Stoke City have signed Dujon Sterling on loan from Chelsea

Meanwhile, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that Fulham will sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers.

The Championship club have rejected two bids in the space of 24 hours, the latest this afternoon.

Fulham have an interest in Dan James at Leeds and Carlos Vinicius of Benfica.

Simeon Hawkins: Forest have had no choice but to sign new players. Much of their squad were loan signings, at the end of their contracts or at the end of their careers. What was left was not a Premiership team. We just need a quality striker to back up Sam Surridge.

Kenneth Field: First appearances are deceptive! Forest have seen 25 players leave over the summer for one reason or another. So far they've bought/loaned 19 replacements, 2 of which have gone out on loan.

  3. 'Looks like Aubameyang is coming back to London'published at 17:15 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport reporter

I think Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is going to Chelsea, which would be very interesting. He can't play for three weeks because he had a break-in at his house and ended up with a broken jaw, so that's not great.

He left Arsenal [for Barcelona] under a pretty hefty cloud - Mikel Arteta effectively booted him out of the club because he wasn't adhering to strict squad policy in terms of turning up on time and things like that.

He went to Barcelona and has done quite well there but they have obviously got huge financial problems. Chelsea have stepped in and it looks like he is coming back to London.

Idrissa Gueye says it feels like coming home after re-joining Everton from Paris St-Germain.

He said: "There is no better feeling than coming back home, seeing some brothers here.

"I am very happy to be here, to help, to work hard and to give my soul for this team. I am in my home. I feel like home and I know everybody here. Seeing this team, following this team every week and how they play, I cannot feel in a better place than Everton so that is why I chose to come back here.

"There is a great atmosphere around the stadium and people around here are like a family. Even when I went to Paris I kept in contact with some players here and continued to support for the team.

"For me it is special and I said to the manager if I left PSG it will be for one team and that is Everton."

The Brazil international has signed a one-year deal.

“I’m happy to be here, I’m happy to be back in the Premier League," he said.

“Fulham is a special club, a club that wants to improve, that wants to fight for something bigger, so I’m here to help, and I cant wait to get started.”

Joe: Minutes after Nottingham Forest sign their latest player of the window, they sign another. They'll soon have more squad members than an NFL team.

Daft Penguin: If I were a Forest player I'd be very annoyed, to put it politely. Imagine you've worked your socks off to get your team in the Premier League and they go and sign 20 players in the window. What kind of message does that send the players from last year?

CMOnTheRocks: Are we sure Forest are actually buying all these players and it's not Steve Cooper's son accidently buying players as in-app Candy Crush purchases?

Glen: Just sat back, as a Wigan fan, laughing at other fans moaning that their club hasn’t spent £100m on players, threatening possible economic disaster on their club. We’ve had one free transfer and two loans in this summer. Financially wise? Yeah. Absolutely.

  9. PL spending more than Serie A, Bundesliga & Ligue 1 combinedpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

This [spending during the current transfer window] underlines the wealth within the Premier League and also the power of the Premier League. It is where everyone wants to come and play their football.

The figures are truly eyewatering. The latest figures I saw is that the Premier League clubs have spent 2.14bn euros, with a net spend of 1.28bn euros. That is more than Italy's Serie A, the German Bundesliga and the French Ligue 1 combined. It is staggering.

Every year we say the bubble will burst and there is no sign of that bubble bursting.

  10. Gueye return 'smart move'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Ian Kennedy
    Reporter, BBC Radio Merseyside Sport

Bringing Idrissa Gana Gueye back to Goodison Park is a smart move by Everton. Yes he’s into his 30’s now but it doesn’t seem to matter these days. His style of midfield play is something Everton have needed – he can put his foot in, he can press, break things up, and get things moving. That was the hallmark of his time at the club between 2016-19. Fans were sorry to see him go and he’ll certainly be welcomed back.

And that’s another good thing about this move. He knows the place, he knows the fans. He understands the club, and his settling-in period should be very short as a result.

Everton have re-signed midfielder Idrissa Gueye from Paris St-Germain for a nominal fee.

The Toffees had been in advanced talks over bringing the 32-year-old back to Goodison Park since the start of last month.

PSG signed the Senegal international from Everton for about £30m in 2019. He went on to score seven goals in 111 games for PSG, winning both Ligue 1 and the French Cup twice and helping them reach the 2020 Champions League final.

Nottingham Forest are doing what Fulham did a few years ago. They are buying too many players. It will be the most expensive relegation in Premier League history.

    Alan

Forest must be owned by an energy company how much they are spending. One of two things will happen . They will end up in the top 6 or be relegated and end up like Derby. The latter is far more likely to happen. I think the man with the cheque book needs a reality check. Don't throw good money after bad my old lad.

  16. 'You work out what could happen'published at 16:39 British Summer Time 1 September 2022

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

From a personal point of view, I've done this for years and I try to speak to managers, chief executives or people high up at the clubs.

It's like a scattergun approach first thing in the morning - sometimes you strike lucky, sometimes they're up against it and, quite rightly, haven't got the time to take a call.

You're just trying to weed out what you think is true. You're able to work out what could happen once you know a player is going to go.

For instance, Jan Bednarek earlier on today was looking like he was going to go to West Ham United. Southampton would bring in a replacement if that was the case.

It's like a little triangle - that would have allowed Craig Dawson to leave West Ham. However, the latest we're hearing is that Bednarek is actually going to go to Aston Villa.

So all of a sudden, Craig Dawson is thinking, 'I'm going to be moving back up north - that might now not be happening.' That little manoeuvre then doesn't come off.

Dan James is another player who clubs are trying to sign. There has been interest from Tottenham but they would only make a move if they could get Bryan Gil out to Spain. Valencia have been linked - again, unlikely to happen.

Fulham are probably in the box seat for James, but Leeds probably wouldn't sell if they can't bring the striker they're bringing in - Bamba Dieng from Marseille.

Fulham have confirmed the signing of defender Layvin Kurzawa on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 29-year-old left-back has made 153 appearances for the French champions since arriving from Monaco in 2015 but is yet to feature in Ligue 1 this term.

"I feel very, very happy to be here. It's a family here, everyone is very cool," he told the club website.

"I've watched every Fulham game this season, and I can't wait to play with this team."

Man United are two players away from challenging for the title in my opinion. Bring in an elite central midfielder and full-back as a priority next window please.

    Shubz, London

Man United needed a complete revamp to change the atmosphere around the club. They've only done half a job, we need another midfielder, right back and centre forward. Antony is exciting but is not going to score 20 goals. Tielemans is one of many players Man United could have signed at around the £40m mark (I know he's worth £25m but United always overpay!), but instead we spent all summer chasing players with no PL experience for double that.
