GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Readingpublished at 16 mins

    Fran Kirby

Reading are caught out by a quick Erin Cuthbert free-kick on the edge of their penalty area.

She plays the ball into Sweden winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, who looks a good yard offside, and when the ball is played across the six-yard box Fran Kirby is there to tap in.

Simple finish from the England international.

Really good defending there from Deanna Cooper. The Reading centre-back just gets a little snick on the ball to take it away from Beth England, who looked like she was ready to burst through on goal.

I actually watched Chelsea against Leicester. There were plenty of goals there, they were just ruthless and I know they played midweek in the Champions League.

Emma Hayes was certainly not happy with their performance [in their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid] and they'll be looking to turn that around.

Will that go down as a chance? Millie Bright gets up and directs a header wide from the corner. She just couldn't quite arch her neck enough to get that on target.

    Chelsea 0-0 Reading

Here comes Chelsea and Fran Kirby again but she is held up and Reading's Faye Bryson clears for a corner.

Just signs Chelsea are starting to take control, particularly down the left, where Fran Kirby is showing up well.

That's not great from Jacqueline Burns.

The Reading keeper comes but doesn't claim a high cross and Justine Vanhaevermaet clears on her own line.

[Reading need to] work really hard off the ball, be organised and, when they do go forward and get those opportunities, they've got to take them. You can see straight away it's all about 'can we get at Chelsea from the off?'

    Chelsea 0-0 Reading

Have Reading got a case for an early penalty? Emma Harries goes down under a challenge from Chelsea's Erin Cuthbert just inside the home penalty area but the referee isn't interested in that one.

    Chelsea 0-0 Reading

Really positive start from Reading, who get down the right and twice work the ball into the Chelsea penalty area.

Justine Vanhaevermaet just can't quite get on the end of the second cross, though.

Reading are currently without a win in 10 games on their travels in the WSL, taking just two points across those matches.

As you can probably imagine, the goals against column is well into double figures.

The Royals have also failed to win any of their last seven away matches against London clubs in the WSL.

    Not exactly a great omen.

  14. Chelsea selection all on 'merit'published at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

    Chelsea v Reading (18:45)

More from Sky Sports pundit Fern Wheeler: "Chelsea still have Lauren James on the bench and Sam Kerr. These names are on the bench ready to come on - it just shows the strength and depth in their squad.

"She [Emma Hayes] did go on to say that it is on merit. They've been training well and earned their places, so Beth England, coming into the side, will be looking to get on the the scoresheet and prove her worth to the side."

  15. 'We've been playing really well'published at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

    Chelsea v Reading (18:45 GMT)

    Reading Football Club

Reading manager Kelly Chambers, speaking to Sky Sports: "The girls were outstanding last week but we've been hit with flu and I've only just started to get a few players back from that now. You can see we've got a full bench tonight and the likes of Emma Mitchell, Rachel Rowe and Tash Dowie coming back into the fold.

"The girls who did well last week deserve to step up again and play. We know what we're going to face and we need to be strong. Chelsea have made quite a few changes today but they've still got quality all over the pitch and it's just about making sure we maintain our performances. We've been playing really well in the last couple of weeks.

"We've looked at Chelsea and where their threats are. We just need to make sure we perform, are hard to beat and are defensively strong. We can go and threaten them as well."

Chelsea have lost just one of their 12 WSL meetings with Reading (won nine, drawn two), and have won the corresponding fixture 5-0 in both of the last two seasons.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes speaking on Sky Sports: "We have a large squad and everyone has been training at a top level and if you do that it makes it easier for changes to happen. It is up to players to make the impression on game day as well as training.

"We know how tricky derby games can be. We will have to be at our best."

  18. Team news - six changes for Chelseapublished at 18:36 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

    Chelsea v Reading (18:45 GMT)

Chelsea (24) had made the most total starting changes in this season’s WSL before this weekend, and the hosts add another six to that tally this evening.

Jess Carter, Kadeisha Buchanan, Jessie Fleming, Guro Reiten, Sam Kerr and Lauren James drop out of the starting XI from their 1-1 draw at Real Madrid in the Champions League on Thursday.

Niamh Charles, Jelena Cankovic, Fran Kirby, Eve Perisset, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Beth England are their replacements as the reigning champions bid to move three points clear at the top of the table.

Chelsea XI: Berger, Bright, Ingle, Eriksson, England, Kirby, Perisset, Kaneryd, Charles, Cuthbert, Cankovic.

Subs: Musovic, Nouwen, Carter, Buchanan, James, Fleming, Reiten, Kerr, Abdullina.

Reading were only one behind Chelsea as the side to have made the most amendments to their starting XIs between games in the top flight before the team sheets arrived.

The Royals make no changes from the players who began the 1-0 win at home to Tottenham that moved them seven points clear of the bottom of the table last Sunday, though.

Youth team product Emma Harries was bursting with pride to captain her club for the first time a week ago, and the 20-year-old forward has the armband again as the visitors aim to end a 10-game winless away run.

Reading XI: Burns, Bryson, Evans, Cooper, Eikeland, Primmer, Troelsgaard Nielsen, Vanhaevermaet, Woodham, Wade, Harries.

Subs: Moloney, Wellings, Hendrix, Caldwell, Jane, Poulter, Mukandi, Dowie, Rowe.

  20. 'It's fun to play at Arsenal'published at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

    FT: Aston Villa 1-4 Arsenal

More from Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti, speaking to Sky Sports about the dressing room atmosphere: "It's good because we have got lots of players back now. I feel like we were a bit of a small squad in the last couple of weeks.

"We managed it pretty well and kept winning the games but it's good to have everyone together. Everyone has a smile on their face and it's just fun to play football at Arsenal at the moment."
