Newcastle have earned the right to be challenging at the top end of the table. This game will help us realise if they are going to last the course.
Chelsea are in dire need of a win to get themselves back in the top-four mix.
This could be a belter.

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch speaking to Match of the Day: "I'm gutted, I feel like someone has ripped my heart out.
"I thought we had control of the match but then we let it slip.
"There’s obviously positives in there because in our good moments we look like we have quality, but in our bad we still look vulnerable and naive.
"First-half we were tactically sound but we’re not doing what we need to do in close spaces together.
"We defended hard and our challenge is to stay concentrated. We get leads and then we give it away immediately because we don’t stick to our principle. If we can then we can be a good team.
"Mentally the guys have invested so much, there's been ups and downs. We need to gather ourselves, have a break and then come back and keep pushing.
"A little bit of everything needs strengthening, we need to learn to manage the game as a group at all moments.
"The first goal was a foul, the referee should have called a foul on that. I’m not surprised though because we’ve seen it before where they don’t go to the monitor. It’s incredible for me that they don't go."
FT: Bournemouth 3-0 Everton
Bournemouth
Bournemouth interim manager Gary O'Neil: "Excellent with and without the ball. Defended well and created a lot of chances. The boys maintained it for 90 minutes. That's 12 goals in last four games against Premier League opposition, impressive.
"Today was a completely different challenge and the boys nailed it on Tuesday and tonight. We waned to get to 16 points before the break and that is the least they deserve.
"I have not seen it back. I didn't notice he was down until the goal went in. I hope he is OK but it looked like his shoulder not his head. The player's safety is most important.
"We had a few chances. You have scary moments at the other end, that is the nature of the Premier League and you have to see them out."
Asked what happens next? "I am not sure, I have not put any thoughts into my future. That will take care of itself, I am in control of my own future and how hard you work will stand you in good stead. I don't want to talk about myself after that performance from the lads."

Southampton
Southampton manager Nathan Jones, speaking to Sky Sports: "It would have been easy for me not to take the game but it was important for me to learn about my players. First half we were too passive and we allowed some world class players to do what they wanted. The goal before half-time really cost us.
"Second half we were much better, more aggressive and I'm really pleased with that. We forced the goalkeeper to make three really good saves. The result is probably fair but I'm pleased with the second half. We were the better after the break.
"I saw a young group that showed that they can handle it at somewhere like Anfield. There's a lot of things that I'm really, really pleased with and I learnt a lot today.
"Away at Anfield is a tough game to start with, there are not many tougher in world football and it was a good learning curve today.
"The break is vital and the timing of the appointment is really important. Now it gives me six weeks to really work with the group and make them physically and mentally stronger, and move the ball better. Plenty I was pleased with today but a lot we need to get better - and we will."

Just to recap the key team news at St James' Park, England striker Callum Wilson has dropped to the bench as Chris Wood makes a rare start for the home side.
Graham Potter makes five changes to the Chelsea side that lost against Arsenal. Raheem Sterling has suffered with migraines in the week and was not well enough to travel.

Southampton goalscorer Che Adams: "The gaffer said at half time we were too passive in our defence. That's something we have to work on but it's on to the next game now and we'll kick on from there.
"A new manager has come in with different ideas and we're all part of that so want to be better as a team. We had chances so need to be positive about that.
"They were easy goals to be honest. If you come to Anfield you have to be hard to play against but we have a break now so we're looking forward to that.
"We have a new manager so he will bring his new ideas in and we'll have time to gel. Everyone is willing to buy into it."

Graham Potter is just finding it a bit rough at the moment. I don’t fear him and his job at all because I think he’s a very good coach. What he did at Brighton was outstanding but I think he has a football club now which is bigger in stature.
Brighton’s team at the moment is probably better than how Chelsea are playing but in stature he’s got a lot on his shoulders. Chelsea fans expect, that’s the difference. Players have just got to listen to what he wants them to do and apply it to the best of their ability.

A small protest by supporters group 'NUFC fans against sportswashing' was held outside St James' Park prior to kick-off.
Organiser John Hird says he wants to highlight human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia. But some supporters walking by shout "take the sign down". Hird, who was joined by half a dozen fellow protestors, said they've had a lot of support on social media. "People telling me to take it down makes me more determined," Hird adds. "We admit we are a minority. It's not a protest against Newcastle fans."
Newcastle is 80% owned by the country's Public Investment Fund (PIF), and when the takeover went through 13 months ago, the Premier League said it had received "legally binding assurances" that the state would not control the club.
PIF regards its investment in Newcastle as an economic one rather than any attempt to 'sportswash', or cleanse Saudi Arabia's reputation on human rights.

Leeds striker Rodrigo speaking at full-time: "It’s very disappointing for us, when you have the chance to score three times in a stadium like this and against a top opponent, it’s hard to finish the game with nothing.
"That’s our reality and it’s not the first time it’s happened. We have to try to learn from this and work hard during the break for when we come back.
"We played against a top team with top players, who at any moment can make the difference and that’s what they did.
"We just have to rest and work hard now."

