's real potential there. Gallagher is an excellent player - he was superb for Crystal Palace last season - but it's not really worked out for him at Chelsea.

"It's one of of the oddities of Chelsea. They produce more young players than anyone else, a real production line of talent, but they don’t seem to trust them.

"OK, there's Mason Mount and Reece James, but look at Billy Gilmour, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Gallagher...they are willing to get rid of them without giving them a decent run in the side. Is Anthony Gordon really an upgrade? I'm not sure.

"But if Chelsea are prepared to hand Everton two shiny talents created in their own academy, plus £25m, that’s an extraordinary deal."

  9. Lampard trusts 'hard-working' Gordon as Holgate set for spell outpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Leeds v Everton (20:00 BST)

Anthony Gordon and Frank LampardImage source, Getty Images

Everton boss Frank Lampard says Anthony Gordon would see "a different side" to him if he refused to play in a fixture in a bid to force through a move to Chelsea.

Gordon has been the subject of interest from the Blues, who may yet make another offer for him before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The likes of Wesley Fofana at Leicester and Willy Boly at Wolves have not featured in recent matches after being linked with moves.

Lampard said: "Anthony wouldn't, shouldn't, couldn't do that with me. If he did try and sit out a game he'd see a different side to me.

"No doubt about that and I think he knows that. I'm not playing the hard one, it's just that it would be so alien from what I'd expect from him. I just know that's not him.

"At the same time he's not a robot and all this attention is difficult. I understand that, I was that ambitious young player.

"That's the beauty of Anthony. Hard-working. He wants to be better. He wants to do what he did (on Saturday), which is score goals, run for this team, and that's why he's a delight to work with. So there was never any idea that Anthony would act that way."

Gordon will be in Everton's squad for Tuesday's trip to Leeds, as will new signing Neal Maupay.

Mason Holgate will miss several weeks with a knee injury sustained in Saturday's draw at Brentford, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure remain out.

“Mason opened up his knee and felt some pain so we're going to scan it in the next day or so," said Lampard.

"The feeling is it'll be weeks, as a maximum, we hope."

  10. Struijk growing into left-back rolepublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Leeds v Everton (20:00 BST)

    Pascal StruijkImage source, Getty Images

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk says he can feel himself growing into the left-back role he has moved into in recent games.

Struijk, 23, has played ever minute in the league for the Whites so far this season but has moved into the left-back berth having operated largely as a centre-back last term.

He feels the transition has been "pretty good".

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds he said: "In the beginning I had to get used to the way of moving and tactics that the gaffer wants. I am getting more used to it. I seem to find my way better each time.

"I am enjoying it so far. The last few games finding my rhythm in a new position is really good for me.

"Whenever I play I always try to do my best. If that is at left-back or centre-back, I just try to stay in the team. This is the goal for every player. I just try to give 100% every single game."

Leeds make one change to the team which lost their first game of the season at Brighton as Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra comes into the team in place of Daniel James. Patrick Bamford makes the bench after missing the last two games with a groin injury.

Leeds XI: Meslier, Kristensen, Koch, Llorente, Struijk; Adams, Roca, Sinisterra, Aaronson, Harrison, Rodrigo

Subs: Klaesson, Forshaw, Bamford, Summerville, James, Gelhardt, Drameh, Greenwood, Klich

Everton make one forced change to the team which drew at Brentford. Mason Holgate is injured so Tom Davies returns to midfield which could see Frank Lampard's team revert to four at the back.

What is a surprise is there is no Neal Maupay after his £15m move from Brighton. He was expected to be in the squad at least.

Everton XI: Pickford, Patterson, Coady, Tarkowski Mykolenko, Davies, Onana, Iwobi, Gordon, McNeil, Gray

Subs: Begovic, Keane, Allan, Gomes, Coleman, Vinagre, Rondón, Mills, Welch

Marco Silva has lost his last five Premier League games against English managers, suffering defeats to Dean Smith, Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder, Sean Dyche and Graham Potter.

