  1. Three games off before Queen's funeralpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

In case you've not seen, three Premier League matches have been postponed this weekend before the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Chelsea's home game with Liverpool and Leeds United's trip to Manchester United have been called off.

Brighton against Crystal Palace had already been called off because of rail strikes and remains postponed.

The other league matches between 16 and 18 September will take place after football paused last weekend as a mark of respect following the Queen's death.

The Queen's funeral will be held on Monday 19 September.

  2. Edwards the one to watchpublished at 17:07 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

English winger Marcus Edwards never quite made the grade at Tottenham, but as he showed last week against Eintracht Frankfurt, he is strutting his stuff in Portugal.

The 23-year-old started his career at Spurs but left in 2019 after making just one senior appearance to join Vitoria de Guimaraes and then shifting to Sporting this summer.

Three goals in seven games for his new club in all competitions shows he has the capacity to hurt his former side tonight. I think we can all take it for granted he is going to have the bit between his teeth.

  4. Conte "relaxed" over team selectionpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

Sporting Lisbon v Tottenham (17:45 BST)

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte said before this game that he was "relaxed" about the team he will pick to face Sporting Lisbon.

The match follows a rare weekend off because of matches being postponed in the Premier League following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

And Conte said having almost a full squad to pick from means he can change his plans.

"Not having played on Saturday changes the situation," he said.

Lucas Moura was Tottenham's only injury doubt for the match, which follows the postponement of their Premier League trip to Manchester City.

"When you play every three days, you run the risk of having more injuries and less energy," added Italian Conte.

"I'm more relaxed when it comes to choosing my starting 11. The postponement of the game against City has allowed me to change the idea of the team I had in mind for tomorrow's game."

  5. Team news - Davies replaces Lengletpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

Sporting Lisbon v Tottenham (17:45 BST)

Sporting Lisbon make one change from the side that began their last Champions League match - a 3-0 away win over Eintracht Frankfurt last week.

Nuno Santos comes in for defender Jeremiah St. Juste.

A number of their players will be familiar to Premier League fans as defender Sebastian Coates played for Liverpool and Sunderland, midfielder Trincao had a spell at Wolves and forward Rochinha played for Bolton.

Defender Pedro Porro signed for Manchester City for £11m in 2019 but never played a senior game for them, while midfielder Pedro Goncalves had an unsuccessful season with Wolves.

English winger Marcus Edwards will be out to prove a point today. He was at Tottenham's Academy from the age of eight but only made one senior appearance for them - as a substitute in a League Cup game against Gillingham in September 2016.

Tottenham began their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Marseille and Antonio Conte makes one change from the side that began that match last Wednesday as Ben Davies replaces Clement Lenglet.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Davies, Dier, Romero, Perisic, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Royal, Son, Richarlison, Kane.

Subs: Forster, Lenglet, Doherty, Sanchez, Spence, Tanganga, Skipp, Gil, Sessegnon, Bissouma, White, Kulusevski.

  6. 'Ajax belong in the Champions League'published at 16:50 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Liverpool v Ajax (20:00 BST)

Ajax have won all seven games in all competitions this season, with an aggregate score of 25-3.

Not bad for a side that has to rebuild (yet again) after having their manager and some of their best players pinched in the summer, mainly by Manchester United.

"Ajax are in the Champions League and they belong there. Are they the strongest team in the competition? I haven't seen the rest yet," said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

"We have to show a reaction but that doesn't guarantee a result against Ajax. They've won all their games this season, they've had a massive rebuild but they're doing a really good job.

"We have not been consistent enough this season and we have to show that again. And that always starts with defending better."

  7. Early team newspublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Liverpool v Ajax (20:00 BST)

That Liverpool reinvention process will begin without regular left-back Andrew Robertson, who is expected to be out until October, after the international break.

Midfielders Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all sidelined too tonight.

Ajax's only injury absentee is Netherlands left-back Owen Wijndal, who is out with an ankle problem.

  8. 'Time to reinvent ourselves'published at 16:41 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

That defeat for the Reds exposed some serious cracks in this Liverpool side - ones that have been there since the start of the campaign and have been widening since. They were sloppy in possession, pulled apart all too easily at the back and lacked the effective high-pressing on which so much of their success under Jurgen Klopp has been built.

It left the German to claim afterwards that his side needed to reinvent themselves. This is the first chance they have had to do so since.

  9. A win and a losspublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

There were contrasting fortunes for this pair of English clubs on matchday one of the group stage of this season's Champions League.

In keeping with what has been a very decent start to the season in general, Spurs got off to a solid start in Europe with a 2-0 home win over French side Marseille.

Richarlison was the hero as his first goals for his new club gave them victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Liverpool had a night to forget in Naples as Napoli thrashed them, netting three first-half goals in a 4-1 win. It could easily have been more too.

  10. Back in actionpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

The official period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II continues in the UK (and across the world), with the scheduling of sporting events still being affected.

However, after having opted not to play domestic fixtures at the weekend, Premier League clubs are now returning to action in Europe, starting tonight with Tottenham and Liverpool.

Spurs are up first, facing Sporting Lisbon in Portugal at 17:45 BST, before the Liverpool host Ajax at 20:00, and we'll have live text commentary of both games and more.
