This fixture is a rivalry for the ages.

Nottingham Forest and Liverpool pretty much dominated English and European football between 1978 and 1980, winning three league titles and three European Cups between them in three seasons.

This is the first league meeting between the two clubs since 1999 when a 19-year-old Michael Owen was among the scorers in a 2-2 draw at the City Ground, and an 18-year-old called Steven Gerrard started on the bench.

    Whatever happened to Gerrard?

  10. Ronaldo missing today as punishment for leaving earlypublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

    Chelsea v Manchester United

And this was another of the big stories...

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said there "has to be consequences" after confirming Cristiano Ronaldo refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Ronaldo, 37, left Old Trafford before full-time after leaving the bench and walking down the tunnel in the 89th minute of United's 2-0 win.

He has been dropped for today's game at Chelsea and is training alone.

Asked directly whether Ronaldo refused to come on, Ten Hag said: "Yes."

Ten Hag warned the Portugal international about his conduct in the summer when he left Old Trafford early after being substituted at half-time in a pre-season friendly with Rayo Vallecano. This time he felt he had to act.

"I am the manager, I am responsible for the culture here. I have to set standards and values and have to control them. We are in a team," Ten Hag said.

"After Rayo Vallecano, I said it was unacceptable, but it wasn't just him. The second time there has to be consequences. That is what has happened.

"We miss him tomorrow, that is a miss for us and the squad, but I think it is important for the attitude and mentality of the group and now we have to focus on Chelsea - that is the most important."

  11. Villa objectives 'not achieved' under Gerrard - Purslowpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

As Neil mentioned, this has been one of the biggest stories in the Premier League this week...

Aston Villa have sacked manager Steven Gerrard following Thursday's 3-0 Premier League defeat at Fulham.

Villa have won just twice in the league this season and only sit above the relegation zone on goals scored. First-team coach Aaron Danks will take charge of the team for Sunday's home game against Brentford.

In a statement on Friday, , externalVilla chief executive Christian Purslow said objectives "had not been achieved" under Gerrard.

"The board has come to this decision following a full evaluation of results and performances over the calendar year," he said.

"We were clear when we appointed Steven that we set an objective of continuous improvement but that has not been achieved despite everybody's best efforts and we believe the time is right to make these changes now.

"The process of appointing a new head coach is under way and we will update supporters as soon as possible."

Name a more picturesque scene in the Premier League?

It's a glorious sunny morning by the banks of the River Trent and Nottingham Forest badly need a win after dropping to the bottom of the table following Leicester's win over Leeds on Thursday.

But in a week when Steven Gerrard became the fourth Premier League manager to lose his job this season, Steve Cooper's position is safe for now.

In his 13 months at the helm, Cooper has led Forest from the bottom of the Championship to the top-flight for the first time in 23 years.

Earlier this month he signed a new deal until 2025 after helping repair a fractured relationship between fans and the club.
