  1. Arsenal extend winning streakpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    FT: Liverpool 0-2 Arsenal

Chelsea need a win tonight to go level on points with leaders Arsenal and Manchester United.

Arsenal played Liverpool in the lunchtime kick-off and first-half goals from Lia Walti and Frida Maanum were enough for them to secure a record-equalling 12 WSL wins in a row.

  2. 'Walsh has been on it'published at 19:43 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    HT: Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Former England midfielder Kelly Smith speaking on Sky Sports: Chelsea should have been shooting more from distance, when they get the ball out wide, it's sticking (because of the rain), especially just outside the box.

"If the opportunity arises - like for Bethany England - have a go, test Megan Walsh. Although she's been on it today."

Chelsea have dropped five points from their last three games against Brighton, including a goalless draw here in February when they had 26 shots.

While the visiting substitutes warm up in one corner and two ground staff members with pitchforks receive a round of applause from the crowd, Albion will be forming a plan to earn at least another point tonight - even if it means absorbing a flurry of attempts on goal again.

Lauren James has probably been the most likely for Chelsea. She has looked sharp from the first whistle and is popping p all along that front line to really cause Brighton problems.

She had a shout for a penalty late in the half. There wasn't much in that but there definitely was a few minutes earlier when Victoria Williams brought down Jessie Fleming after mis-controlling the ball in her own box.

Chelsea will be frustrated. They have tried to different avenues to get a goal but it hasn't happened. Some tame shots but nothing out of it. Brighton will be pleased with the performance though.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 23 October 2022

    HT: Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

That's it for the first half. There was time for one last attempt from Chelsea after some decent footwork from Jessie Fleming. The shot was dragged wide, although the Chelsea players think it was deflected - the referee disagrees.

Brighton have not made it easy for the champions but the defence was just starting to creak as the half went on. Still goalless at the break, though.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

We're into two minutes added time as Lauren James surges into the Brighton box.

She goes to ground under challenge from Kayleigh Green. Was there anything in that? Doesn't look like it and there isn't much of an appeal.

Green lets James know exactly what she thought about the forward's fall.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 44 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Beth England has not really been in this game but she so nearly gives Chelsea the lead just before half-time.

The striker receives the ball 30 yards out, pushes forward and works a bit of space before unleashing a fierce shot that Megan Walsh does superbly to tip over the bar.

    The corner comes to nothing.

Corner for Chelsea and Niamh Charles again rises highest to meet it. It's pretty much a free header but it's straight at Megan Walsh. A yard or two either side and that's 1-0.

Katie Robinson tries to go it alone after collecting a loose pass deep in Brighton's half.

She drives down the right wing but her solo charge is ended as she tries to beat Jess Carter for pace. That rarely works and it certainly doesn't on this occasion.

I think Brighton are improved since their match against Manchester United. I think it was a disappointing one by their standards.

I think they would have worked on the defaults from this game. I feel like Brighton play differently every time they play against Chelsea. They always have this fire whenever they play them.

The home side can be happy with a couple of minutes with very little happening after that little flurry from Chelsea.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

We've just seen a replay of a challenge from Victoria Williams on Jessie Fleming a couple of minutes ago. There was a brief shout for a penalty from Chelsea and, I have to say, it looks like they had a point.

Fleming nipped in ahead of Williams, who stretched and got none of the ball but plenty of the player. That's a bit of luck for Brighton.

The best move of the match from Chelsea. They work the ball down the right and Lauren James gets the ball in a dangerous area after a one-two.

She then tees up Jessie Fleming for a shot but it is skewed horribly wide. That was a good chance.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Chance! A Chelsea free-kick from wide on the right is floated into the box. It clears the Brighton defenders and Niamh Charles is there to meet it.

The left-foot connection is solid but Megan Walsh is able to get down and push it away.

Hearts in mouths moment for Brighton as Kayleigh Green plays the ball back to Megan Walsh and it just starts to hold up on the heavy surface as Lauren James gives chase.

The goalkeeper just wins the race to the ball, though. Relief for the the home fans - and Green!

It's all become a bit scrappy. The sides are taking it in turns to pass across their back lines and then give up possession pretty quickly as soon as they try to advance any further.

Not a lot of action at either end at the moment. The game has been played almost exclusively in the middle third for the last few minutes.

Brighton look like they are trying to press the Chelsea back line as much as possible.

If they do keep that pressure up, they could win the ball high up the pitch and create an opportunity.

The game has settled into something of a pattern now with Chelsea dominating possession and waiting patiently for gaps in the Brighton defence to appear.

Meanwhile, the hosts seem content to sit back and hit Chelsea on the counter. Much as you'd expect, really.
