Chance for Scotland - and it's a big one.

Che Adams collects the ball in the left-hand channel and drops his shoulder to open up space for a shot, but fires meekly at the keeper.

Much more encouraging from the hosts.

Celtic fans will know all about Mykhaylo Mudryk after the winger scored for Shakhtar Donetsk in last week's Champions League draw.

What a player the 21-year-old looks. He's lightning quick.

Ukraine think they've got us for pace at the back. Dovbyk doesn't look quick at first glance, but when he gets his legs going he really is. And Mudryk, as we've seen, is absolutely rapid.

Looks like a four at the back for Scotland, with Scott McTominay in midfield.

John McGinn appears to be playing the number 10 role behind Che Adams, with Ryan Christie and Stuart Armstrong playing wide.

    Quote Message

The first 15 minutes will tell me a lot about this performance. Ukraine made half a dozen strong challenges early on the last time out, with almsot zero reply from the Scotland players. That set the tone or the match and we didn't recover

The biggest thing is making sure Scotland leave no gaps between the lines. The likes of Mudryk and Yarmolenko will cause all kinds of chaos if we leave spaces for them to exploit.

The players are out on the pitch and the national anthems are under way.

    Scotland v Ukraine (19:45)

Scotland manager Steve Clarke hopes his side can rediscover the form and attributes that took them to the Euro finals and World Cup play-offs.

"We had a disappointment here in the summer but we're looking to put that right," Clarke tells Premier Sports.

"We want to get back to to what we were good at before, to being a good team, an energetic team, that gets the fans excited.

"Both teams are slightly different to how they were in the summer, but I'm sure it will be a good match."

  14. Why the Nations League matterspublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Scotland v Ukraine (19:45)

Okay, we all know the Nations League will never be the most glamorous or exciting of tournaments.

The latest batch of games halting the early-season momentum of domestic football does it no favours either.

But, simply put, it's nothing to turn your nose up at - especially for Scots. Don't forget Scotland's return to a major tournament - Euro 2020 - after more than two decades in the wilderness came by topping their Nations League group to earn a play-off place.

Doing likewise in the current section will guarantee a play-off berth for Euro 2024 and promote them to Nations League A to mix it with the big boys.

And second place in the group may even be enough for a play-off spot, too, if higher-ranked countries in League B qualify via the traditional route.

  15. Old stager Gordon still going strongpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Nick McPheat
    BBC Scotland at Hampden

Watching Scotland's goalkeepers and substitutes warm up and it's just clicked - the combined age of Billy Gilmour (21) and Aaron Hickey (20) comes to 41 years.

Craig Gordon, starting in the home goal, is 40 in December.

The Hearts keeper won't thank me for bringing it up, but he's still playing at a ridiculously high level despite his age.

The future certainly looks bright too, with 20-year-old Nathan Patterson starting at right wing-back.

We've had some incrieble times under Steve Clarke and some brilliant moments in ths stadium, so I'm hoping we can replicate that this evening. I hope the players put in a performance that not only they can be proud of but that everyone in this stadium can be proud of too

  17. Ukraine 'playing for the people back home'published at 19:30 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Scotland v Ukraine (19:45)

Ukraine came within 90 minutes of World Cup qualification, but have responded well to that painful play-off defeat to Wales by embarking on an unbeaten Nations League campaign to date.

A 1-0 win away to Republic of Ireland set them on their way and Armenia were dispatched 3-0 at 'home' - Russia's invasion means Ukraine continue to play in Poland - before a point was collected in Dublin.

It leaves Oleksandr Petrakov's side top of Nations League Group B1, with Scotland aiming to usurp them tonight.

The war back home is never far from the Ukraine players' thoughts, with Andriy Yarmolenko saying: "We are going to play for our country, our people, for anyone who is staying in Ukraine.

"We want to distract the Ukrainian people from war, from all this terror and incredibly hard situation.

"We want to put smiles, at least for 90 minutes, on the faces of the Ukrainian people back home."

  18. Armstrong motivated by World Cup hurtpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Scotland v Ukraine (19:45)

The Tartan Army aren't the only ones still not over Scotland's World Cup play-off loss to Ukraine.

Midfielder Stuart Armstrong admits the "hurt" lingers and will provide extra motivation for tonight's tussle.

"There's definitely a level of hurt there from last time," said Armstrong. "We knew what was at stake during that game.

"Obviously we're disappointed following that so I think there will be a memory of that feeling going into this game.

"We know they're a difficult opponent, we found that out last time. But equally, we know our own capabilities and the results we've had in the past show we're also a very good team."
