What a chance for Liverpool. James Milner takes a corner, it comes back to him on the right and his cross finds Virgil van Dijk who was onside, five yards out with only Dean Henderson to beat.

But Van Dijk instead looks to head it across goal for Roberto Firmino but it is well ahead of his team-mate, when the defender had a glorious chance to score himself.

For a few moments it looked like Mo Salah had done something serious to himself. He went down in the box clutching his back with Scott McKenna close to him but it was not a foul. Salah's team-mates beckoned the physio to come on and, after treatment, he is able to carry on.

Good work from Liverpool. James Milner plays a on-two with Harvey Eliiott but excellent covering from Cheikhou Kouyate sends it behind for a corner.

Serge: What a superb player Fabio Carvalho is going to be.

Paul: Whats happened to Fabinho? He doesn't look like he can run or tackle anymore. Used to be the most physical player in the team, now he gets done regularly.

Mohamed Salah is down on the turf and needing some medical treatment.

There's not much in the challenge as he was trying to hold off Scott McKenna, but some anxious moments for the Liverpool fans.

Harvey Elliott does well to create a space for Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian can shoot low at goal, but it is always one Dean Henderson should save and does.

The game's getting better and Forest's Jesse Lingard, on his left foot, strikes powerfully and Alisson dives and hold on to it - good hands.

Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi, a Liverpool Academy product who didn't make a competitive appearance for the Reds, will be keen to impress today and he tries his luck from 20 yards out.

But there's no power on the strike and a waste when passes were on instead.

Forest getting more into this as Serge Aurier plays a pass to Morgan Gibbs-White and he looks to run at the Liverpool defence, until he runs into the wall that is Virgil van Dijk.

At the other end, Fabio Carvalho gets on the end of Harvey Elliott's cross but heads wide.

A first shot on target from Nottingham Forest and it comes for Cheikhou Kouyate, running on to the ball 20 yards out and trying to side-foot one past Alisson.

But the Liverpool goalkeeper sees it coming, there's not enough power on the effort and is able to fall on the shot.

Some warm applause from Jurgen Klopp, but another attack fizzles out and there's not been too much to make the highlights from the opening 18 minutes of this one.

Virgil van Dijk plays a delightful cross-field pass to Harvey Elliott who in turn finds Mohamed Salah on the edge of the penalty area.

He tries to create some space to strike at goal but is crowded out and Forest manage to clear the threat.

Liverpool's James Milner loops a backpass towards his goal and it forces goalkeeper Alisson, showing some strong central-defensive skills, to head it away from danger.

A chance for Liverpool from that second corner as it falls to Roberto Firmino, he gets up above Steve Cook but can't direct the header goalwards, with it going wide.

Henderson has had to make a save now. Harvey Elliott plays a ball over the top and it is a lovely take from Fabio Carvalho before he tries to flick the ball with the outside of his boot past the Forest goalkeeper, who had done well to narrow the angle.

It goes for a corner, which Forest send behind for another one.
