Brendan Rodgers said there is "no magic formula" for his side maintaining confidence after their winless start.

The Foxes have picked up just a single point from their opening four matches and are currently bottom of the Premier League.

However, Rodgers believes that it's "a matter of time" before a win comes with their performances deserving "more points than we have gotten".

"This league is all about consistency, if you can find consistency in the performance level, you can get consistent results" he said.

"I think we should have more points than we have. We have been in good positions.

"At the weekend I felt we should have had something. You have got to be able to turn those performances consistently into points. It's not been an ideal start and it is very early but we would have hoped to have made a better start.

“I think what is important at this stage is that for the players there is clarity in terms of the game idea, the plan and then reinforcing there is no magic formula.

"It's based around hard work, hard work will give you the confidence and from that you have a better chance to succeed.

"It's just working hard every single day, keeping things as simple as possible and obviously you get a little bit of luck."

  2. 'Window closing will help Leicester win again' - O'Neillpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

Leicester v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Leicester will get over their early-season slump once the transfer window has shut, believes former Foxes manager Martin O'Neill.

City sit bottom of the Premier League with only one point from their opening four matches and host Manchester United on Thursday, the deadline day for signing new players.

O'Neill believes the protracted saga of Wesley Fofana's move to Chelsea and continued speculation over other key players is among "a number of mitigating factors" in Leicester's poor start.

"First of all you have players who want to leave the club, and almost sitting out as a one-man strike," O'Neill told BBC 5 Live Breakfast.

"Fofana has not played the last couple of games because he wants to get this move to Chelsea, and that can be very debilitating.

"It’s also down to expectations at the football club. It’s not too long since Brendan Rodgers won the FA Cup with Leicester. These are difficult times at this minute but I believe they can get over it.

"I think they cannot wait until transfer deadline day is over, one way or another, and they can settle down and start winning matches again."

  4. 'Three points keeps the momentum building'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

Leicester v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Former Manchester United winger Ben Thornley thinks a trophy should be within their reach this season after a much better week at Old Trafford brought six points against Liverpool and Southampton.

"They need to use these results as a springboard," he told BBC Radio Manchester. "That performance against Liverpool has to be the benchmark for how they behave and approach matches.

"Play like that and few teams will beat them. They've got to be aiming to finish in the top four and I don't think winning the Europa League or the FA Cup is beyond them."

After Erik ten Hag named an unchanged line-up for the win at St Mary's, Thornley insisted high-profile players on the bench will still be required this season.

"It's imperative you have a squad, particularly in a season as condensed as this one," he said.

"For Harry Maguire, it doesn't matter that he's the captain. It's not a pre-requisite to play. At the moment, Ten Hag has found his best centre-back partnership and he's been vindicated in that.

"I think United will continue to improve under this manager and three points certainly helps build momentum."

Cristiano Ronaldo is on the bench as he stays at the club despite a summer of speculation while new £82m signing Antony is unavailable.

  8. What else do Man Utd need on deadline day?published at 19:39 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

Leicester v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

We asked if you'd like to see any further signings from United before the transfer window ends.

Here are some of your comments:

Andy: De Jong on loan would still be a decent signing.

Samuel: I really think Manchester United need a striker and one more quality midfielder to complete the team.

Charlie: With Antony coming in, United have a strong side, but I still think we need a number nine as Ronaldo's our only striker and he's almost 38. Personally, I'd go for Ivan Toney. He's got Premier League experience and scores 15 goals a season in a middle of the table team. He also won't be too much, maybe £30-45m. I think he'd be amazing.

Matthew: United have had a decent transfer window, even if we have had to overpay for a couple of players. I would have been happy for Ronaldo to leave but happy if he stays. Another right-back would have been welcomed, and missing out on De Jong is a blow.

Rhys: I'd like to see Ronaldo leave - we need players who actually want to fight for the shirt, not just sit around getting paid ridiculous amounts of money! Happy with the signings but I just hope the crazy fee for Antony isn't going to pile the pressure on him even more.

  9. 'Every coach that works with Antony doesn't want to let him go'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

Leicester v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

    Marcus Alves
    BBC Sport

A much stronger footballer now, having gained seven kilos of muscle mass during the pandemic, Antony is set to be included in Brazil's squad for the World Cup in November.

Hailed by the Selecao boss Tite for his "velvet feet", he has also won over Neymar with his pace and dribbling skills. The PSG superstar even defended him during a South American qualifier when the winger was asked to pass the ball more. "No, let the kid dribble and do his own thing!" Neymar reacted on the pitch.

Antony has a similar confidence in the United manager Erik ten Hag after the pair worked together for two seasons at Ajax and he credits the Dutchman for his transformation into a much more clinical player.

They will have to conquer Old Trafford now to justify the price tag that made the Brazilian United's second most expensive signing.

Former Sao Paulo executive director Alexandre Passaro said: "It may seem like he's just a 22-year-old boy, that things are moving too fast for him and he doesn't have much experience. But I can tell you one thing: every coach that works with him doesn't want to let him go. It has happened with Ten Hag, but with other coaches in Brazil like Andre Jardine and Tite.

"They have a different perception of Antony because they know the phenomenon that he is in the daily work, the absurd things that he does with the ball, how talented he is.

"He's the kind of player that delivers what you need and gives you no trouble. It would obviously be highly unlikely that a team like Manchester City or Tottenham paid the same money for him, but Ten Hag knows what he's getting."

  10. 'This is an incredible moment for me' - Antony completes £82m movepublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

New £82m Manchester United man Antony has described his move from Ajax as "an incredible moment in my career" and says he is "joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world."

"I’m thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them," added the 22-year-old.

The Brazil forward reunites with boss Erik ten Hag after shining under him in the Netherlands.

"Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development," he said. "His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester."

Antony scored 24 goals and supplied 22 assists in 82 appearances for the Dutch giants. He also has two goals in nine caps for Brazil.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says his club will not buy anyone else before Thursday’s transfer deadline once the signings of Antony and Martin Dubravka are complete.

Ten Hag opted not to discuss Antony’s impending arrival from Ajax because "the paperwork is not done".

However, he outlined why United needed more attacking players and underlined his belief Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford.

"For this window, it will be the end," he said.

"You always have to be alert at a top club. But we will go from September to minimum January with this squad.

"In the offensive department we needed to strengthen the squad. Offensive players fatigue quicker. They have to run more with high intensity."

Asked specifically whether Ronaldo will stay, Ten Hag said: "It is clear. We need quality players. You need more to cover all the games."

After losing their opening two Premier League games, Ten Hag is pleased by his side's response with their back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Southampton.

He said: "I see it as a start, we have a good base. This is the minimum of what we have to bring.

"I was happy to see the turn and we have to keep that, to keep the spirit and winning mentality because you need it if you want to have a successful season."

  12. 'United fans must trust Ten Hag's recruitment wisdom'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

Leicester v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

In an age where the market is inflated to an all-time high, Manchester United fans can't worry about transfer fees and must place faith in Erik ten Hag's operations.

Following Ed Woodward's exit, there has been a focus on creating a more streamlined recruitment structure - cutting off long-term scouts and negotiation figures and leaving football decisions to John Murtough and Ten Hag.

The latter has overridden club recommendations throughout this first window as manager, with all five signings firmly recruited at his request. And if the early signs from United's summer are proof of anything, it's to trust his judgement and vision.

Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen have enjoyed impressive starts to life at Old Trafford; Casemiro will no doubt follow suit. Antony bears pressure as the second most expensive acquisition in the club's history, but he's another identified in line with Ten Hag's clear philosophy.

The Red Devils are playing at nowhere near the capacity they will do under their new Dutch boss, but have shown real promise in two different wins against Liverpool and Southampton this past week. HIS signings have been individual highlights.

It all falls under that familiar motto: trust the process.

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

Manchester United are light years behind Manchester City and Liverpool in terms of their organisation. They are always behind the ball and playing catch-up. If you compare their recruitment to City and Liverpool in terms of the process and strategy, they are still way off.

  14. 'Still question marks about Man Utd recruitment'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

High pressing is not Casemiro's game. It is a brilliant signing but will he change the way Manchester United play? Anthony is not going to get you 20 goals a season, but will provide service for Cristiano Ronaldo, who is a great header of the ball. There are certain signs Manchester United are improving, but there are still one or two question marks about their recruitment.

You can hear Brendan Rodgers' frustration with every word. About not having a settled team, saying things will settle once the transfer window closes. In my opinion, that was aimed at players who felt they might get a move - that they have not been showing the application he wants. Once the window closes, those players know this is where they are playing their football and need to apply themselves. That is the environment Rodgers is hoping for.

11 April 2015, about 16:50, and Leicester City were bottom of the Premier League.

One minute later, Jamie Vardy scored the third goal at West Brom and, after 19 weeks, the Foxes jumped to 18th and would go on to perform probably the greatest of great escapes.

On Sunday, some 2,697 days later - or seven years, four months and 18 days - Leicester again found themselves propping up the Premier League.

Nigel Pearson lost his job as manager for off-the-pitch reasons in 2015 and was replaced by Claudio Ranieri, who then achieved the impossible dream and gave hope to smaller clubs everywhere.

Even after winning the league, Claudio was sacked the following season with Leicester still in the Champions League but 17th in the top flight and facing possible relegation.

OK, that was February and we've now only played four games, but the 5000-1 title triumph was where it may have started to go wrong - big wages paid to average players who didn’t perform.

We trust Top to sort out this mess, and his current actions may stop us ending up in a Barcelona or Leeds United situation - but if things don’t improve by the World Cup, Brendan Rodgers may have to start looking over his shoulder.

  17. 'A very challenging window' - Rodgerspublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

Leicester v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has opened up about the disruption the current transfer window has caused.

"Any environment where you can develop has to be stable," said Rodgers.

"Our environment and stability is not there for various reasons. That will change when the window closes but this window has been a very challenging one.

"There's no question about that. Players who maybe thought they were moving on are not, us hoping to get players in to improve and help and obviously that hasn't been done.

"Then you have players in the last year of their contract.

"What is important is collective, is so important. We have talented players but it doesn't count for anything if you are not together.

"That is always something you have to enforce as a coach. Once the window shuts it will settle everything down."

It’s an easy place to begin for Leicester - what a shambles of a window.

Our skipper and number-one goalie Kasper Schmeichel leaves us three days before the Premier League starts, and it has shown that Danny Ward is not up to the task and lacks the experience.

Wesley Fofana spitting his dummy out of the pram, basically crying for a move out of the club - I, and most Leicester fans, would never want to see him in a Leicester shirt ever again. We’re glad he’s got the move to Chelsea so he can go and take his ego elsewhere. No player is bigger than the club.

Overall, it has been shocking by Leicester - no money coming into the club, players on too high wages for other clubs to want them. It will be our downfall and, I’ve got to be honest, I am disappointed by the club and owners with how they’re handling business.

Finally, on deadline day, we are being linked with some new players, but it is too little too late at this point. Let's hope for a good season, but it’s been a shock horror start, and the table proves that...

Leicester players will have come in thinking the squad will develop and they have drifted a touch further away every season. That will have had an effect on the squad. They will have seen the decline they are in and they are not seeing reinforcements coming in. That's difficult to take.
