    Simon Stone

Within the space of a couple of minutes, Diogo Dalot twice, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo were all guilty of mis-placed passes under no pressure.

The home side need to sharpen up.

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Referee Craig Pawson waves away Callum Wilson's claims for a penalty as he broke into the penalty area and went down under a challenge by Raphael Varane.

Is VAR going to look at this? It backs up the referee's call.

    Ouch!

Fabian Schar takes a nasty tumble off the pitch after sliding in to deny Cristiano Ronaldo a chance to cut the ball back inside the six-yard box. It's quite the drop, and he lands awkwardly, but he's good to continue after a little check over.

Alistair: Looking at the fixtures... Southampton and Forest to come, this could be one heck of a start for Arsenal. 11 wins from 12 games is genuinely doable. Easily the best Arsenal team in the last 10 years.

    Mason Mount

A disaster for England World Cup hopeful Tyrone Mings in front of the watching Gareth Southgate.

There looks to be no danger when a high ball is played into the penalty area, but centre-half Mings gets his header completely wrong.

All he can do is head it into the path of Mason Mount, who provides a lovely finish to send it past Emiliano Martinez and Chelsea lead.

Newcastle are having to soak up some early pressure at Old Trafford, with Antony and Jadon Sancho both providing plenty of width for the home side who are knocking the ball around nicely in the opening period.

Referee Chris Kavanagh raced over to his assistant and the fourth official to discuss what their next steps are. Leeds were waiting to take a throw-in but have been told to stand down. The supporters in the ground don't understand what's going on. Some of the players have started having a kickabout to stay warm.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Chelsea

England boss Gareth Southgate is at Villa Park today so a good time for Tyrone Mings, Jacob Ramsey, Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount to have a good game.

It's a bright start for the hosts with Douglas Luiz, who has just signed a new deal at Villa, shooting from the edge of the penalty area, with Kepa Arrizabalaga saving the strike.

Manchester United were yet to give the ball away as the hosts worked the ball efficiently upfield, and it culminates in Fred firing wide from the edge of the box with the game's first opportunity.

  13. Sterling starts at right wing-backpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

Steven Gerrard and Graham Potter have taken vastly different paths to get to this point, but it's the player who made his name Stoke, York and Macclesfield who has the upper hand today with greater resources at his disposal.

That might help with the tactically-flexible approach Potter often goes for.

Today's example appears to have Raheem Sterling start at right wing-back. He played left wing-back in Potter's first game against RB Salzburg.

Would be a massive upset if Leeds win today. Can see Jesus scoring a couple and Xhaka unleashing a long range beast. 3-1 sounds right.

Interesting test for Arsenal today. They lost against Manchester United but they played well. There was talk about how they would get on against Spurs and Liverpool. Well they answered questions in those games very well! This is a different set of questions against Leeds.

Tom: @DaddyWhoGames1 while I agree with the sentiment - today is the first game where Dubravka CANNOT play - as NUFC are his host club.

HUGE game today - and opportunity to really prove our progress. Howay the Lads.
