Right then, after an action-packed couple of days, that's it for this weekend's WSL action.

    Until next time, goodbye!

  2. 'Delighted for Beth'published at 20:59 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea general manager Paul Green speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "We were well worth the victory, well worthy winners.

"Tough place to come, tricky conditions on the back of Thursday night in Paris, getting home in the early hours of Friday. One day to prepare for this game so overall we're really delighted we got the victory. We struggled here in the past, and we had to be patient tonight but we kept going and we got the opening through Beth and sealed it through Pernille.

"Beth coming into the team, as well as a few others, have really acquitted themselves well and showed the strength and depth that we've got in our squad which is going to be important because it's going to be a long season and we want to compete challenge for all the trophies we're in. Delighted for Beth to get off the mark and Pernille to seal it for us."

On bringing on Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder: "They're two fantastic players - two of the world's best players and yeah we've got that luxury tonight to be able to bring them and they've helped us get over the line when they needed to. Overall very pleased."

  3. 'I want to show what I'm good at'published at 20:59 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Player of the match, Chelsea's Johanna Rytting Kaneryd speaking to Sky Sports: "I felt good, I wanted to show I have a lot of energy and what I’m good at. It was hard with the pitch, I tried to drive the ball sometimes but it just got stuck! I think I did a good job.

"I’ve never been at a club where we’ve got such a big squad with so many good players."

  4. 'We just needed the win'published at 20:57 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Bethany England speaking on 5 Live Sports Extra: I really thought it was Niamh's goal but we just needed the win. We didn't test the keeper enough in the first half.

On Brighton and weather conditions: We have come here before and they have made it difficult. It is really difficult but both teams had to play on it. They played really well.

On other teams: Of course we keep an eye on them but business are usual. We look at what we need to do within the game. The pressure is on but as long as we don't mess up, we will be okay. Fight on until the end.

On her game time: I want to be playing and game time is important. I am not old but I am 28. I am supposed to be coming into the peaks of my career. I need to keep pushing and see where I can get the minutes. One way or another, I hope I'm going to get them.

  5. 'Was it my goal? I thought it was Niamh's'published at 20:54 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea striker Beth England, speaking on Sky Sports: "We didn't think the game was going to go ahead with how waterlogged the pitch had been, you saw in the game that it held up a bit. We know this is a tough ground to come to against our bogey team. We're just chuffed to get the two goals and the clean sheet."

On the goal: "I think it's Niamh's, I'm pretty sure I saw the ball go over the line before I put it in. Is it mine? I'm buzzing but Niamh deserves that, I've been training so hard with her. I'm happy but bless Niamh. Either way we got the goal but sorry, Niamh."

So, it's another win at the end of a very good week for Chelsea, that's four in four for them in the WSL.

That they were able to bring on Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder to help seal the win shows the quality they have at their disposal.

Brighton did extremely well to keep it at 0-0 for so long but Chelsea always find a way. It was such an open game. They have goal scorers everywhere. That makes them unpredictable.

Brighton need to be more consistent though.

Chelsea made seven changes to the line up and still get results, it just shows the squad depth they have.

Nice to see Bethany England on the scoresheet. I think she needed that confidence and game time.

It is a big win for Chelsea in the end. We know if you lose points in this league, it will have an impact on the final result. They needed the win and did well even in the weather conditions.

    FT: Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

The final whistle blows and it is four wins on the spin for Chelsea. They have put that defeat to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season firmly behind them and join leaders Arsenal and Manchester United on 12 points.

Brighton fought so hard for so long, Hope Powell will be delighted by that but, ultimately, Chelsea's pressure told. Beth England forced in the first before Pernille Harder smashed home the clincher late.

    Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

The heavens have opened again in Crawley, it really is hammering down. Thankfully, we've avoided the worst of it during the match itself.

Anyway, Chelsea nearly add a third with Erin Cuthbert's shot on the turn but Megan Walsh is down to save again. The Brighton keeper has been excellent in a losing cause tonight.

    Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

It might be harsh but it very nearly was 3-0. Guro Reiten gets in down the left channel and heads for goal, she stabs the ball past Megan Walsh and Brighton are glad to see it come back off a defender and into the goalkeeper's arms.

    Five minutes added on.

    Brighton 0-2 Chelsea

That goal has taken the wind out of Brighton's sails and it is Chelsea threatening a third.

They win a corner that is hung up to the back stick but loops behind off a Chelsea head. I have to say that 3-0 would be very harsh on Brighton.

The power and precision of Pernille Harder. Utter brilliance.

Once again, striking forward and looking like she had all the time in the world. She picked her spot and fired it in the net.

That should do it for Chelsea!

Brighton lose possession and Chelsea break quickly, Sam Kerr is able to turn and feed Pernille Harder.

The substitute drives forward before rifling the ball high past Megan Walsh from a tight angle - there was some real power in that strike. Brilliant finish to seal it for Chelsea.

Sloppy from Sam Kerr, her wayward cross is cut out and it's Brighton turns to break.

They go down the left with intent but Millie Bright is there to avert the danger for Chelsea.

Can Brighton fashion one more big chance to snatch a point?

For all that Brighton are giving their all to find an equaliser. It is leaving them exposed on the counter and it seems a matter of time before Chelsea punish them.

Sam Kerr has come close a couple of times and the latest break is ended by some more last ditch defending.

While it stays 1-0, though, Brighton will believe.
