  1. 'Chelsea need to take Brighton seriously'published at 18:34 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    Brighton v Chelsea (18:45 BST)

Chelsea general manager Paul Green is cautious about underestimating Brighton after the Seagulls' previous performances against the Blues.

They have won one, drawn two and lost four of the games they've played with Chelsea.

“We know that Brighton over the last few years have been a very difficult opponent for us and we take them very seriously,” Green said.

“When they perform to their best levels, they can be stubborn and make it difficult for teams and they do have a little bit of quality in their squad.

“We need to keep the winning run going but we have respect for Brighton, we know what a tricky opponent they can be and how well set up they are defensively. Over the last two or three years, they have been a stubborn opponent for us so we go there knowing that we need to find a way of unlocking them defensively.”

  2. Brighton need to show 'passion and desire'published at 18:32 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    Brighton v Chelsea (18:45 BST)

Brighton boss Hope Powell wants her side to show the "passion and desire" which they did in the second half of last weekend's 4-0 loss to Manchester United.

They conceded three in the first half but improved after the break to only let in one more.

“We recognise the ability of Chelsea, the depth and the quality that they have,” Powell said. “I think we just have to take care of ourselves, we know it is going to be tough but we just have to be prepared for that fight.

“I’m hoping that we carry forward that passion and desire that we showed in the second half against Manchester United last weekend.”

There was thunder, lightning and heavy rain over Crawley at around 4.30pm, and an initial pitch inspection took place at around 5pm.

Ground staff tended to one corner of the turf and players and staff popped out to take a look. Brighton captain Victoria Williams was among those to spend a few minutes in one of the dugouts surveying the scene.

The game was declared on at around 5.45pm - good news for the record number of fans expected to attend a women's game at the People's Pension Stadium.

    Brighton v Chelsea (18:45 BST)

It was touch and go for a while but - despite something of a deluge over Crawley - the final game of this Women's Super League weekend will go ahead.

Chelsea are still without manager Emma Hayes as she recovers from surgery, but they do have the chance to go top of the table - albeit that would require a six-goal win to overhaul Arsenal and Manchester United on goals scored.

As for Brighton, they've won just one of their opening three games and will be looking to bounce back after a 4-0 hammering against United last weekend.
