  1. Ronaldo starting to get irritatedpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Simon Stone

Cristiano Ronaldo is starting to get irritated.

He was ignored by Jadon Sancho when he was pleading for a pass earlier and now Fred ploughed on with his run and eventually the move petered out, with Ronaldo calling for a pass.

As United lost possession, Ronaldo swung a right-footed air shot in frustration.

Sven Botman makes a great tackle, sliding across to halt Antony's progress on the right, but the Newcastle United defender takes a knock to the head from the Brazilian in the process. We'll have a bit of a break as Botman's checked over.

  3. Mount gets his 25th Premier League goalpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    Aston Villa 0-1 Chelsea

Mason Mount has now scored 25 Premier League goals for Chelsea, the most of any player for the club since his first season in the competition (2019-20).

Aged 23 years, 279 days, he's the second-youngest player to 25 PL goals for Chelsea, after only Eden Hazard (23 years 271 days).

    Romain Perraud

Jarrod Bowen tries to reach the ball as it comes across to Romain Perraud in the middle but the referee was in the way.

West Ham are appealling furiously but Perraud takes the shot and it deflects heavily and nestles into the bottom left corner.

It goes to VAR but they wave it away. Wow. Drama.

Liz: People suggested the ref should just get on with it without VAR. You can't just magically have one game without it, with no agreement from all the clubs, the FA, the PL blah blah. What if there's a nailed-on pen, missed? Put 50p in the meter, Leeds.

Steve: Can't teams just agree to play football old style with refs and linos having to make their own decisions? VAR and refs are a joke.

  7. CLOSE!published at 14:19 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Kyle Walker-Peters loses possession just outside the Southampton box.

Gianluca Scamacca is found in the middle and he has space to shoot. He thumps it towards the top right corner and it's not too far away!

    Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

Two shots for Manchester United so far, neither on target, but the home side have had much more of the ball so far.

Newcastle have their first attempt of the match, as Jacob Murphy rolls a harmless shot into the path of David de Gea.

Oooh. This is a smart save.

Mohamed Elyounoussi slides in Che Adams. He uses his strength to shrug off the defender but he's denied by the foot of goalkeeper Lucasz Fabianski.

This is a good spell from the Saints.

Rachel T: Lovely assist from Mings. Only problem is they’re not playing for England

Teflon Don: Well, Gerrard asked for headline makers, Mings just delivered the headline.

Jack: In fairness Gerrard’s tactics/lack of can’t really be blamed for that goal.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORK - Aston Villapublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    Aston Villa 0-1 Chelsea

So close to an equaliser for the hosts. John McGinn stands up a cross from close to the deadball line and Leon Bailey, under pressure, can only head against the crossbar from close range.

Bailey had scored an equaliser for Villa last month when they were 1-0 behind against another of the top teams, Manchester City, but can't repeat the trick here.

Jadon Sancho whips a right-footed effort from outside the box wide of the target after a swift Manchester United counter.

I've just seen a replay of Callum Wilson's penalty appeal and you can see why he believed it should be given. Raphael Varane may have been a little bit fortunate there.

This is only logical [suspending play] if the rule is that you are not allowed to play without VAR. Maybe the electrical issue is wider than VAR. The lights above us flickered on and off above us so it could be something to do with a power/electrical surge.

Jon: They should play on without VAR like the good old days.

The players have been called off the pitch at Elland Road and are heading down the tunnel.

The stadium announcer has just informed supporters that due to a "powercut" the game has had to be paused.

"We are working very hard to resolve these technical issues," they add.

We could be a while here...

We'll let you know if there's any more developments at Elland Road.

The game was kicked off but quickly stopped within minutes due to technical issues.

People in the stands have started to head into the concourse area to get a drink and some food.
