Miguel Almiron raises the volume with a run towards the box. He finds Sean Longstaff, who whips a cross towards Chris Wood but Thiago Silva is there to put the ball behind.

Chelsea swing a corner into the mixer but the huge Dan Burn is there to head clear. An absolute man mountain. The kind of fella who could play Jack Reacher.

It was a great counter attack from Chelsea, I thought it just missed Botman and Broja was going to head it in.

Bruno Guimaraes is more than capable of spanking in a shot from range. He goes for goal from distance but a deflection stops it threatening.

Chelsea break quickly after and Mason Mount is in possession wide left. His cross is towards Armando Broja but Sven Botman gets a crucial touch to stop the striker getting a header on goal.

With all due respect, I'm not sure Graham Potter is happy with where Chelsea are right now. "Seventh? That's ace for me! OK lads, you can stop trying now!"

Nika: Why is Broja strolling .. zero efforts ! GP has made them very relaxed cos he’s used to being in the mid table.

That Newcastle press causes panic again in the Blues defence. Kalidou Koulibaly has a man on him in rapid time after a goal-kick and pokes the ball out of play for a throw.

Pretty even on stats so far. A shot each. A handful of touches each in the opponents box. 51-49% possession in favour of Newcastle.

The players gather around the referee and the fallen Bruno Guimaraes. It is a cynical foul from Jorginho that takes down the Newcastle man to stop a counter. It deserves and gets a booking.

Mason Mount finds space again in the middle of the pitch and he gets Chelsea motoring. He finds Lewis Hall, who picks out Armando Broja for a shot on the turn that Nick Pope saves easily.

Quite a robust affair this so far, with Newcastle just starting to edge it. They've had more sustained possession in the opponent's half than Chelsea and are forcing the visitors into mistakes.

Eddie Howe looks the happier of the two managers on the sidelines as he cajoles his team to press.

Newcastle are the better side so far in this game. The atmosphere is fantastic and they're really behind this side who are full of confidence.

It takes some last-ditch interceptions and tackles from Chelsea to prevent the Magpies getting a shot away.

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper to BBC Match of the Day:

"We rode our luck with the penalty but I thought the best team won. They’ve not really created another chance in the game and we did – we should have scored one or two more with the positions we got in.

"But we are really pleased with our work today, we think we are worthy of it and it’s ended up being a really positive week. We got let down last week in the game here with some decisions but for the players to respond like they did against Spurs in the cup and to take it into today, it’s been a really positive week.

"It’s been a really, really tough couple of months, we’ve had to do something that no team or manager or coaching staff has had to do before with the amount of players that have come in. Never once have we questioned the players’ attitude or commitment or desire to learn, even when we’ve had some really tough moments. Every time we’ve had a tough moment, we’ve responded with a performance or result so that’s reassuring.

"We know we’ve got a lot of work to do – whatever happened today the league position wasn’t going to look great but at least we’re making positive steps, at least we’re picking up points.

"Days like today help belief grow and we’ve got to build on that. I haven’t looked at the table after the game but I know going into it we were only five points from 12th, and having seen some of the things that have gone against us and some of the things we could have done better with the fine margins, then our points and league position could be different."

On the various VAR calls in the game: "I’ve made a conscious effort this week to really focus on what it takes to win games in terms of our performance, it would have been easy just to talk about that (VAR) last week but I tried not to. I wanted to focus with the boys on the goals we conceded and how we should have scored more goals and won the game against Brentford comfortably. So I don’t want to go down that road today, I just want to focus on the small progress we’ve made this week."

Newcastle are trying to get the ball back very quickly and they're getting a little bit impatient. They're playing against very talented footballers in Chelsea and they know how to look after the ball. but Newcastle have just got to slow down a little bit and show a little bit of composure.

Joe Willock weaves past one challenge en route to the Chelsea box but is then tackled by Conor Gallagher to ensure a shot does not follow.