The last manager to lose more consecutively was Mick McCarthy with Sunderland between 2003 and 2005 (10 defeats in a row).

These sides had two goalless draws last season but what are the chances of it being 0-0 again? Brentford were good against Everton at the weekend and probably deserved to win, while Crystal Palace have had a decent start to the season. I think it will be a draw again, but a scoring one.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

Tom's prediction: This is a hard one to call because I like both managers, and their teams are always well organised too. 2-1

    Fulham v Brighton (19:30 BST)

    Fulham

    Drew Heatley, Fulhamish, external:

Our unbeaten start has come to an end - but Marco's boys went down fighting at the Emirates.

In previous campaigns, that game would have - and did, actually - ended 4-1 or more. But Silva has built a stronger and more cohesive side than we’ve seen before – and we’re not even at full strength.

It’s not too dramatic to suggest that the next four or five days will go some way to determining how our season will pan out.

Tonight we host Brighton at the Cottage. Graham Potter’s side have had a heck of a start to the season, but there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t get a result if we keep up the level of performances we’ve shown in our first four games.

Then there’s transfer deadline day. It’s typically a manic one at Motspur Park - Tony Khan and his team spend the summer haggling for the best deals, and then seemingly throw all that caution out of the window in a crazy final few hours.

Let’s hope that we do the business we need to and don’t upset what is a pretty happy apple cart.

What a time to be a Brighton fan!

If they beat Fulham tonight they will end the day as Premier League leaders for the first time in their history.

    Nice.

They are currently on a nine-match unbeaten run - their longest streak in the top flight - and have won five of their last seven away matches in the league.

Brighton's total of three clean sheets is also the highest in the Premier League this season.

  18. Team news - No changes for Fulhampublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Fulham v Brighton (19:30 BST)

Fulham manager Marco Silva names an unchanged starting side from the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

Terry Ablade replaces Shane Duffy, who is ineligible to play against his parent club, on the hosts' bench.

Subs: Rodak, Mbabu, Diop, Chalabah, Cairney, Francois, Harris, Ablade, Stansfield

There is one change for Brighton: Enock Mwepu makes his first start of the season in place of Danny Welbeck, who starts on the bench.

Summer signing Julio Enciso is in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time, replacing fellow forward Evan Ferguson on the bench for the Seagulls.

Brighton XI: Sanchez, Veltman, Dunk, Webster, March, Mac Allister, Caicedo, Estupinan, Mwepu, Gross, Trossard

  19. 'A pivotal few days - and potentially a brighter future - ahead'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 30 August 2022

    Leeds v Everton (20:00 BST)

    Mike Richards, Unholy Trinity, external

After picking up two points from our opening four games, you can understand the slight nervousness among some Everton fans about another potential season of struggle.

With gaps still evident within the squad, the final few days of the summer transfer window will be pivotal in relation to the direction the campaign takes.

With smart acquisitions already on board - and the most recent addition, Neal Maupay, set for his debut against Leeds - there is a more balanced look to the squad.

However, manager Frank Lampard would have looked at his bench on Saturday and not been too enamoured with the options available.

The flexibility to not only bring on like-for-like quality, but also to change formation and move away from five at the back, will be vital as the season progresses.

There’s a hope that the Idrissa Gueye deal can be resurrected, as well as further attacking options brought in. Combined with the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, brighter days could be on the horizon.

Chelsea make three changes following Saturday's win over Leicester.

Cesar Azpilicueta replaces Reece James, who is not named in the squad, Kalidou Koulibaly returns from suspension in place of Trevoh Chalobah and Hakim Ziyech - linked with a move away from the club - replaces Conor Gallagher following the England midfielder's red card.

Chelsea XI: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Koulibaly, Silva, Cucurella, Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Mount, Sterling, Ziyech, Havertz.
