    Southampton 0-0 Brighton

    Now Brighton are threatening.

Japan midfielder Kaoru Mitoma shows some fancy footwork to find space in the Saints box following a quick ball forward down the left, but his low shot is blocked well by home keeper Gavin Bazunu at his near post.

Newcastle have started brightly and have their early reward. It was a big swipe by Daniel Amartey and he can have no complaints about the decision to award a penalty.

Chris Wood smashes the ball past Danny Ward and the Magpies are up and running.

Wolves striker Diego Costa looks in typically bullish mood today. The 34-year-old former Chelsea striker is putting himself about in the final third and wants a penalty when he is bundled over in the box, but the assistant referee's flag is up for offside.

There was a minute's applause before today's game at Selhurst Park, to pay tribute to former Fulham and England defender George Cohen, who died last week. The Fulham players are also wearing tracksuits with 'Cohen 2' on the back.

And the visitors have had the better of the early stages, having a free-kick and corner cleared from inside the Palace box.

We all wondered if the break came at the wrong time for Leicester and it's already feeling that way. A panic at the back and they concede a corner.

    Southampton 0-0 Brighton

The sound of a brass band playing When The Saints Go Marching In welcomed the two teams out on St Mary's.

That certainly makes it feel like home for Southampton, but they've not had much comfort from results there this season.

But they're looking to start quickly today.

Saints winger Moussa Djenepo's cross is diverted out for a corner before Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez punches out James Ward-Prowse's corner under pressure.

    Cracking start from Saints.

It's was a terrible challenge from the Leicester centre-back Daniel Amartey, he has had wild swing at it.

Newcastle have come out full of confidence and Chris Wood has struck that penalty right down the middle.

Julen Lopetegui is aiming to be the first manager to win his first top-flight game in charge of Wolves since John Barnwell in November 1978.

None of the previous 10 managers to take charge of the West Midlands club have won their first such game (Drawn, three, lost seven).

Should he succeed of course it would represent a first away win this term for Wolves and while it would not get them out of the bottom three it would be extremely welcome with Manchester United going to Molineux on 31 December.

    Everton v Wolves (15:00 GMT)

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on Final Score

There's a split on Merseyside at the moment where some fans are saying Frank Lampard should be getting more out of his players. Others are saying "enough of the changes - we need to stick with the manager".

The big problem I see for Frank Lampard at the moment is what he does in January. How does he go out and buy players? There's value in three players: Pickford, Gordon and Iwobi.

Iwobi is arguably Everton's best player and he's out of contract in the summer, so you wouldn't want the unrest selling him would cause. Gordon is a local lad. However, he's only got potential. We don't know what he's going to do and where he's going to get to.

Does Lampard cash in and sell one of those players? They need goals.

Crystal Palace v Fulham (15:00 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

This is a tricky one because Fulham had a real go at pretty much everyone they played in the first part of the season, home or away.

They have probably over-achieved so far, while it feels like Crystal Palace have under-performed in many respects, certainly when I look through their squad.

I am going to back the Eagles this time, though. They are always decent at home and I think they will edge this.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

  18. Where are we again?published at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2022

    Southampton v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Sure most of us have forgotten how things stand in the Premier League following the six-week break.

Here's a reminder of where Southampton and Brighton are.

Saints, who replaced Ralph Hasenhuttl with Nathan Jones before the pause, have lost their past three Premier League games and are 19th in the table, two points adrift of safety.

Brighton were seventh in the table at the start of today, looking to return to winning ways after losing to Aston Villa in their final game before the break.

  19. Sutton's predictionpublished at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2022

    Southampton v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

Saints have got a pretty kind run of games coming up, with Fulham and Nottingham Forest next after Brighton, and they really need a 'new manager bounce' to pick up some wins from those fixtures.

I am not sure they will get one of them here, though. Brighton play with a bit of freedom under Roberto De Zerbi, and they always look like scoring goals.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-2

  20. 'This is a great game'published at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2022

Both teams wouldn't have wanted to go in to the World Cup - they'd have been desperate to continue their momentum.

Almiron is another player who wouldn't have wanted the World Cup. Will he just fall back in to the form he was in? Will it be a natural progression?

This is a great game. From Newcastle's point of view, Chris Wood changes the way they play. They have to get runners in around him. They're not as mobile up front today but they certainly have the midfielders to provide opportunities. You can see Newcastle's confidence is growing game by game.
