Thorgan Hazard, the younger brother of Eden, tries to play it through but there's too much on it and the chance comes to nothing for Dortmund.

Erling Haaland didn't appear to have an injury so Pep Guardiola may have just decided to rest him for Leicester away in the early kick-off on Saturday, while Cancelo was one of two City players - along with Julian Alvarez - on a yellow card.

You don't lose it. Lionel Messi is putting on a clinic with Paris St-Germain racing towards the last 16.

Messi has scored two sublime goals with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar - the other members of Eminem - netting in-between as PSG lead 4-1 against Maccabi Haifa.

Benfica will also progress from Group H if they beat Juventus and they're also cruising with a 3-1 lead.

In Group F, the already-qualified Real Madrid have reduced the deficit to 2-1 at RB Leipzig, who will progress if they win and Shakhtar Donetsk lose.

Both sides of the deal are in Leipzig's favour as Celtic are still leading 1-0 as they aim to salvage a spot in the Europa League.

It's been a really competitive first half. The battle of the night has been Cancelo and Adeyemi against each other. Adeyemi has been the out ball and the threat for Dortmund.

Anything good has come down the right hand side for Dortmund and the left hand side for Man City. It's been entertaining. I would like to see Man City have more of an attacking edge.

Ake could have tested the goalkeeper with that header. It's something they haven't done in the first half but I'm sure that will change in the second half.

Pep will make the changes necessary to get the best out of his attacking players in the second half.

  7. 'Credit to players for turnaround'published at 20:55 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

FT: Red Bull Salzburg 1-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

When recently-appointed Chelsea manager Graham Potter saw his new troops draw at home to Red Bull Salzburg in his debut match, the Blues had just one point from their opening two Champions League games.

But two victories over AC Milan, plus tonight's win, have put their Champions League campaign back on track.

"I wish I could say I've found the Champions League to be easy," Potter, who had never even seen a Champions League game before taking charge of Chelsea, joked.

"Credit to the players, they have been fantastic. The first Salzburg game was getting to know the players, the two Milan games were important in showing our quality and tonight was a massive win."

Next up? Potter returns to his former club Brighton this weekend.

"It's another tough game, I know the team very well, I know the quality and I look forward to going back there."

  8. Potter pleased with 'fantastic performance'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

FT: Red Bull Salzburg 1-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Graham Potter, speaking to BT Sport after his side won to reach the Champions League last 16: "I'm delighted, it was a fantastic performance from the players. They showed a lot of courage with the atmosphere and the pressure Salzburg put you under.

"We created chances and it could have been more than one at half-time. But one mistake, or one action, and you're punished at this level. But it was a great goal from Kai and we deserved to win.

"Overall I thought we played well and created chances, scored two good goals and responded well to a set-back. I'm delighted for the players.

"I thought our structure of playing wide was quite good, it got Raheem [Sterling] and Christian [Pulisic] into good areas and them defending wide allowed Conor [Gallagher] and Mateo [Kovacic] to get in.

"It was not easy because they defended well, but it was a brilliant performance."

On the quality of the two Chelsea goals from Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz: "It makes my job a lot easier when they can do that. I'm pleased for the both of them."

A sight of the goal for Manchester City. Phil Foden swings in a lovely free-kick close to the left touchline. It swings out and is met by Nathan Ake but the defender can't keep his powerful header down with it just over the top.

    And that's the half.

No doubt that Cancelo is providing a threat but the balls into the box just haven't been good enough.

Man City are giving away too many opportunities.

Another chance for Borussia Dortmund. Karim Adeyemi, this time in a more central position, plays it through to Youssoufa Moukoko and he takes a touch to try to get ahead of Ruben Dias, but the City defender does well as Moukoko can only shoot with limited power and it is easily dealt with by Stefan Ortega.

Good news for Chelsea from the other Group E game - AC Milan are ahead.

After the Blues won in Salzburg, they will be assured of finishing as group winners if Dinamo Zagreb cannot beat the Italian side.

Milan defender Matteo Gabbia has headed the visitors into a 35th-minute lead.

City season ticket holder here. I'd have Grealish on the pitch over Mahrez every day of the week. Jack creates problems for other teams which lead to openings. He might not get the "assist" but he'll be involved in the build up. Mahrez is too predictable, generally cutting back and going sideways.

Moukoko tries to pass it into the net, all he has to do is open his foot, get a good connection and slide it into the net. But it goes wide. Huge opportunity for Dortmund and they should be in the lead.

That should be the first goal. Borussia Dortmund get round the back of the City defence and again it is down their right wing. Karim Adeyemi sweeps in a low cross and it falls perfectly for Youssoufa Moukoko, in a central position with only Stefan Ortega to beat.

But it's a woeful finish, lacking conviction, and he can only steer it well wide. The sort of chance Erling Haaland down the other end would have snapped up.

O Cube: Man City had better go after Ancelotti. This team is even worse this season in the UCL.

A reminder that City qualified for the last 16 with two games to spare.

Untidy from Alvarez. He takes a heavy touch and lunges in. It's a needless one to give away. You don't want to get yourself booked out of frustration that you've taken a poor touch. He does need to offer something going forward for City.

Ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan floats in the free-kick, looking for Ruben Dias, but it's more impressive defending from Mats Hummels as he gets his head to the delivery and clears.