James Maddison is fine and will be fit for the World Cup, Brendan Rodgers has just confirmed.
"He’s fine. It was just precautionary, a little soreness on the side of the knee. He hasn't trained a lot this week. He’s OK," says Rodgers.

Liverpool
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott: "We've had mixed results - some good, some bad - but I feel like we've finished strongly up to this break.
"We need to keep up the momentum and hopefully the results will keep coming our way.
"Together we're a team and we're all close friends and look after each other. For me personally, I'm loving my football, playing for Liverpool alongside top players and learning off them every day.
"I just want to play with a smile on my face and thankfully we came off with a win today."

There's no doubt Chelsea have been on a difficult run recently, losing at Brighton and then to Arsenal at home on Sunday after a very poor display.
However, the Blues are a team missing multiple players - Reece James, N'Golo Kante and now Ben Chilwell - along with other fitness issues across the squad.
They are also a team that dominated AC Milan home and away in the Champions League only last month.
Newcastle, Eddie Howe and his players certainly deserve a tonne of credit for what they've achieved this season, and they have outperformed Chelsea so far.
But if Chelsea's first-choice XI arrives back from the World Cup intact, it will not be too long before we see the Blues return to the top four.

Newcastle are flying high, playing high-intensity football and we are loving it. We are clearly one of the best-performing teams in the league to date and fully deserve the plaudits coming our way. But can we maintain it?
Over the course of the season, I believe we can but will that be enough for Champions League football? I'm not so sure, although that would be an outstanding achievement.
Chelsea have had an indifferent start under Graham Potter, with some mixed results. History suggests they are a certainty for the top four but I don't think it's a given with question marks already surrounding Potter and his players after their poor performances.
Will Newcastle finish ahead of Chelsea? I believe so. However, I think both will just miss out on the Champions League, finishing fifth and sixth.

Final Score at Anfield
There were plenty of positives for players heading from Anfield straight to the World Cup.
Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez put in one of his best performances in a Liverpool shirt. Brazil’s Alisson made a wonder save to deny Che Adams from close range second half, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s delivery was excellent and Fabinho controlled the midfield.
Only Virgil Van Dijk arguably made an error, losing Che Adams for Southampton’s goal. But they’ll all be relieved to be off to Qatar injury free

Gareth Southgate says Conor Gallagher’s attitude and mentality has earned him a place in the England squad for Qatar.
After thriving at Crystal Palace last season, Gallagher broke into the England squad in the summer but found himself returning to the England Under-21s after going back to Chelsea.
The utility man remained in Southgate’s thoughts, however, and the England boss said he was really impressed with Gallagher’s response to that disappointment.
“We were really pleased with how he responded to being left out of our squad and going with the U21s,” said Southgate.
“He performed really well and his mentality was excellent. It is a great example of if you approach it that way, there is always a route back with us and he has managed to achieve that straight away.”
Southgate also praised Gallagher’s specific qualities, which he believes England will need at times during the World Cup.
“He’s fantastic at pressing the ball,” he said. “There are going to be moments in these games where we need certain attributes and we feel he could be that sort of player.
“He has an impact in games and has a goal threat.”

Liverpool
Liverpool midfielder James Milner to BBC: "Yeah it was important to get that win and keep a bit of momentum. It's nice to finish with a win. We could have performed better at times but the win is the most important thing.
"We could have controlled the game better in the second half but it helps when you have a goalkeeper as good as we do. I thought the boys defended well as well. We know we can improve but it was a solid win."
On reaching 600 appearances: "It's a big number isn't it? It's unbelievable. It's been a very long time. You see someone like Ben Doak come on the other night at a similar age and do well. Hopefully they can have a long career as I have.
"For our young guys it's an unbelievable place to be. You can learn so much. You won't go too far wrong watching these guys here and learning off them."
On the break: "Hopefully I'll play a bit of golf and a bit of rest - but not too long because when you get older your kneecaps go a bit! It's about getting that balance right."

Graham Potter says the "washing-machine schedule" of games has made it tough to find consistency as he reflects on his first two months at Chelsea.
Saturday's match at Newcastle will be their 13th fixture since Saturday, 1 October - and, after no win in four Premier League games, Potter admits it's been a challenge to find stability.
"It's not easy to pinpoint a simple solution," he said. "But we've been in the washing machine of games with the turnaround and we need to find some time to reflect.
"We have had some good performances but also lost Reece [James], who is a key player for us and we suffered in the first 20 minutes against Brighton and that's knocked us back a bit.
"Finding the balance of recovering from the Champions League to the Premier League while managing injuries, load and injury prevention. Rotation is ultimately the enemy of stability but it's been necessary in this period."
The Chelsea boss accepts, though, that his team need to improve and will be using Saturday's game, and the break that follows, to implement changes.
"I think we can do better, we can function better," he said. "That's where my focus is. It's always a process and we want to be on an upward curve."
