Austria-born Mateo Kovacic, speaking to BT Sport, on scoring in Salzburg: "It's nice to score where I was born. My parents were here and my friends.

"We knew they would come out strongly in the second half but we reacted very well. It's important we go through and now we concentrate on the next game.

"I don't score many but this goal was a nice one. I always say it's important the team wins and less important who scores."

Could Haaland be the difference for Man City for them to go and win the Champions League for the first time? I think he can.

Jude Bellingham is much loved here at Dortmund and this is an opportunity for him to show how good he is against a top side like Man City.

    • Manchester City have won 14 of their last 16 Champions League matches against German teams (drew one, lost one) but did lose their last away game there 2-1 against RB Leipzig. City have won 16 games against German opponents in the competition, six more than against any other nation.

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City (20:00 BST)

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis, Nielsen Gracenote: "Manchester City are already certain of their place in the Champions League knockout phase but are not certain of winning Group G and being seeded in the last-16 draw.

After dropping points in Copenhagen, City's chance of finishing top of the group is down to 92% according to Gracenote's Euro Club Index., external

Tonight's opponents Borussia Dortmund are the only team that can stop City winning the group but they will need to win tonight's encounter to have a chance of topping Group G."

  9. 'Erling Haaland is a huge player for Man City already'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City (20:00 BST)

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

Erling Haaland is still young, he's such a physical specimen that he is going to pick up niggles. His development in terms of physicality happened when he was really young. We can see on the pitch what he does, his goal return is absolutely incredible.

Man City and Pep Guardiola have a job to make sure that he is able to train to the levels required and be available for the games. He is such a huge player for Man City already that he has to play. If you give him opportunities, he will score goals, no doubt about it.

  10. Will Haaland hurt his former side again?published at 19:51 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

Manchester City took on Borussia Dortmund at Etihad Stadium on matchday two and the German side took the lead through England midfielder Jude Bellingham before City scored twice in the last 10 minutes, through John Stones and Erling Haaland to win 2-1.

The Norway striker scored 86 times in 89 games for Dortmund between 2020 and 2022 before moving to City in the summer in a £51m move and has netted 22 times in only 15 appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola's side.

Defender Manuel Akanji, who followed Haaland from Dortmund to City in the summer, said: “I’m happy he’s in the same team as I am and he’s scoring the goals for our team.

“It’s so important what he brings to us - he finishes the attacks that we create as a team."

  12. 'Chelsea should have real belief going forward'published at 19:47 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

FT: Red Bull Salzburg 1-2 Chelsea

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea should have made the game a lot easier for themselves than they did. The squad will have a real belief after this performance with Graham Potter as manager moving forward.

  13. Sevilla beat 10-man Copenhagenpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

    FT: Sevilla 3-0 Copenhagen

Sevilla win in the other early kick-off. Youssef En-Nesyri had put them ahead against Copenhagen with a glancing header in the first half and ex-Real Madrid winger Isco doubled Sevilla's lead, curling in a lovely strike from the edge of the penalty area.

That goal came in the 88th minutes and the hosts grab another one in the second minute of stoppage time with Gonzalo Montiel converting a rebound after ex-Tottenham man Erik Lamela had an effort parried.

Copenhagen's game ended badly with David Khocholava sent off for a horrible challenge that saw him rake his studs on Isco's calf.

It means Sevilla stay in contention for a last-16 spot, but need Manchester City to beat Borussia Dortmund later on.

The German side are two points ahead of Sevilla and have a better head-to-head record so only need to draw against Pep Guardiola's team to advance into the last 16.

Copenhagen, who hit the post through Viktor Claesson and crossbar through Kevin Diks, remain without a goal in the group stages and will not be playing European football in the early part of 2023.

  14. 'Pleasing result for Potter'published at 19:43 British Summer Time 25 October 2022

FT: Red Bull Salzburg 1-2 Chelsea

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The game was won by two moments of absolute brilliance from these Chelsea players. The first half, they showed what they were capable of and they looked bright and exciting in the final third. In the second half, they had to grind this out and stand up to severe pressure from Salzburg in the last 15 minutes. They did it, they made some good blocks, they did it as a team. Graham Potter will be really pleased with this result tonight.

Earns him a yellow card and perhaps wastes a few more vital seconds.
