  1. Home sweet home again?published at 17:18 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Shakhtar Donetsk v Celtic (17:45)

This is the fifth meeting between Shakhtar and Celtic, the previous four also coming in the Champions League group stage and all resulting in a home victory.

However, the Ukrainians have managed only five wins in their latest 19 home European matches, losing six and drawing eight.

Celtic haven't faired much better on the road - losing five of their seven European away games last season and winning the other two.

They conceded 17 goals in those matches, at least two in each game, and they scored 14.

Indeed, a 3-0 win over Anderlecht in 2017-18 is Celtic's only victory in their last 12 away games in the Champions League proper, losing nine.

  3. Shakhtar 'playing for displaced fans'published at 17:12 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Shakhtar Donetsk v Celtic (17:45)

It'll be an emotional night for many Ukrainians in Warsaw, with Shakhtar having to play their home matches in neighbouring Poland as a result of Russia's invasion of their part of their homeland.

Head coach Igor Jovicevic said his team will perform "for the people out there".

"We need the spectators to share their energy and drive with us so we can fight during this game from the very first to the very last minute," the 48-year-old said.

Despite their fine 4-1 win away to RB Leipzig last week, Jovicevic suggests Celtic are favourites to win tonight.

"We are going to be playing for our fans, all those people who are out there," he added. "Indeed, all those people coming to the stadium have their own personal difficulties, but we are playing for them and with them."

  4. No period of reflection in Polandpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

There will be no period of reflection ahead of Celtic's Champions League tie with Shakhtar Donetsk in Poland.

The position was confirmed by Uefa following a routine pre-match meeting between the clubs and the governing body.

The Ukrainian hosts, playing on neutral soil, have been granted permission to display anti-war messages on screens at Legia Warsaw's stadium before kick-off.

It all feels very low key in the Polish capital.

With the home team for this one being a Ukrainian side, there is little buzz around this huge city before a big Champions League game.

Instead, I've seen the odd Shakhtar Donetsk fan in the city centre, while hundreds of Celtic supporters congregate in the old town.

Outside the Municipal Stadium in Warsaw, stalls selling Ukraine flags and scarves sit on street corners as a heavy flow of traffic streams towards the ground on the banks of Vistula River.

Despite the game taking place in a different country, expect a full house here, apart from the 2,000 or so Celtic fans, to be backing the Ukrainians.

This is a big game for all sorts of reasons, but Celtic will be eager to kickstart their Champions League campaign here tonight.

  8. Shakhtar back to side that beat Leipzigpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

    Shakhtar Donetsk v Celtic (17:45)

Shakhtar head coach Igor Jovicevic made four changes for Saturday's 2-1 win at home to Chornomorets and reverts to the same XI that started last week's fine win 4-1 win away to RB Leipzig.

That means a return to the side for Lucas Taylor, the right-back on loan from PAOK, defender Valeriy Bondar, winger Mykhaylo Mudryk and midfielder Heorhiy Sudakov.

Defender Serhiy Kryvtsov and midfielders Bohdan Mykhaylichenko, Ivan Petryak and Neven Durasek, the Croat signed this summer from Dinamo Zagreb, drop to the bench.

    Shakhtar Donetsk v Celtic (17:45)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has handed Sead Haksabanovic his first start following the winger's summer move from Rubin Kazan.

In the only other change from last week's defeat by Real Madrid, Japan striker Kyogo Furuhashi returns to the starting line-up after his injury against Rangers.

Dropping out the attack are Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada.

Let's get straight to the team news from Warsaw, Poland, where Shakhtar are having to play their games because of the war in their native Ukraine...

  11. Contrasting emotions in defeatpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

Both Glasgow sides go into tonight's games on the back of fairly heavy opening Champions League defeats - but from which they emerged with vastly contrasting emotions.

Rangers were left reeling from a second successive 4-0 battering - their loss to Ajax in Amsterdam closely following a dismal display in the first Old Firm derby in the Scottish Premiership.

Following that win over their city rivals, Celtic also took heart from the way they played in the first half against Real Madrid despite eventually losing 3-0 at home to the reigning European champions.

How will they both react tonight after missing out on a chance to get back to winning ways in the Premiership at the weekend?

  12. Old Firm return to Champions League actionpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 14 September 2022

Football is back for Scottish clubs after the weekend's domestic postponements as a mark of respect following the Queen's death.

For Rangers, their Champions League Group A game at home to Napoli was also delayed 24 hours until later this evening due to concerns over police resources related to the Queen lying at rest in Edinburgh.

But first, in one of the early kick-offs, Celtic face Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw in Group F.

Stay with us for the build-up, live commentary and post-match reaction from both games.
