At half-time, City knew they needed to get the ball into wide areas and get Bunny Shaw more centrally.

They did that for the goal. It was a great delivery and they scored because Shaw was in the area. The centre-halves were so worried about Shaw that leave space, which leaves space for players like Coombsy.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

    Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

Spurs will probably go into the break wondering how they are not ahead in this match but equally very fortunate not to be behind after Dagny Brynjarsdottir's woeful penalty.

  5. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

Oh my, what a miss that is. Dagny Brynjarsdottir steps up to the spot for the Hammers but then just drags her effort a foot or so wide of the left corner.

    Huge let off for Spurs.

City have made a lot of changes this season with the players they’ve lost – whoever you bring in, it’s going to be difficult to replace players who have been there for a long period of time.

Keira Walsh has been there since she was what, nine or 10 years old. Lucy Bronze, if you take out the stint she had at Lyon, she had been there for a long time as well, there’s a lot of players there that were important, Georgia Stanway as well, who had come through as a kid.

Even if you bring in top-quality players, it will take time for them to adjust to the WSL as a league especially if you’re from a different country. Everything is new to you, not just on the pitch but your lifestyle. It’s no surprise they are where they are – but they will have demands and ambitions to be higher than that.

The gap between United and the top three has definitely closed. There were times in the game when United had all of the momentum and should have taken advantage of that.

When you don't against a team like Manchester City, they can come back. United have positives to take and probably pushed more in the first half to win the game.

Still all Spurs but no real end product at the minute.

Rehanne Skinner's side have had seven efforts on goal but just one of those has been on target as the half-time whistle approaches.

  11. 'Chelsea & Arsenal lot happier than City & United'published at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

I think it’s probably a fair result from today’s game – both teams have had opportunities, both goalkeepers have made a couple of decent saves.

I don’t think either team necessarily deserved the full three points – Manchester United probably dominated the first half a bit more but then Manchester City came into their own a lot more in the second half.

It’s a fair result but one that will probably keep Chelsea and Arsenal a lot happier than Manchester City or Manchester United.

Chelsea remain top of the league going into their game later on today and it gives them the opportunity that if they win – which they should do, going on form – to break away a little bit from that chasing pack.

For Manchester City, it was probably worse for them than for the other three teams because they are still a little bit away from that pack but they’ve still got a lot of games against the top three so they’ve got opportunities to bring that back.

But today, at home, in front of such a big crowd at the Etihad Stadium in the Manchester City, they would have been definitely going for the three points.

They'll both be happy with a point - probably less so City, who really needed to win today.

Khadija Shaw had a couple of chances at the end and was unlucky not to score. It was a very, very entertaining game.

Spurs winger Celin Bizet has got the beating of Hammers full-back Kirsty Smith. She zips down the wing and then floats an inviting cross into the six-yard box but there's nobody there to head home.

Just prior to that attack, West Ham defender Grace Fisk picked up a yellow for a crunching challenge on Eveliina Summanen.

In case you've been out and about and you've missed the Manchester derby, here are the two goals that we saw.

They were goals from two players who are very much unsung heroes for their sides, but they have delivered in the game that means most to their supporters.

It was a great game and a great spectacle for the women's game.

Both teams had their chances. The momentum continuously shifted. Either team could have nicked a winner but both teams will be satisfied with a point.

This is how the top of the Women's Super League table looks after that draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester United could end Sunday five points behind Chelsea, and two behind Arsenal.

Manchester City are still three points behind United, and could be nine off top spot at the end of the evening. Their title hopes are all-but gone now. They, instead, will be focusing on finishing in the top three and Champions League place.

    What. A. Chance.

A Spurs corner is whipped in from the left and the ball drops to Celin Bizet three yards, smack bang in the middle of the goal, but she just can't sort her feet out to prod it in and the Hammers smuggle the ball away.

I think that's probably a fair result but wow, I really thought we would have a winner there.

After a poor first half from City I think they will be disappointed not to have gone on and won that.

A point is probably no good to either of these sides come May.

But what a game that turned out to be.

  20. Postpublished at 14:27 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

The second half was absolutely frenetic. There were chances at both ends of the pitch, and I think in the end, both sides can't really argue with a point apiece.

It means City maintain their unbeaten record against Manchester United in the Women's Super League. They have won three and drawn three of the six meetings.
