The West Ham fans are in good voice, singing their tributes to David Moyes, who has guided the club into the last 16 of European competition for the second successive season.

It is nine years now since Moyes' ill-fated stint as Manchester United manager. He has never won here as an opposition boss. Is today the day?

Marcus Rashford has been one of Manchester United's most improved players this season.

The England man took his tally to the campaign to six with his header against Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday. He is now on 99 career goals for United.

He puts some of the improvement down to Erik ten Hag's arrival.

"The manager’s a joy to work with, really," he said. "Is it hard work? Yes, but I think we are enjoying it and we’re playing better football.

“I feel like when we don't concede goals, we've got a good chance of winning games because we’re creating chances."

  8. 'It doesn’t matter if we don’t play well, we can still get the points'published at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Man Utd v West Ham (16:15 GMT)

Michail Antonio says West Ham's players are growing in confidence after recent results, even when performances haven't been brilliant.

After a poor start which saw them lose five of their first seven Premier League games, David Moyes' side have won three and drawn one of their last five and are up to 10th place.

Antonio told The Footballer's Football podcast: "The boys are buzzing. Being in the relegation zone makes you tense and you need the points.

"Now we are playing, getting wins. There are times when we’re playing well and times when we’re not playing well and getting wins.

"That builds you and gives you that confidence that it doesn’t matter if we don’t play well, we can still get the points. That is massive when it comes to the Premier League."

Asked about the Hammers' aims this season, after last year's seventh-place finish, he added: "Right now, it’s a cliché answer but it is literally winning the next game.

"How badly we started the season, we can’t try and look ahead. With the quality in the Premier League, if you look too far ahead that’s when you could start getting knocked back.

"We’ve also got a European campaign to play in as well where we’ve already qualified, but we need to top the group and get those extra three points now so we don’t have to play an extra two games in January. We don’t need an extra two games in a Premier League season."

  9. Moyes unsure how World Cup will impact West Ham's seasonpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2022

Man Utd v West Ham (16:15 GMT)

David Moyes is unsure whether West Ham can benefit from having fewer players taking part in the World Cup compared to other clubs.

When asked whether the Hammers could hold an advantage over some rivals because their squad may be fresher after the tournament in Qatar, he said: "I think having the World Cup in the middle of the season always has a chance of throwing up strange things.

"I think we are seeing at the moment a lot of teams suffering from too many games [in the past] - 60, sometimes 70 games a season for some clubs is a lot, so I see that as being baggage a lot of clubs are carrying at the moment.

"I think going into the World Cup, the players will have a great experience, they're all looking forward to it and it'll be fabulous for them.

"Will it help some clubs who have fewer players going away? Possibly, but the lift and chance to play a the World Cup will give the players great confidence and a good feeling.

"So the answer to the question is: I don’t really know because we haven’t had a World Cup in this time of the season. So nobody is sure what the outcome will be.

"But no matter what the outcome of the World Cup will be, you are back on 26 December getting ready to start the season again."

Arsenal goalscorer Reiss Nelson: "It was amazing you know, we had a bit of a slow start after the goal but everyone got into the game and it was great to play in.

"Couldn’t have got gone much better than that for me after coming on. Delighted with the goals and the assist. I have been training for my chance and I got it and tried my best to take it."

On Bukayo Saka's injury: "Of course, it is a huge shame for Arsenal and the nation and we will go and check now and see how he is is. He’s a great boy and it’s great to have him in the team.

"We are just trying to do well for the gaffer and the team. We're top now and it's nice, hopefully we can go all the way.

On Pablo Mari: "We found out after the game, it was really bad and unfortunate and some of the lads wished him well on the phone. He is a great guy and we wish him well in his recovery."

    • Manchester United have won their past four Premier League matches against West Ham, their best winning run against the Hammers since an eight-game run between 2008 and 2012.
    • West Ham have lost more away Premier League matches against Manchester United than they have against any other side (21), while the Red Devils have only won more home games against Tottenham (24).
    • Bruno Fernandes has created more chances than any other Manchester United player in the Premier League this season (28), while only Marcus Rashford (25) has had more shots than the Portuguese (23). However, Fernandes has only faced Chelsea (6) more often without scoring in the Premier League than he has West Ham (5).
    • West Ham manager David Moyes has never won away against Manchester United in the Premier League, drawing four and losing 11 of his 15 visits. His sides have scored just 10 goals across these 15 visits, with 40% of those coming in a single 4-4 draw with Everton in April 2012.

Erik ten Hag says Donny van de Beek can play regularly for Manchester United if he stays fit.

The midfielder came on in the second half of United's win over Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday in his first appearance since August.

Ten Hag said: "He was long out. I was happy to give him some minutes because you need that to get in the right form.

"He has to work himself back. He is not even one week in training, same as Harry Maguire, so I was really happy to give them both minutes because we need them in coming weeks."

When asked whether Van de Beek can play under Ten Hag, the United boss said: "When you analyse the season so far then if he was available he should get his chance.

"We need goals and I know Donny is real good in the position to score goals but also he is good in the defensive transition."

Ten Hag was also asked whether Cristiano Ronaldo can work his way into his Premier League side, to which he replied: "I don’t have a Europe team or a Premier League team, I look to the opponent for what we need.

"Now I have to focus on West Ham and then we will pick the team to start but also to have a plan B or plan C in the pocket to win the game. That is what we need, to win games."

Seth: Lingard had the chance to go to West Ham but didn't - only God knows why. He's now having a season to forget! It's Dean Henderson that I feel pity for! Relegation looms for Forest at this rate. The level is too high for Cooper! That new contract was misplaced.

Man Utd v West Ham (16:15 GMT)

Erik ten Hag says he wants to see more goals from his team, but he knows this will take time.

Manchester United have scored 16 Premier League goals this season, fewer than four of the five teams above them in the table.

When asked whether he expects his side to produce numbers similar to Arsenal and Manchester City, Ten Hag said: "Developing a team takes time. You can’t go from zero to 100.

"You need to construct it downstairs, you need development before you go to the top, to the roof. Unfortunately it takes time. I don’t have time, I am the most impatient.

"It’s quite clear, now we are getting better in defending. Players are more and more aware that we have to do it with 11. Also our building up we are improving game by game, now we have to develop our attacking game.

"It is the most difficult part so it takes even more time. You can’t increase the tempo of that process, but I want it."

Man Utd v West Ham (16:15 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Losing defender Raphael Varane to injury is a blow for Manchester United but I think they will cope without him here, even though Gianluca Scamacca is a real threat.

At the other end, it might be a different story. West Ham are a stubborn side, who are in decent form, but I don't think their backline will be good enough to keep United out.

United are making progress under Erik ten Hag but he still has to deal with the distraction of being asked questions about Cristiano Ronaldo the whole time, which must be a nightmare for him. It will probably be the same again after this game, whether Ronaldo plays or not.

Great player that he is, Ronaldo has made it all about himself when really he is just one of the squad. It is quite sad, because he is starting to destroy his legacy at Old Trafford, and he might not be there for much longer.

    Dapz's prediction: 1-2

From a personal point of view, I don't think Arsenal can go all the way but we have to give them the respect they deserve. They are top of the Premier League at this point. If they are top of the league going into the World Cup, why can't they go and win it.

When you've got a young side like this, special things can happen. We've seen it with Man United, the famous quote 'you can't win anything with kids'. Well, this could be another group that prove everyone wrong.
