After the Champions League anthem, we have a minute of silence in respect of Queen Elizabeth II. Barring a few lone shouts, it is impeccably observed.

Having finished second in the Premeira Liga last season, Sporting Lisbon have made an inconsistent start to this campaign. There are signs, though, that they are starting to find more consistent positive form.

Having lost key players in Nuno Mendes, Matheus Nunes and Joao Palhinha (they spent around 45m Euros in the summer to replace them and others), Sporting began their domestic league campaign with a draw, a win and two defeats.

Since then, they've won back-to-back matches - at Estoril and at home on Saturday against Portimonense, who they beat 4-0.

They currently sit seventh in the Portuguese top-flight.

Richarlison or Dejan Kulusevski seems to have been the big selection question for Tottenham all season. Kulusevski started the season so well, you thought Richarlison would really have to wait to get his opportunity in the Tottenham starting XI, but Antonio Conte has given him the opportunity and he has grabbed it with both hands.

Tottenham opened their Group D campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Marseille, while Sporting won 3-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Sporting coach Ruben Amorim added: "Tottenham are the clear favourites in the group. They are a team that have one of the best attacks in the world with a winning coach in Italy and England and world-class players.

"They are strong in transitions, have a lot of quality on set-pieces. We will have to be wary because they will punish us for the slightest mistake."

Spurs boss Antonio Conte, speaking to BT Sport: "Richarlison played very well against Marseille and against Fulham. It was right to pick him in the starting 11. He deserved to start.

"It is always important to get a good result, especially in this competition. You don't have many games to get points. For this reason, every game is important.

"To play against a Portuguese team is always difficult. The atmosphere in this stadium is not easy. There will be a lot of noise. We need to manage the situation well to get a good result."

Antonio Conte has assembled a squad that can be competitive on all fronts, according to former Tottenham centre-back Jonathan Woodgate.

Summer signing Richarlison bagged his first two goals in north London to see off stubborn resistance from 10-man Marseille in their opening Champions League game.

Woodgate saw his intervention as a sign Spurs are a force to be reckoned with this season.

"You do have to grind out results sometimes, and Conte is the perfect man to make that happen," Woodgate told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"He's got his players doing it and the Richarlison signing has been brilliant.

"You need back-up to do well and they have never had it before. Now they have got a squad to compete."

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has revealed he has been to Buckingham Palace to pay his respects following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

"On Friday I went to Buckingham Palace because I think for sure we will remember this for the rest of our lives," he said.

"I want to give condolences from me, from the club, from the players to the Royal Family.

"Then football has to go ahead and we will do it, but I think the Premier League made an important decision to stop football and show respect for the death of the Queen."
