"It's a bit of a pity - I know him personally," said Jaissle of Tuchel. "But we had to be professionals. We haven't seen any games of the new manager with Chelsea, but we know about their individual quality.

"We have analysed their character and the new manager with ideas from (his) old club. We are very well prepared.

"It was incredible, just the drive here, to go through London, to come here to here to the stadium, to soak up the atmosphere, it's something incredible - it's a dream come true for me."

  7. Haaland 'an incredible player' - Gundoganpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

Man City v Borussia Dortmund (20:00 BST)

Ilkay Gundogan says Manchester City signed an "incredible" player and character in Erling Haaland.

When asked how well City's number nine has settled in, City midfielder Gundogan replied: "The numbers speak for themselves. He is doing great on the pitch, but also, his character, attitude and determination off the pitch is incredible.

"For such a young boy, he is very mature and his future is very bright. He is going to show us a lot more, not just this season but also for the next few years. I think the club signed an incredible player and also an incredible person."

Gundogan was also asked if Haaland can be the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to City winning the Champions League.

He said: "We hope for it. Obviously, having a proper number nine now - a proper striker, you know, physically strong and determined - is going to help us a lot, but we will see.

"The Champions League is something incredible to achieve. It’s a very tough competition and sometimes little details can decide the outcome. We are going to try again this year to go as far as possible and to play a good role in this competition."

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think our game is very different to America. Our game is too tribal in order to have those kinds of games. We have so many rivalries that are very intense, with supporters and players alike.

I don't think it’s a very good idea, I don’t think it would work and I don’t think the fans would buy into it either.

  12. Boehly's 'north v south' match idea mocked by Klopppublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

Chelsea v RB Salzburg (20:00 BST)

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly's recent idea of a US style 'All-Star game' in the Premier League has left Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp unimpressed.

Boehly, part-owner of baseball team the LA Dodgers, and basketball sides the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Sparks, suggested a north v south game.

At a conference in New York, the American said: "Why don't we do a tournament with the bottom four sports teams, why isn't there an All-Star game?

"People are talking about more money for the pyramid, in the MLB All-Star game this year we made $200m (£173m) from a Monday and a Tuesday. So we're thinking we could do a north versus south All-Star game for the Premier League, for whatever the pyramid needed, quite easily."

But Klopp was very sceptical when asked about the idea after Liverpool's 2-1 win over Ajax last night and said: "When he finds a date for that he can call me. In American sports these players have four-month breaks.

"Maybe he can explain that. I'm not sure people want to see that - [Manchester] United players, Liverpool players, Everton players all together. North-east too, so Newcastle. It is not the national team. All the London guys together, Arsenal, Tottenham, great. Did he really say it?"

  13. Potter's first taste of Champions League actionpublished at 19:32 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

Chelsea v RB Salzburg (20:00 BST)

Chelsea's new boss Graham Potter will be managing in Europe's elite competition for the first time, having previously taken Ostersund from the fourth tier in Sweden to the Europa League.

"It's a good time for me to get into the dugout," said Potter. "My experiences in the Champions League are just at supporter level.

"But obviously I've experienced the Europa League with Ostersund, winning at Galatasaray and getting through the group stage.

"Wherever we would start it would be a heck of an introduction, wherever we start it's going to be brilliant, so why not start here?"

  15. Haaland's Champions League records...published at 19:26 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    HaalandImage source, .

Last week Erling Haaland became the first player to score multiple times on his Champions League debut for three different clubs - a hat-trick for Salzburg against Genk, two goals for Dortmund against PSG and a double for City at Sevilla.

That took him to 25 Champions League goals in just 20 games - smashing the old record of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Roberto Soldado, who scored 16 in their first 20 games.

He is the youngest player to score 25 goals, beating the record of Kylian Mbappe, who in turn took the landmark off Lionel Messi.

In fact he has already broken the record for most goals in his first 25 Champions League games - even if he does not net in the next five.

Haaland also has the record for fewest Champions League games needed to score 10, 15 and 20 goals.

  16. 'Potter has done an absolutely phenomenal job at Brighton'published at 19:24 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

Chelsea v RB Salzburg (20:00 BST)

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton believes young English managers "will be willing Graham Potter to do well" at Stamford Bridge.

The 47-year-old takes charge of the Blues for the first time this evening against FC Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League and Sutton says it's testament to his ability that he's reached such a role.

"I always felt he was a manager who deserved the opportunity to manage up," Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live. "He's done an absolutely phenomenal job at Brighton and I like how he talks.

"It's a different ball game now though. He's talked about having a long-term plan but what are the expectations at Chelsea?

"If you go on a bad run at a big club, it's normally the manager who carries the can.

"It will be one to watch but other managers will will him to do well. They don't always get opportunities at big clubs."
